Members rhinohide
Not a team player? Really? Beth Ehlers has spent 20 years on a soap that has resided in the trash heap. Twenty freakin' years!!!!! In that time she's remained one of the most popular performers in the genre and been honored by multiple emmy nominations. She OWNS the role of Harley Cooper on the only soap she's ever starred on. Not sure how other people define the term team player, but I think Beth Ehlers is the quintessential team player. She could have jumped ship, as so many former castmates have, but never did. I really wonder what Laura Wright has to say about this. I am sure somebody out there has some gossip to share. Members Kubla Khan
Beth Ehlers and Martha Byrne acted in the exact. same. manner. Ehlers could've REALLY trashed GL and Wheeler, but she didn't. She simply told a story of what had happened to her. Martha Byrne did the same thing. She revealed how tacky and idiotic Goutman acted during negotiations, and how they screwed her over. Soap opera sets are a little different from the corporate world, sorry to say. The fact is this: Beth was CALLED (by an intern, no less) and she was told she needed to come in and get her stuff. They knew she would be coming. So to deny her access REAKS of some kind of set-up on Ellen Wheeler's part. And no, it is NOT standard operating practice in the soap opera world. It's not. If Beth was fired from the show and came back to get her stuff, she would've been let in without a problem. It was a calculated move. (Since they TOLD her to come get her stuff, wouldn't it have MADE SENSE for them to leave a note with the guards that she needs to be allowed in to her dressing room? If they wanted to be spiteful pricks about it, which they are, they could've had one of the guards escort her right away to her room, but to completely strip her credentials and turn her away was just plain @$$hole behavior!) This I believe to be true: Ellen Wheeler is a spiteful human being. She's very immature, and she's been pretty much loathed by most of her cast (save for Ron Raines) since the beginning. It's Ellen's show, and that's that. She has no clue what she's doing as an EP (she's driven this show to the ground, and it's on the verge of cancellation), and everyone on that show wants out. What has RPG said about GL that has been bad? Name me one thing. Beth has experienced LOTS of [!@#$%^&*] at GL and PGP for the past several years. She could've really trashed the way things really are over there, and what a tyrant EW is, and what a horrible mess the show is, but she didn't. The "denied access" story is the tamest thing that she could have spoke about, for real. Oh my god! You have to be kidding me. RPG: "We have Beth Ehlers coming over from Guiding Light to All My Children!" CM: "She just couldn't resist you, huh?" RPG: "No she couldn't!" CM: "So are you excited to be coming over to AMC?" BE: "I'm so thrilled. Thank you guys for having me! It's going to be a good time." THAT's RUBBING IT IN!? It's called promotion. What the hell would ABC be thinking if they DIDN'T mention the fact that a very popular actress was joining the show!? The only drama queens I see are in this thread! Members Kubla Khan
AMEN! Beth Ehlers has been treated like [!@#$%^&*] by many, many regimes. Remember, back in 2000, when she hit an impasse in negotiations, and Paul Rauch pulled a "Martha Byrne" and issued a casting call for a recast Harley? She's been burned many times by this show, and finally she sees that this show, which now aspires to be the freakin Hills is gonna be cancelled soon and decided to make a leap for greener pastures. Quick, burn her at the stakes!
Members detroitpiston
I actually think BE was being nice. If they had did something like that to me, I would have went to the mags and completely trashed Wheeler and P&G. But weather you love her or not, Beth leaving is another nail in the coffin for GL. The show is dieing, has been for the past 2 decades. Some big changes need to happen, or the fan's and actors that they have left will continue to leave. Members Y&RWorldTurner
How are soap sets different from the corporate world? A job is a job, regardless if you're an actor or a business executive. I've known people who've worked for my company for years and have been through similar BS, that's nothing new. Do I think it's fair? No. Do I think Ellen Wheeler is petty and killing the show? You bet. However, Beth's treatment is nothing new, stuff like this has been happening on soaps and everywhere else for years. And yes, CBS and ABC were so childish at the Emmy ceremony. Why the hell do I need to know that Beth Ehlers is joining AMC on an Emmy telecast? Couldn't they just have released a statement or do a commercial? I would understand promoting a return of a popular actor/character to a show on an Emmy telecast, but why the hell should the public care that Beth Ehlers is joining AMC as a completely new character? It also didn't help that most CBS stars kept on talking about how they're #1 and all that jazz as well.
Members NYC123
The reason why they premoted at the Emmys was because the lack of ABC noms and it was a way to stick it to them
Members Drew
Maybe she should have done so before quitting?
Members MTSRocks
Why couldn't Beth call an make arrangements before she showed up, and once again I stretch on a SUNDAY? So an intern called Beth, big whoop, it's not like the intern called to fire her. Beth left GL, I don't see why Wheeler or Bloom would have to be the ones to call her. They have A LOT more things to do, that's what interns are for ya know.
Members Soapsuds
Exactly! Of course BE wanted to stick it to GL and P&G. Like Y&RWorldturner said in about a year she will be gone at AMC.
Members c0rinne
I don't feel sorry for her. 1. Why did they have to call HER to go pack up her stuff? She left, and not last week, but a while ago. She should have made arrangements to pick up her things, and find out the procedures. 2. Why did she go in on a Sunday? Who works on a Sunday? She doesn't. At least not for them, not any more. Did she think she'd just have a free pass in the building as long as she wanted? 3. She should have thought about bringing her kids with her. Something tells me the whole situation for the past few months hasn't been very amicable. She and RPG certainly have been airing their dirty laundry for a while. Anyone with any bit of common sense should realize that the powers that be would not be bending over backwards for her. I say, get over it, grow up Beth. I've lost a lot of respect. Members MTSRocks
I wonder what she'll do if they ever get rid of RPG? And since she passed up the role of Patty Williams, I hope TPTB at Y&R still go ahead with recasting the role. There are plenty of good actresses out there, who would play the hell out of that character.
