If the right producer came along, the Sugdens could move into the fore. Granted, killing a load of Dingles would cause an uproar, but allowing three to five of them to leave the village wouldn't be a loss to the show.

While I do not like or approve of the Bob/Laurel pairing, it will give us years of story especially as Arthur, Cathy, Heath, and Gabby (all legacy characters) come of age scared by Bob & Laurel and act out in turn.

I just hope the next producer of Emmerdale gets rid of the needless exposition & repetitive scenes which is a hallmark of MacLeod's tenure.

Sidenote: I thought that Scott Windsor could return to battle Bob for custody of Heath and Cathy, however, he was involved with Debbie, so...yeah...

Robert was involved with Debbie too and he never interacts with her, so it doesn't mean anything. But there are other reasons why Scott is not likely to ever return.

The main issue with the Sugdens is there aren't even any left to bring back, unless Kelvin Fletcher decides he wants to return. This is where the show could bring in new Sugdens, but I doubt they will bother.

I like Dan a lot, and I like Kerry, but I think their stories have reached a natural conclusion (unless they keep Kerry around to take her grandson Kyle). I'd write the family out and bring back more Merricks.

On to the current show: I know I shouldn't have been, but I was still surprised over Cain's behaviour towards Ross. He's pure and utter filth, just like his demon seed Debbie. They're both loathsome creatures and the mere sight of them is making me sick. I now wish that Joe had never come back instead of this. I feared it would end this way with him another victim of the Debbie Dingle curse.

If the little psycho Lachlan could bump off Cain and/or Debbie before his inevitable downfall then I would forgive him everything!

I have to admit by Cain standards I thought he was fairly reasonable - in years past he would have dangled him off a ledge. Still, I have no sympathy for Debbie and it's time for Cain to not have to be involved in her messes.

the garage is now called Barton and Dingle, so I guess Ross will take part of it before he leaves.

Very much yes to that!  :D

I really shouldn't be laughing, but it's a perfect description of why Cain's actions were those of a massive hypocrite. He would have done exactly what Ross did if he had been in his shoes.

Can we report Iain MacLeod to Ofcom for Crimes Against Emmerdale?

I'd actually been enjoying the show a bit more this week and wondered if it was some new work being phased in. Sorry it's still not working for you.

I've enjoyed the Charity/Ryan stuff this week. Emma Atkins is a wonderful actress and I never tire of seeing her on screen.

My issue with Emmerdale is that there are stray bits which are great, but the whole hasn't been as exciting for me as it once was in the last six to nine months. I do hope the new work is being phased in as the MacLeod's stories fade out.

The Spencer drama just isn't clicking for me (I feel like the actors aren't engaged with it). I'm no fan of Joe Tate and that drama. I wish Debbie would stop crying and do something. BUT I love the chaos Laurel & Bob have wrought on the village which should play out for years to come as it involves legacy characters, their children, and their families.

Love it!

I don't really see the problem with it, to be honest. It's a bit gimmicky but they've done much worse.

If I could believe that they would make the subject justice then I would be more intrigued. Hopefully they will prove me wrong.

In their favour they have tackled difficult subjects before, so who knows.....

@I Am A Swede thought you might like this. It's a few articles someone posted from a 1993 soap magazine. If you click on it there are two Emmerdale pieces.

Thank you   :)

The good old days when the Tates ran Home Farm. I guess technically a Tate is in charge at Home Farm again, but Joseph cannot hold a candle to Frank, Kim and the rest....

Nope. He can't. Everything in that synopsis stems from the character, their drives, hopes, ambitions, and that's what makes just that synopsis compelling. Imagine seeing it on your screen six times a week!! Thrilling!

Now we have a muddy, directionless mess of a show: What does Joe Tate actually want now that he has revenge on Debbie? What's Vanessa's purpose? What is Lachlan's goal besides killing people? Isn't he still in school? Does Aaron have any other life ambitions other than Liv and Robert? And don't get me started on poor, neglected, aimless Victoria Sugden...
