So, I was a Fame junkie in the 80s. I'll even cop to loving the first High School Musical. And teacher movies do it for me too...Goodbye, Mr. Chips...Dead Poets Society, Up The Down Staircase...oodles of 'em.

What a wonderful show. I enjoyed it thoroughly....humor...withering depiction of adolescent cruelty...and some great toe-tapping singing and dancing.

AHEM *Victoria* native (raised here, born in Canada).

I was just gonna post about this so here's my original post but I mention him in the last paragraph

This was just a preview--the series starts in late Sep (odd I know)

I liked it a lot. I think it's the kinda show people will love, or hate (it's so stylized, etc). Ryan Murphy is the (uber gay) creator/head writer and I have mixed feelings about him--Popular was a nice satire on the typical teen drama and I loved it in the end, I loved Nip/Tuck at first (he was hired by F/X to make a "more outrageous" show similar to Six Feet Under and it was at first) but I lost interest the past few years--they just throw too much into it at the sacrifice of characterization or any cohesive plot. And his adaptation fo Running with Scissors was, I thought, awful but...

But yeah this was good and in many ways a return to Popular but with musical theatre thrown in--and I love that they cast so many real Broadway talents like Matt Morrison and umm the girl from Spring Awakening--instead of hollywood actors who could kinda sing.

Very strangely the jock character is played a by a guy I went to school with her ein Victoria, BC--he was a grade under me and always really nice but shy and a bit chubby--he was in the chorus of a musical I was in but never really hung out with any of the theatre people and I think he went to private school the following year. I didn't even know he persued acting (his bio says he was a cabbie in Victoria when he wa 19-20) but apparantly he was first discovered in Van by Don DeCoteau the homoerotic direct to DVD horror movie director (he's in all three Brotherhood movies, Beastly Boyz, etc). Anyway I hope this is a hit for him.

Isn't Victoria still Canada? LOL

Wow. Any out-of-school stories you can tell? :)

I really enjoyed this show. A lot. Enough that I was humming Journey and Amy Winehouse this morning. I did not know that the show creator was gay.

That is my one concern about this show. "Glee" clubs still are seen as pretty gay. And with two gay characters on the show (the male singer and, I am assuming, the "Cheerios" coach)...I am worried that this show might NOT hit the mainstream because people will be put off by how gay it is.

Does that make sense?

I didn't care about any of that. I just felt it was an hour of feel-good TV.

Hwo could you NOT knwo Ryan Murphy is gay? Look at th eshows he does--Glee is just overflowing with a queer sensibility ;) The gay sensibility might turn people off like you said but... We'll see--if it does then it's their fault. Nip/Tuck has been a hit despite that (but I guess all the breasts and other shocking elements keep anyone scared by that watching)

Victoria is on Vancouver Island, but Vancouver is on the mainland. It's confusing :P We're more a tourist city but peopel do grow up here (I went to junior high--not the school Cory went to--with Nelly Furtado who was a [!@#$%^&*] and I have a lot of stories about). Cory like I said was only there one year or so, was kind aquiet, chubby, and nice and was in the chorus of a musical I was in. I don't have any gossip sadly (apparantly in a recent interview he said he hated high school so ther ya go :P )

Glee did okay in the ratings. It wasn't the "boffo" I'd hoped for...but I didn't know about the fact that there were TWO huge competitors on at the same time.

Glee needs to be promoted like heck all summer, and they need to make rebroadcasts of that preview widely available...online...and at strategic moments during the Fox summer lineup.

I really enjoyed it too mainly because they sang songs I know. LOL Their version of "Don't Stop Believin" was awesome!

I liked Lea Michele/Rachel's voice and you could tell from her acting and signing that she's definitely from broadway - the way she projects everything.

I thought Cory Monteith/Finn's voice was kinda weak.

I love Ryan Murphy's TV work so I'm glad to see him back writing a show set in high school.

It was OK, I wasn't blown away by it. The singing was nice, but the members of the Glee club itself were so cliche and stereotypical in the pilot, which I guess was the intention anyway. I also have a feeling they're going to have some trouble balancing the comedy and more serious stuff too. I love abstract humour, but a lot of it fell flat to me in the pilot.

And is it me, or are Mr. Schuester's wife and that red head germaphobe teacher that has a crush on him essentially the same personality? The only difference is one is a germaphobe that encourages Schuester to flow his passions and the other is a compulsive shopper that wants him to find a better paying job. They're both really quirky and animated. They should've made them a little more different and unique in characterization, since it's obvious both of these women are going to play a big part in Mr. Schuester's life.

    • That was the original point of me sending you her 6 airdates, so now with those, and the link to the daily episode guide I've provided, that should help you more easily find the additional Ruth Buzzi scenes. I will always repeat myself when it comes to defending my data that I've taken decades to research and compile. But, as you pointed out in a recent post, I am kind, so at least I will do it with you in a kind way as opposed to the usual social media way most people do with just getting rude/nasty. That's not my style, as you correctly pointed out earlier this week, and never will be.  So, all is well!

    • Ambyr Michelle continues to be *that girl.* She’s just a star, period. Elevates every scene she’s in on the sheer strength of her emotional realism and charisma. Can sell any dialogue. I wish the show veered away from the B&B-style scripting. TMG/Leslie’s tirade stood out, I suppose, but she’s getting a bit mustache-twirly. And I wish DD had more to do in that episode than stand and sob.
    • Well, that was down to CBS being weak and not being willing to just pulling the plug entirely. They didn't want to commit to cancelling the show in case they needed it for their schedule basically; plus they kept showing that they were willing to make cuts if needed to be.
    • I'm sorry but clearly what I've said is not satisfactory to you. I have now read what you have to say, twice. As it happens, my interest at this point is looking at other mislabeled files to find this other Ruth Buzzi content. I do not see any point to each of us repeating ourselves, so I will leave it here.
    • It seemed to be your intent. coming into a thread I started and making multiple posts saying my data was wrong. In the next paragraph you say "Of course, I was suspicious from the very first instance where what I saw & heard did not agree with what it should have.  I'm very glad to know why." That certainly didn't stop you from immediately saying the data was wrong, until I provided additional receipts. Why did you not check the daily episode guide (for instance, this one for the 1980's) I posted for the world to see for exactly this reason...to help confirm airdates: http://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/days-daily-summaries-1980-1989-t15361.html? That is what you should be checking BEFORE you make any posts in the future like this, trying to suggest something from my data is incorrect. You could have also messaged me and asked me why your dates weren't adding up with what the correct data is. I would have fast forwarded through that video you posted, spotted Roman and Hope and immediately have told you that was the 11/1/83 episode.
    • Jason, just let me say that it was not my intent to any way impugn any of your data  or research. I'm very sorry if it came out that way. Obviously the person I got these 4 November episodes from has mislabeled files, multiples, which I was certainly unaware of.  When I am editing it is all about what I see & hear. Later, I find time for greater reflection.  Of course, I was suspicious from the very first instance where what I saw & heard did not agree with what it should have.  I'm very glad to know why.  If you find you are no longer interested in the edit, that is fine. I have no ego in this. I did it only to share it.
    • I feel like Vernon and Anita need to not be hypocrites and try and take the heat off Bill in this case. It's clear that the family used him as a fixer and especially knowing he helped with Martin's situation, they need to either be quiet or support him. BTW...with Vanessa being in the hospital for food poisoning, am I the only one who thought Shanice was gonna say she's pregnant or had an STD? The only reason I say STD is because she hasn't had any memorable sex partners, but I definitely don't believe she just had food poisoning.
    • Yeah, I mean I know that the name still pertains. I just laugh at it not now being called Arizona Dust, but, I admit it simply does not have the same ring to it. Above, that is interesting that Arizona had already come up before the crisis.
    • Anita vs. Leslie, bring it!
    • Leslie and her family are from Chicago? Anita's background also includes being a former Chi-Town native? Might they connect this and go somewhere with it?
