ATWT: April discussion

Well, I don't know about everyone, but whenever I call the hotline, I'll speak about how they give Meg/Paul/Dusty/etc. too much airtime, which writers I find weakest, don't use the vets enough, how there's not enough family interaction, and how stories go by at warp speed, etc. Yeah, I always mention what I did or didn't like about Nuke on that particular day, but that's not all I say.

Luke and Damian feeling their way to a relationship, has been good. I liked how Damian tried to talk about Luke having sex with Noah and Luke felt awkward discussing it, haha. I hope Luke and Noah still move in together.

I'm happy that Jade finally went looking for Luke (I knew she would want to) when she found out he was kidnapped. I like that Jade and Allison have apparently become friends (fits my "wanting to belong" description of Jade). I also understood why she was all insecure and lashed out at Casey and Allison after Hunter spilled the drink on her.

I'm glad Jade is acting like I would expect her to. The writers are being consistent with the real Jade! She needs scenes with Luke though.

I like Hunter so far.

The Intruder moving to the Internet is like soaps dying and needing to switch mediums. The story could almost be about Guiding Light, not the declining newspaper industry. Even the talk about branding is relevant to that. Lucinda's scenes with Emily thus had a lot of resonance for me.

I was a bit thrown off by Carly giving a toast to Craig, "fool", one day this week, after she got home from the police station. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that meant she had gotten away with something and was behind the gun-smuggling and the murder, but I know that's not what the show meant. It was just so haughty the way she said it, though.

Dusty is still the most annoying and hypocritical character on the show.

Glad people in general are liking the show more these days, not just me!

I thought their scenes were funny too. I'd wish we'd get more of them. But I have a feeling we won't.

I do too!!

Their scenes were nicely done. It was great seeing Lucinda and Emily add it again.

The character should have stayed dead. I hate Dusty.

How heavenly to hear this. I'd rather watch Paul and Meg!

In other news, I watched a few scenes this week and I too enjoyed seeing Emily against Lucinda.

In boring news, the trio of Casey etc, bored me to tears. None of those actors showed any charisma or personality at all. It's a shame too because I know Billy M could do better.

    • I can't speak for Sonni, but I thought Annie came off as neurotic from very early on. That's just how Cynthia Watros plays her parts, and the writing went along. I don't think Claire was mentally ill - they claimed she had a brain tumor, didn't they? I am never sure just why they made the effort given that she was leaving anyway.
    • @DeeVee Claire is a perfect example. So many women came to Springfield as competent, smart, and talented professionals. Then they’d attract a so-called “good guy,” get dumped, and spiral into complete chaos. What always strikes me is how clearly it plays like a male fantasy—yet it was written and sold to a female audience.  I'm not a content expert, but I don't think cis gendered women fantasize about losing control of their mental faculties in response to an orgasm.
    • I just watched some parts of an episode of GL where Roger has just been shot by Holly. Rita then admits to Hillary that Roger raped her. Kasdorf is such a fantastic actress. I wish there were more of her work available.
    • -- Alex Alegria has almost a full sleeve tattoo on one arm and a large tatt on one pec. I see no indication that the show is covering up his ink,
    • Didn't Carrie2 even seduce a minor? Ick. Oh, yeah, and she even tried to seduce Alan, but this was his post-prison era when he was trying to prove to everyone he had changed. It's funny that of all people he didn't go for it. Wait. Josh had an affair with Vanessa? Or she just thought he did? I know people always say "it's just a soap" but the way mental illness is portrayed on soaps (and that goes for pretty much all of them) has always been not great, especially PPD. They practically turned Claire into The Joker. She also was trying to seduce men. (I notice that now Mary Ryan Munisteri is listed as co HW with Ryder in the 1986 episodes, Claire has calmed down a lot. Never thought her GL career was very good but seems like she tried to course correct that a bit).
    • sss Ms. Tunie is a goddess. I feel all the anger, pride, sadness, arrogance, dignity, fear, love, and other emotions in everything she does as Anita.
    • You're right. People like me who stuck with her, did so because of her history. The show just skated her along with no story,  no goal, no aim. Right again! This is who I forgot before. When you describe her, it makes me appreciate her more. Thinking back I loved Mandy.
    • Maybe Guza is becoming Y&R Head writer and Jilly will be named EP! Remember CBS installed Latham as consultant and later Mal Young, both of whom took over the show. Of course, they each got credit during the consulting days.
    • Don't forget Carrie, who as Carrie2 was screwing everything in pants, and PPD Reva, who to either get back at Josh for his supposed affair with Vanessa (or just to prove she's more desirable than Van) tries to screw half the male population.
