Members Bright Eyes
Jesus Christ, this Heather story rages my hatred of her to an all time high. This is a SOAP OPERA, not a child's misadventures. Get the hell outta here! And using Dot to hate on Denise and prop that wet blanket was NOT COOL. And the actor that plays Ben is atrocious. Truly and epicly. Kill him off, please! Edited May 11, 2011 by Amello
Members MichaelGL
Abi gains points in my book for standing up to Phil. Unfortunately, they had her making him dinner by the end of the episode! So is Ronnie's return to the square temporary? I thought Womack was leaving the show?

Members Y&RWorldTurner
Posted this in the AMC/OLTL cancellation thread, but it might get more notice here. It's an interview with John Yorke. Anyway, AMC/OLTL get mentioned, and he talks about basic differences between the UK and US soap industry. http://blogs.bbcamerica.com/anglophenia/2011/05/10/bbc-exec-john-yorke-responds-to-u-s-daytime-soap-cancellations/

Members DRW50
So did I. Mel and Phil are two of the main reasons I don't love the early 00's the way most do. I just thought she was a cold fish and Steve would have been more interesting elsewhere.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Her friendship with Lisa was so fake and forced too. The character was an annoying Mary Sue, with no redeeming qualities. The show tried very hard for a long time to make her happen, and I don't think it ever worked. I remember when Dan Sullivan kidnapped her and how I wish he had killed her.
Members DRW50
I think there was a certain glamorous image they were trying to sell with Lisa/Steve. I think it probably worked in PR, and they did have their fans. I think I just don't like characters who are propped by making Ian look bad. Back when Ronnie and Jack first arrived I felt like Yorke was sort of trying to position them like Steve and Mel, but it didn't exactly work out that way, for many reasons (Maslen's serious lack of charisma being among them).
Members Y&RWorldTurner
It's funny how quickly Mel and Steve were forgotten when they were written out. Mel and Steve were all a part of Matthew Robinson's revamp. He must have had some plan for their perception in mind. I think Robinson is largely responsible for ushering in the show's modern era, but I don't know if his tweaks helped or hurt in the longrun.
Members DRW50
It's interesting to me because when Walford Web interviewed Robinson, he said something to the effect that he didn't fire the de Marcos because he was afraid some of the actors in the roles would string him up. But Louise Jameson said that Robinson told her, and the rest of the family who were still there (everyone but the grandparents), that they were going to be moved into the Vic and become the show's central family. Then a few weeks later he left and John Yorke came, and fired everyone but Beppe.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
The DiMarco's were a huge flop, and from my understanding, Yorke and Tony Jordan were itching to ditch them to make way for the Slater's, which is why all the DiMarco's except for Beppe were axed. God, I can't imagine any of them in the Vic... The DiMarco's were introduced by Robinson's predecessor Jane Harris, who was the EP from 96-98. Harris is also responsible for the Ireland episodes...
