Was there a preemption for soaps last Friday or something? They all did disastrously that day.

These ratings are atrocious.

Next station - Cancellationville!

They all deserve them, though, and deserve so much worse. Cancellation for everyone! I just cannot wait for them to pull the plug on GL.

While those of us who watch and even, on occasion, enjoy GUIDING LIGHT would obviously not want that to happen. The show still has a lot of life left in it.

I so agree. With the exception of Y&R and sometimes AMC, they all are terrible and deserve terrible ratings. In fact, I think they do deserve worse, particularly OLTL.

GL should have been taken out of its misery some time ago. Oh why or why is it more important that a show last 40, 50 60 years rather than die a natural death?

:lol:  Watch out, Jess — the Haters are after us! They are so awful, stripped of any sort of coherent, well-written story, with no heart, with awful plot points gallore... They should all be cancelled instead of spending so much money on producing these shows that betray the trust given to them in 90% of the cases.

And the worst thing is — the show won't end on a high note. Instead it will be remembered for the sad, sad, sad state in which it was when it was cancelled.

You're cheerleading for the cancellation of a show that you know other people are enjoying, yet you refer to the ones you're offending as "haters"? How does that work exactly?

You're not the one I was referring to.

My mistake. I apologize.

I just get very frustrated when people demand GL's cancellation because I insist that the show is not all beyond repair.

Take a look at what GL has to offer now: Before Today

I don't think that was aimed at you.

I understand your opinion. I am sad for GL and I think, unlike many others, that EW did the best that could be done. She tried to save the show. Unfortunately, it's a shadow of itself and that is sad. I would have much rather it gone out on a high note, then die on the respirator.

It would be great if soaps could be treated like prime time, die when they are supposed to and be replaced with another soap that might create enthusiasm for a few years, and then it dies and is replaced. It's the only way to save the genre.

I am just so frustrated seeing this show being destroyed in such a terrible way in front of my own eyes. It's as if it died and they're still sucking the blood out of it. The destruction never stops.

Another truth is that this show has no money: having that in mind, it's really unlikely it will be saved.

Thank you for the link!

Well it's good to see OLTL stay steady and rise a bit in Total Viewers.

It's so sad to see what's happening to GL. At the moment I want to see GL cancelled, put out of its misery, but when it does happen, I know I'll probably end up in tears. Sixteen years of loyal viewership down the drain it seems.

Well you know I agree. I just wonder what would happen with a new soap. The network - whichever one wanted to take the risk - would have to really commit to it and promote the hell out of it. And it would probably be good to show them in the evening. But I have to admit that I'm only still in this to watch how the story ends.

As for the ratings, not a lot of surprises. It seems like we are in a bit of a holding pattern. We haven't had any big weekly ups or downs. The year to year picture however is different. ABC just keeps tanking and Y&R...ouch.

I think that is exactly the way I would launch a new soap. Instead of doing nighttime spin offs from the dinosaurs (ie night shift), launch a new soap by incorporating characters into a night time drama for a short period of time and then tease it day time. For instance, you could plug a family in as neighbors or business competitors on Brothers & Sisters and then take them daytime after attracting some interest. From that you develop a core soap. JMO. It's simply not going to work with 40 to 60 year old soaps going night time and then hoping it will lead to daytime viewers.

Michael, I am a 24 year GL viewer, and I consider the show to have been "cancelled" as of Feb 29 08 (the day the new promodel debuted). I do not consider what I am watching now to be GL. I know others feel differently. But the show has been dead to me a long time.

I go between wishing it was cancelled altogether (just because it is so damned sad to see it limp along), and hoping for a change in quality! At this point thought, I think all we can really hope for is that when CBS pulls the plug, we get to see the show go out with class and a bit of dignity.

Nice to see you "over here," ivn/Monkey/Kwing/kingsway/etc.

GL should have been allowed to die if they were going to let it go to pot like it has. I've been a big GL cheerleader for years, but enough is enough. :(
