Members MarkH
I was with you up to the LML part, and I started out as one of her greatest fans. When Nikki did the odd thing of suddenly switching from being Victor's ally to bring down Jack to, overnight, wanting a board seat and then running for Senate...it MADE NO SENSE. Why did she overnight change? Then, she started doing really non-Nikki things. She humiliated Victoria by putting Brad's affair with Sharon in the press. She had her son's new wife arrested ON HER WEDDING DAY (a woman with whom, till recently before, Nikki had had a close partnership and almost-friendship). For the next six months, Nikki made not a lick of sense. Not one part of her arc was consistent with history, or felt like the Nikki we'd known. Now, in later revisionism, Nikki started to say that she had grown...that this was all a manifestation of coming into her own as a mature woman. Fine. Except that doesn't happen overnight, and it doesn't turn you into Alexis Carrington. Nikki stayed ruined...and LML lost me as a fan (I held on through Pheila...I held on through the Reliquary and Carmen the Mess...I held on through the killing of my beloved John Abbott)....until Clear Springs. The mortal danger of so many that she loved (Victoria and Baby, Nick, Noah, Katherine) made Nikki the emotional center of Y&R. It was Nikki's character that emerged out of the ashes...softer again, a loving emotional mother. And finally, Nikki seemed like a mature woman who had come into her own. Not a barracuda Senator in designer suits, but a woman with the courage to ignore vanity during times of crisis, who held vigil with her suffering family. I know a lot of people hated her court case, but I thought it redefined Nikki again as someone who would try to honor her children's wishes. Honestly, I'm delighted to see Nikki...but I think LML damn-near ruined her. It's only recently again that I see MTS acting with energy and passion and authenticity. I couldn't be happier. Members Y&RWorldTurner
^No, I agree that LML wrote Nikki out of character, but she has used Nikki a lot more than Jack F. Smith did. Nikki was nothing but wallpaper under Smith. LML gave Melody more meaty material to act out than she's probably had since 1997. LML did ruin Nikki, but at the same time, in 2007, MTS was the best actress bar none on the show. She acted her heart out and is defintely the front runner for the Lead Actress Emmy IMO. Members DeeeDee
Any good stuff from LML's tenure is SOLELY due to the actors.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
I totally agree, Melody Thomas Scott is a prime example of that.
Members DaytimeFan
Yeah, LML really contributed nothing to Y&R. All she did was allow MTS to act, which she has done so beautifully!

Members DeeeDee
Amen. Mel Scott is one of Y&R's most underrated & undervalued assets. She should already have several Lead Actress trophies & if she doesn't win one this year there is simply no justice.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Eric Braden just gets better each and every day. So nice to see vindictive Victor in full force once more... Jack and Sharon are so much more enjoyable these days... Good Friday show...
Members Y&RWorldTurner
You know, you have to feel for Nikki. Though Victor loves her more than he has any other woman, I don't think he ever quite respected her the way he has Ashley or even Hope.
Members Khan
The difference, though, is that Victor "created" Nikki, in a way. Whenever he talks about how he brought her up out of nothing, he isn't kidding. Therefore, as one of his "pet projects," Nikki is expected to display her complete loyalty and allegiance, with no hesitation or objection. And, I'm afraid, as long as they live, Victor will see her only as that.
Members Adam
I agree with that. Nikki is in 3rd place. I have never personally enjoyed Nikki and Victor when they are this happy family. One of the main reasons why I am loving this show once again. Their conflict is FRONT AND CENTRE and I love every minute of it. Members Y&RWorldTurner
Did anyone notice that chilling classical background music at the end of today's episode? You know, when Victor was behind Nikki at the hospital as she was watching/talking to a premature Reed? I'm so glad that generic soft rock music Latham used is GONE. Sidenote, Melody Thomas Scott said that they were using real premature babies to play Reed and the scenes where the premature baby smiled at her earlier in the week wasn't planned and it brought genuine tears to her eyes. Members Adam
Yeah I noticed the music. Some of the classic scores have been on a bit in the last few weeks. That was a REAL Y&R scene with Nikki at the hospital. Aww @ the premature baby smiling. Its so hard to believe one woman's sick agenda could damage a show so much and the instant her mark is gone, the show turns on a dime. I am still in shock. Members DeeeDee
Nope. Nikki is 2nd. Ashley is 3rd.
Members BadZoe
I was hoping that Nikki would throw at Victor, "I don't need to go to a strip joint, I'll just take Heff up on his offer and do a centerfold." That would shut the old fart up.
