OLTL: Discussion for the week June 9-13

I tried really hard to watch the whole show today, but the teen stuff just kills me every time. My FF fingers starts to twitch uncontrollably. They're the reason I can no longer watch live. Loved Rex/Roxy/Charlie. Dying to know who Rex's real father is. Interesting mention of Bo in that convo. Adrianna is so coming back in the not too distant future. Loved that Adrianna and Marcie bonded again, but that as soon as Adrianna walked out the door, Marcie was totally on Team Gigi "Go get your man -- he's free to love again!"

Brody does nothing for me (I have a thing about short) but I miss Layla (another fave of mine), so I could so easily hop aboard the Brayla bandwagon just for transitional purposes.

My Unpopular Opinion (forgive me Shane):

I just don't care about Marty OR Tina :P ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~running from thread dodging rotten eggs and to mah toes.

<peeking back in to add> I lmao at that photo of John and Marty. It's the same goofy shot they've used of McBain over and over again and they photo shopped SH/Marty into it (badly). How hard would it be to have Easton pose one more time? <shaking head>. Such a little thing. But I noticed it even in fast forward mode.

Another overall solid show.

Rex/Charlie/Roxy were the best scenes.

Thought Adrianna's finals scenes were good.

I will take shirtless Brody ANYDAY! :D

Starr/Cole stuff was boring. But I will that woman in the diner was a b*tch. There are 30 and 40 year olds that aren't capable of having a child. Not saying that I agree with what Starr/Cole are doing, but it isn't some stranger's job to give her opinion about it.

No opinion on the return of Marty and Tina, but that is simply I don't have any history with the characters because I am a newer viewer of the show. But I have faith in RC and OLTL bring back old characters much better than a couple of others soaps that shall remain nameless. ;)

The woman in the restaurant telling them kids shouldn't have kids? That was the only part of the show I saw because I had to run out, but I thought it didn't go far enough. All the ABC soaps have this bizarre Jerry Springer mentality about teenagers. On OLTL Starr is pregnant, on GH the character of Georgie got married--married I say--at the same age Starr is now. Lulu Spencer on that show became pregnant just slightly older than Starr and thankfully opted for an abortion. No one on these shows finish high school or goes to college anymore, there is no such thing as a career, and all of these characters if they were real would feel right at home on Springer.

Jess, Natalie, Starr, Cole...did or do any of them go to school and want to be anything professionally? AMC I can't think of who their kids are, but did JR and Jaime ever go to college?

Yes Rhinohide, you're right about Jessica. I think Natalie was studying to become a forensic tech or something? I dunno.

And yes, Jessica was pregnant as a teen and lost her baby thanks to dorian <_<

I forgot about that. That's when Dorian ran her over in a car, or was it Lyndsay's daughter she ran over? (I forget her name).

But seriously, imagine if you were Viki's neighbor and every one of her kids became pregnant at 16--including the niece--you would wonder if "Deliverance" was going on behind the ivied gates of Llanfair.

I have to say, this is about the only thing I don't agree with the majority of this board on.

Sure, he does a lot of push-ups, but the guy's got ZERO charm. He quickly lost his appeal to me. Now he's just another gym rat.

But I know I'm in the minority on this one. I'll happily sit alone. :)

    • Randy (Doug's friend who works for Joey) -- Joey told Randy weeks ago that Joey's plan was to get Doug into so much debt that Doug would be forced to get Vanessa's real estate holding turned over to Joey, to use for money-laundering.  That's been the plan all along, which the viewers knew.  The only thing new is that Joey finally told Doug this. I think Joey is written badly.  I also think Jon Lindstrom is doing "Now I am going to act menacing".   But I don't really feel the menace.  It's too overdramatic and it doesn't feel like a real person.  Jon is a fine actor on GH, so I don't know what's happening here -- the entire BTG mobster premise is badly designed/written.  I don't know if Guza pushed for a mobster storyline?  Or did Jon?  (Jon wrote a novel about Hollywood mobsters). It just doesn't fit.  It feels (to me) like this storyline for Jon was just shoved onto the canvas but it doesn't fit all all. Monday's scene of Mona coming into the "casino" to check up on where Leslie supposedly lost money in the slot machines -- and Randy explaining to Mona that there are no slot machines, there is nothing but the card room.  I had to laugh because they had characters comment that it's just a card room and not a casino -- the show is now acknowledging that there's nothing there.  If they are going to do this, then have it make sense for Fairmont Crest residents to visit a high-end glamourous casino, and not a random room with one table. So what money is Joey laundering? A while back, Joey told Vanessa that he knows about her sexual philandering because owns the escort service that she'd been using. But I don't care...  I'd just prefer that the entire mobster storyline go away.
    • I caught up this past weekend. The show is better written, but I have been bored with the show. I did notice it ranked in the top 5 again this week, so that's a good sign.
    • I can't take this show seriously. I truly miss WJB writing this show. Bradley didn't inherit his dad's talent.
    • Maybe if there had been a good close up or two
    • I haven't had a chance to view the interview, but I'm glad Mike didn't get the part of Derek.  Derek is a badly written character. Any Ben Gavin screenshot from yesterday's show?
    • Wait, what? So, Martin’s not running for President anymore? Just like that?  I didn’t expect this storyline to be long term but I would’ve liked to see it play out for a little while longer, or at least until Martin’s secret was revealed. And definitely not fade out with a whimper. Sort of like Naomi’s lawsuit against Bill’s firm; what was the point of it all if it was just gonna wrapped up so easily and (probably) forgotten about?  Eva is still the breakout character though. I’m looking forward to seeing where she goes from here with everyone, especially if the twist that we’re all suspecting turns out to be true.  And I did find the gambling storyline interesting finally, now that we know Joey’s endgame. I’d like to see it play out and to see what happens to everybody involved in it.  As for Derek/Ashley… I wonder how it would’ve played out if they actually had cast Mike Manning as Derek. Yeah, the writing isn’t there but I imagine that Derek would have more of a personality lol and I also imagine that it would’ve made Ron Carlivati’s head explode

    • That would've been a good pick! She was great on B&B and like you said, she's already in Atlanta.

    • Oooo. I like the current actress, but that's a pretty great choice.
