Massive, Across the Board Paycuts at ABC Daytime?!

Do AMC was budgeted down but not OLTL? Or was Agnes just not invovled at OLTL and so didn't speak for it?

And since when has Agnes been a paid consultant? that's good news, but something I wasn't aware of (the gossip has always been that no one's quite sure exactly WHAT her role at the soaps still is)

I appreciate all those actors--Susan Lucci especially taking the pay reduction though and seemingly understanding where it comes cfrom and not raising diva issues.

The way the except is structured she seemed to only know what AMC's situation was and not the other shows. People talk about ABC spinning things.

Sounds like everyone was a team player about that, which is good. Hopefully no one will have to lose their job then. I am sure Rebecca Budig's salary off the books will be helpful then too.

Frons' tendency to reward his faves at the expense of the shows helped bring the network to this point so there definitely needs to be some changes made in management. But in the end, I think that unless they're willing to take other drastic steps, - go to three days a week, online streaming, etc.. - they're just putting off the inevitable.

My take, as a Disney shareholder, is that ABC Daytime is taking a calm approach. An overall cut across the board gets rid of the diva BS. I actually think that Benard, Burton and Wright have taken pay cuts as well. They may be Frons' pets but a buck is a buck and he is keenly aware that he's being watched by his superiors.

It's a sad day in soaps when daytime's biggest star has to take a pay cut. I don't think though La Lucci is hurting for money. She does have other streams of income like her clothing line on HSN and Youthful Essence. Plus, I read an article recently that she's in talks with some investors to develop a line of furniture, similar to what Kathy Ireland has done. She's been very smart over the last 20 years or so to get involved in other business ventures.

And we don't know what her salary was to begin with, it's just speculation. Maybe she went from $6 million to $5 million? Her pocket books won't be feeling the loss, I'm guessing.

Nonetheless, it's still scary to come to the realization that no one is immune to these sagging ratings and tough economic times.

My guess is that she was earning more than a $1 million. I first read she was earning 7 figures back in the late 1980s early 1990s. So my guess is that with pay increases over the last few years she was earning somewhere between $1-$10 million. But again, it's all speculation.

Lucci's salary, the highest in the business, never went past 2 million a year, I expect that if she was making 2 million, she's now making 1 and if she was making 1 she's now making 750k.

But she's in another league. She's RICH thanks to years of toiling way selling whatever wasn't nailed to the floor at QVC and now HSN. Plus her 'Youthful Essence' system, which has sold over 6 million units.

Like I said in the other thread, I'm happy just for my own selfish reasons that they've agree to this pay cut. I don't want All My Children to disappear off the airwaves.

However, it sucks to have to take a pay cut and I hope these performers don't become bitter about coming to work. I hope they know we appreciate them and love being entertained. :D

Moderators, can we combine these 3 threads. I feel like I'm repeating myself.

Also... does any of the ABC soaps have any populartity in foreign countries? I know Y&R and B&B especially, rake in quite a bit from foreign broadcasts... B&B airs in primetime in some places. Are any of the ABC soaps sold to Canada? If not, then that's the problem with their revenue streams.

The greatest tv series season finale in history.
    • Mick Savage was sooo unbearable. And more unbearable was the reaction from the female characters to him - they were acting like he is God's gift to women and sooo irresistible. To a point of unbelievable cringe.
    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?

    • Now this strikes me as funny. I have it up on my acct. The thing is I only have S2. Didn't want either 1 or 3.  Perhaps I should just list all of these that I have up.  Parodies: Dirty Sexy Money, Filthy Rich Incomplete: The Monroes, All That Glitters, Falcon Crest (have all just not all up), Once & Again S2 only Complete: Models Inc, Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Paper Dolls, Flamingo Road
    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!

    • In case it is of interest to anyone here, I have digital copies (computer files, mp4 etc.) of all of the episodes. And, besides having the files they are all up on my usual video hosting site, acct name: shallotpeel, channel it is in: Primetime Soaps and file names like  Flamingo Road S1E15 Hurricane Flamingo Road was a primetime soap on NBC by Lorimar Productions. 2 seasons. 1980-1982. Morgan Fairchild, Barbara Rush. Developed by Rita Lakin.
    • Arguably DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been brilliant lately & definitely was last week. But, here I am with nitpick & technicalities. This was the only misstep but it was just a stupid thing that should have been caught. Deidre Hall as Marlena has this one problematic line, "It didn't matter how many identities you had, I always knew exactly who you were, you were the man who saved my life." - Marlena, DAYS, 6-2-25 Unfortunately the flashback closest to it was when Marlena was on the phone, terrified because she thought he was Stefano. Yes, it's true that the line is not accurate. There were many times when she did not feel the way she is claiming because of whatever was going on in story with his 'retconned to hell & back' identity & origin story. Does it keep the whole week from being called excellent? Nope.
