Members jfung79
How would you revamp it? The old way before this where everyone in the industry voted on nominations was worse because a couple shows would dominate all the nominations. Members rangethatrover
Well Nelson just confirmed that Trevor St. John DID submit his name.... W. T. F. Michael Easton???? Guys, I did not start watching OLTL again until late May-June. During my viewing months- Easton was not only a supporting actor, but did not give one emmy worthy performance. Nada. Did he have some great scenes in the first half of the year???
Members Y&RWorldTurner
And the same thing happens today, I don't see much of a difference. I think there should be a committee that picks the pre-noms from each show, and those pre-noms would have to submit episodes from that same committee to be judged for them to come up with the final nominations. In order to determine the winner, another set of episodes would have to be submitted and voted on. Or they can let the soap press pick the pre-noms, which would never happen anyway. Anyway, both scenarios would ensure that people from their own shows don't get treated unfairly in the pre-nom process. Politics would still have a part, but at least the shows themselves won't be digging their own graves in this regard. Either way, this pre-nom process NEEDS TO GO. Members rangethatrover
The sad thing about Y&R's nominations is that 90% of their prenoms will get into the final 5 based on Y&R's number one status alone. Peter Bergman- Was he really a lead actor this year?? They will have tons of double nominees like they always do. Krystle Kahlil and Bryton? Heinlie? I mean Franz has had her standard shrieking, minny mouse voice schreaky moments at least. But Bryton, Khalil, Amelia, Emily O'Brien ... they are basically line reciters. I'm done bitching. But I can't wait to see the final five nominations. It should be hilarious.
Members Queen
I'm used to Y&R's pre-noms being garbage. Now that Victoria Rowell isn't being screwed, I can look at them and chuckle. Everything that woman said about those people was true. I don't even like Nikki but for MTS not to get a nomination(only screen time alone) is preposterous. Members Chris B
Yep Queen, Rowell was right. She wasn't being crazy or a diva, it clearly IS a popularity contest. I'm no fan, but I must say that Khalil more than deserved her slot for Younger Actress. She has several things she can submit and IMO has been doing well in her role as nuChristine. As long as I don't think of her as Lily, it's fine.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
OK, something weird is going on, how does Nelson know these pre-noms now, when according to the Daytime Emmy Calendar, pre-nom ballots haven't been sent out yet? http://www.daytimeemmys.tv/
Webmaster Errol Posted January 18, 2009 Webmaster Share Posted January 18, 2009 There was a fake list going around about who was pre-nominated earlier this week. Not sure if this is the list he used, or if he learned which actor has chosen not to submit themselves. Otherwise, someone not being voted on wouldn't be known yet. I don't know. I don't gossip. Members dragonflies
LOL I bet he got the fake list. Sorry that just strikes me as being funny
Members jfung79
The pre-noms mean there is now a limit of 2 per show in each category. It's a huge difference from the 3 actors from the same show in the same category across multiple categories that could happen before. The present system is at least better than back in the day. There were literally pretty much only two shows getting most of the Emmy nominations back then -- GH and Y&R. I do like your idea for how to come up with the pre-noms, though, that would avoid internal show politics.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
But bloc voting still happens, they just do it by network now. How else would you explain CBS actors being the only ones nominated in the Lead categories over the past two years? And why the majority of soaps up for Outstanding Drama Series are CBS soaps. Since CBS has the most soaps, it's at an advantage when nominations come out. You can't say that the soaps and actors on ABC aren't just as deserving. Members Cashton
If Nelson's wrong about the pre-noms, I'm going to be very happy (and I'll never defend Branco again!). EB, MTS and JW are simply the best. If Jess didn't submit herself then fine. But I think MTS wants an Emmy - and hell, I think she'd even settle for being nominated, just once! And like him or not, EB did some of the best work of his career this year. PB is gracious and professional and he's a great actor, too. There's no but - he should be nominated. Christian, eh, not so much. He's the real queen of daytime! It's funny though to care so much about these Emmy's when we probably won't even see them! It's a damn shame that the networks have made billions of dollars off soaps over the decades and yet they won't reward the viewers who still watch the shows. Members SteveFrame
If it has been covered I missed it somewhere but did the Emmys officially drop the 3 per category per show for pre-noms this year. I know some of the judges didn't like it last year but I didn't know they had officially dropped it.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
According to this year's Daytime Emmy Rulebook, it's back to two pre-noms in the acting categories. Also, this year, actors have to submit ONE episode to be judged.
Members rangethatrover
WOW. The one episode per category is going to make this a tough race to call!! I think it will make the blue ribbon panel actually WATCH the tapes. It will take up a lot less time. AMC will probably win for the friggin tornado. And JFP's Emmy bait legacy continues. Oh wow, and Charles Pratt is the writer behind it. Shocker.
