Members EricMontreal22
I loved Zack (and hated him) and think Thorsten is someone any show should want on their team but I agree that Zach is played out. Soap operas don't seem too good anymore at knowing when to send a character off canvas (and whent o not for that matter--I know maybe this is just my recent perspective and has always been true but it seems lately we end up with the played out characters and the ones with potential left ar ekilled off. AMC has a number of characters like that especially male...)
Members Kylie
I have wanted Zerica since the day Zach came to Pine Valley. The heat and fireworks those two would have generated, good god. To late for that now, though. I've never "got" Zach Slater. I've never seen him as charming, or sexy, or anything special. He's just another character in a sea of characters. He's not, nor will he ever be the kind of character David was (and still could be if Pratt wrote him right), at least IMO. Members Olygal1215
Guess I will be a dissenting opinion here, losing TK would be a big loss to the show and I would miss him terribly. Whether Zendall stay together or not I think Zach Slater is a very important character on this show. So many of the men on AMC (and soaps) are just these "beefcake" types who just play to the stereotypical soap hunk cliche. But TK is an actor who adds balance to all the shirtless men and such. I enjoy watching any scenes he is in because he brings real, relatable and human emotion that IMO is lacking from AMC. Not to mention he makes a good rival for Ryan, and every soap needs a good rivalry. Loosing TK be a big loss, and if AMC lets him go it would tell me that they care more about beefcakes and money than they do about good storytelling with great actors. And if TK left, that wouldn't leave much hope for me in being interested in any other story. My many years of loyal AMC viewing may just need to take a break. So I hope ABC does everything they can to keep him.
Members DaytimeFan
Where as I think that if AMC was interested in telling good stories they never would have had Zach Slater on the show in the first place! The character does not 'click' with the AMC that Agnes Nixon created and existed on ABC up until 2002 (Before Frons)... But then, it's NOT AMC's fault. Zach Slater is courtesy of Brian Frons who gave Thorsten, Kelly Monaco and Michael Easton big money holding deals and transplanted each of them from PC onto the rest of the ABC Daytime lineup. Frons then insisted that each actor go frontburner right away and stay there...with what I think have been disastrous results. I'm not saying Thorsten Kaye is a bad actor, far from it, I think he's a great actor, but the character of Zach Slater is TERRIBLE, ill conceived and basically a totally botched job. And when it comes to Ryan and their 'rivalry' I just don't see it. Cameron Mathison is another albatross for this show so combining him with Thorsten is just multiplying the suckage. I think Thorsten would be marvelous on OLTL, he would fit right in with that cast. He'd also be great on ATWT. I really hope ABC cans him or he walks. AMC would be much better off without him. Members EricMontreal22
While I have liked Zach much more than DaytimeFan at times--I agree *completely* he's a huge talent it's the character that's never been a fit for AMC (and no Ryan--a tleast when constantly pimped isn't really either, nor are Aiden types but...) Members Ann_SS
I had no idea. It explains a lot. I think that Michael Easton has been a disaster on OLTL. Thorsten should have gone to OLTL. I do think that Kelly Monaco has it on GH. How come Frons didn't get that deal to the actress who played Allison. She was one of the stars on PC and he likes blondes.
Members marceline
This seems to be a thing with Frons. The Zach/Ryan rivalry is just as contrived as the John/Todd rivalry on OLTL. AMC destroyed or diluted every other viable male on that show to make it all about two alpha males. The funny thing is that if TK goes to OLTL it will be Patrick/John all day, everyday. Frons loves the actors and the actors love each other. You will never see another character on that show ever again. And it won't even be the fun, hoyay-ridden type of rivalry. Just machismo and stupidity.
Members CSF
I couldn't agree more! The fact of the matter is, like you pointed out, if AMC was interested in telling good stories, the character of Zack Slater would have never come into formation. If Frons honestly believes that taking one actor from the canceled Port Charles and dropping them off into each of the remaining ABC soaps is an excellent idea that will be a major success, then Frons seriously needs to seeks some sort of help. The whole concept behind placing TK at AMC, Monaco at GH and Easton at OLTL was disastrous in my opinion. If you were going to take anyone from Port Charles over to another soap, it should have been General Hospital because that's where Kevin, Lucy, Allison, Scotty and Karen have a history, and that's where their characters were conceived. But wait, I forgot, Frons doesn't care about history, only quick gimmicky stunts. Losing Zack and even Ryan for that matter would be no big loss for AMC whatsoever. Their departures are long over due. If AMC wants to rise with excellent stories about passion, humanity, love, comedy, family and friendship (which the show was about prior to 2003), then bring back characters like Dimitri, Maria, Brooke, Tom, Sky, characters who are multi-dimensional with REAL ties to Pine Valley. Members Money
The last thing I want to see is TK on OLTL. There's already an over emphasis on the wrong characters. TSJ and ME are already air hogs and I don't see TK taking a backseat to anyone since he's consistently been on the frontburner on AMC.
Members Money
I always found it quite odd that Erin Hershey was never able to find a gig after PC's demise, let alone a soap on ABC. I thought the very least it would have been a mandate by Frons.
Members Peyton
My thoughts exactly. AMC survived and thrived before that character and can easily do so again. AMC would be better off without Zach Slater smothering the show.
Members CSF
Not to mention, her character, Allison Barrington is the granddaughter of GH character Amanda Barrington portrayed by Anne Jefferys since 1984. Even though Amanda was a recurring character, she still has a history with the Quartermaines, hence Derek Barrington and Celia Quartermaine. Also, Allison could have really stirred up trouble between Emily and Nikolas as well as Lucky and Liz and so would not have been mob related! She also could have been a real nemesis to Carly. Carly being the bitch from the wrong side of the tracks who gets what she wants and Allison being the conniving trust fund debutant who gets what she wants. (If I remember correctly, Emily didn't like Allison and they kind of snickered at each other at the 1998 Nurses Ball when Emily was with Nikolas. Or maybe that was 1999) Also, I always would have loved to have seen Edward having a companion after Lila's death. A la Jo and Stu on Search for Tomorrow. Edward and Audrey (who they axed) or Edward and Amanda or even Edward and Epiphany. John Ingle has amazing chemistry with those three characters and their respective actresses. It would have been a nice touch, even if it would play a minor role in the show. It would be about friendship and bonding. No death and mob madness! Members Money
Reminds me of the same cries about Michael Easton and his gigantic fanbase and how OLTL would be insane to get rid of him. TK and ME are cut from the same cloth. Both are over exposed, hyped individuals who would have worked in moderation but became total detriments to their shows due to Frons' inability to see they weren't the soap gods he made them out to be.
