I think daytime's on the verge of a new standard for gay characters. The Otalia story is brilliantly simple and beautiful. The show hasn't shied away from anything in regards to the two characters and it's being presented as the biggest story on the show. I read on TVGuide Canada that there's going to be a gay-themed storyline on Y&R and I trust the current writers to tell a good story.

Yes, Y&R has a reputation to live up to--"the best". (Half of SON rolls eyes).

I think they'll find an innovative take on this. My personal hope is that this is closer to Brothers and Sisters. Just an everyday homo...no big coming out...just living life and loving.

...And then loving their partner's brother...and then loving their partner again...and then their partner's brother again...and then their partner again...and then Phyllis finding out and blackmailing the hell out of them.

You're not an ass--you're just funny...in a good way.

Any bets on who the gay character(s) are going to be? I think Adam's a latent homosexual.

Gay storylines do not work on daytime, no one will ever commit to them or explore things in-dept. I'd rather have no gays on daytime, if they not going to committ to anything.

I'm not a regular Y&R viewer - who's the other guy in there with Adam?

Rafe, new lawyer, played by Ravi Gellman. See here.

Can we give

Y&R

a chance, first?

Imagine, too, the possibility of alpha-male Victor Newman having a gay son. Mr. Mumbles would flip. his. s**t.

So, that's probably why I don't see this happening. Because, it would be just too good to watch.

My money's on (get this) Phyllis and Sharon. I say those two will just decide one afternoon that Nick isn't worth it and screw each other instead. Plus, if the spoiler's true, then

Phyllis can help raise Sharon and Nick's new baby

.

I trust MAB and I think Rauch has his moments (he did want to tell a gay story on AW, before NBC or P&G killed the idea), but right now, Y&R seems to only feel most comfortable in writing for white straight guys. Even the women, most of them are struggling for good story, except for Kay and Phyllis. I'd rather they work out their problems before they introduce more complicated stories.

If I'd just started watching soaps, I would say the same thing about stories for women or about stories for non-whites. It hasn't always been this way, and if soaps are going to survive, can't continue to be this way. Even now, I think ATWT and GL have had more success than failure with writing gay stories. The downside is most other soaps are probably thinking, "Those shows are canceled," and if they do gay stories, it will probably be a meaningless PSA (like Lucas on GH) or a plot device/victim/no love life (like Bianca in most of her AMC run).

On Y&R, I'd love to see Michael as one-half of a gay storyline.

Though it ain't gonna happen, it definitely should.

1) Lauren deserves better than being Fisher manure and 2) CLB isn't that convincing as straight LOL
