Members Darcy
Per Soapnet, this is the last year of the ABC Super Soap Weekend at Disneyworld. They will list all the stars attending tomorrow and they try to spin it by saying they will be doing different things but what they listed is things that they have already done for years (BCEFA event, CMA, cruises, etc.) Doesn't seem like a good sign for ABC soaps. http://soapnet.go.com/soapnet/article/path.../category_shows
Members LeClerc
Not a good sign at all. And you're right: they are trying to make it sound like they are replacing SSW with even more events, but those are basically all events they used to do in addition to SSW. Members marceline
I'm not surprised. Events like SSW are expensive to put on and rarely make money. Plus, given the economy I'm willing to bet projected attendance is plummeting by the day.
Members UKBoi
And the ones that can afford to attend dont want to for fear of being forced to sit through lectures on the benefits of MonaVie
Members dragonflies
I saw in article from the Orlando Sentinel that Frons said that people were saying they want soap stars(or something like that) to come their neighborhood Since when does Frons give a sh*t about what people want? Members Ryan Chamberlain
Oh man. This pisses me off. I've always wanted to go to SSW and assumed since I'm going to be working soon. That I could save up the money and go next year. And, you all are right. This isn't a good sign for ABC soaps at all. Frons-y. You can royally kiss my left arse-cheek. Members EricMontreal22
I read that was the ultimate goal of the cruises though--to ultimately take over. They surely make a LOT more money on them (though I'd be kinda likely to go to a SSWeekend--especially being a big theme park lover--and could never justify a soap cruise personally). Aren't the cruises only one year old? How 80s and retro Here in Canada at least through the late 90s we regularly had Y&R stars come to malls--do they still do that in the US? It always made me jealous that no one from my shows came
Members lmfan
They still do, at least in Toronto. They also go to casinos. I saw Tracey Bregman at a casino in August and I know the actrs who play Chloe and Cane were at a shopping center last weekend. Christian Le Blanc and Michelle Staffor were also at events this past year in Hamilton/Toronto.
Members EricMontreal22
Has Y&R always done this more than other shows? Or is it that Global who airs the show in Canada pays more for the promotion?
Members Peyton
This will save ABC Daytime extra money which is needed in this bad economy and with a decline in soaps in general.

Members marceline
I think the county fair/rib burn off/shopping mall gig will always be a staple of soap promotion. It's the way for the network to throw a little love toward the affiliates. I saw Michael Easton in Akron last October. When I went to his fan event this summer I finally got to ask him who he pissed off to end up getting sent to Akron in October. ABC didn't do Fun in the Sun this year either did they? Members marceline
He. Cracked. Up. I kept saying "What happened man? You lose a bet or something? Do you owe your manager money?! You need to buy somebody a gift basket!" But seriously he said he liked to do events like that when he gets the chance because it gives him a chance to connect with his fans who can't come to the big soap events. Plus the Akron event was for the Akron Women's Fair so he did a little pitch for ovarian cancer research which you know is a cause that's important to him.
