I really can't bear to watch ATWT too much right now. I know Dusty wasn't everyone's favorite, but dammit, you just don't kill off legacy characters willy-nilly.

What I liked: 1) Dusty got a funeral, unlike Hal Munson. 2) Allison gave a touching tribute to the man who saved her life. 3) Meg, Lily, Lucinda, Holden were all there, characters who go back with Dusty to the mid-Eighties. What I didn't like: 1) No mention of John Dixon, the man who raised Dusty like a son? 2) Dusty was a businessman, but only 11 people were at his funeral...a few extras couldn't be hired to fill up the pews? 3) Important people from Dusty's past couldn't send flowers or messages, i.e. Lucy, Molly? On a humorous note, isn't this the third time Emily has made a big entrance at a memorial service? It's always the same...the service is under way, someone is speaking, the doors are flung open, a hush falls over the church...IT'S EMILY! Her funeral-crashing is second only to the Hubbard Squash as an ATWT tradition!

I didn't like the service, other than Ali's speech. (I thought Barbara was supposed to speak?) It was nice that Will stifled his attitude for Barbara and went with her; Lucinda's little speech was nice. But it just felt flat. I mean, how many times have I seen Em stutter and cry over a lost man? Why wasn't Noah there?? Regardless of Luke's feelings, Dusty had gone out of his way to help Noah deal with the aftermath of his father's crimes.

LOL...I can't believe that Margo and Dallas managed to find a spare moment that the farm wasn't bursting at the seams with people. And obviously, Dallas was taking great care while tearing up Emma's kitchen. Even the kitchen towels were perfectly folded.

You mean, like when she shot Paul with that gun she conveniently had in her coat pocket?

Emily: Ohmygod...ohmygod, what did I just do!?

Me (at the TV screen): You freakin' missed his heart by a mile, is what you did.

I work alone. :D

Having only seen the first few acts after several tries because watching later on cbs.com is a pain in the ass, I was still able to make a few observations.

How in the world could Lucinda claim to have known Dusty longer than anyone at the funeral? Dusty was a boy in the days of Barbara, James, Ariel, Gunnar, John and Karen - long before she and Lily set foot in town.

I thought I had a hearing problem when Gwen told the babysitter she and Will would have their phones OFF for the duration of the service! While their newborn is in someone else's care! Not on vibrate, OFF. Oh, and "Hallie wanted some fresh air?" For real? A kid with just a few weeks of life under her belt expressed the need to escape a stuffy house for awhile, in January? If Sophie can do any better, by all means, give the child back. Then again, she's asking for the sitter's credentials instead of whisking Hallie out of the cold, pronto. <_<

How long does Barbara expect to let her persona be tainted by bad dental work? The most intuitive women in her life are noticing a problem, but still no acknowledgment from Will or Paul. It's likely that Gwen will mention it to her hubby, though. Do these guys at least notice when their spouses change hair colors? I hope we're going for a hat trick with Kim hearing the lisp next. You have to pull together in times of crisis, kiddo.

Emily's crying is one of the best things Kelley Menighan Hensley brings to her character. I used to LOVE it when Em would have panic attacks and freak out like nobody's business.

    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).

    • I liked them, too, and was really disappointed it never went anywhere. The whole art theft story was ridiculous, but they had a nice chemistry. Certainly nicer than Alan with Christine. With her, he looked like the funny uncle. The worst thing they did to Bolger, IMO, was having Phillip write that DREADFUL novel and dramatizing it while he wrote it. GAG, that has to be in the running for one of their worst storylines that didn't involve wacky things like clones or time travel. Soaps rarely do school storylines, or don't do them for very long. Not the case so much in the early days of soaps, but after GH took off in the late 70s other soaps took their lead and would catapult teens/young adults into adult stories right away. That's one reason Phillip and Mindy ended up with so many ex-spouses--they started getting married really young. They shipped Dina and Cameron off really fast after high school and stuck Alan Michael in a marriage storyline with Harley. Did he EVER go to college? I don't think so. It may also partly explain why Quint and Annabelle had to go, beyond TPTB wanting to do a cast sweep. Teaching is not a profession that plays well on a soap. Quint definitely had to quit being Indiana Jones, because that wore thin really fast, but they didn't do him favors by making him a professor. If they wanted to keep him, they should have done what they did with Amanda (who was in another dead-end soap job, concert pianist)--have him work at Spaulding as one of the major stockholders.
    • Judith McConnell (Augusta) and Denise Alexander (Lesley) were great screen partners on GH.  They got into some stellar arguments in character in the medicine room.
    • He also commented that Brad knows that fans are sick of the constant fake deaths on this show: Finn, Sheila, etc and that it's hard to take this seriously if it's another fake death

    • I just don't think Brad Bell has it in him to actually kill off Liam. He should have killed off Eric when he had the chance. I know John McCook is an original cast member, but Eric is even more useless than Liam. Eric should have died and then it would be revealed that he died without a valid will, so Donna, as his wife, inherits everything, including his shares in Forrester Creations.
    • I think we all will, isn't that how soaps work? lol
    • ^^ I'll believe it when it actually happens.
