I can't understand that either. They railroaded McCain in 2000 and dragged him through the dirt. It just doesn't make any sense to me that he would look to them for help. I think it shows that he will do anything he can to get elected.

They can't run on the issues. It's as simple as that. So they will play up every little gaffe (the Dems has to scrutinize everything very closely) to spin it to McCain. Unbelievable.

That's just incredible. I wonder if she were a Democrat what would be the media response? <_<

And a couple of observations. I was having lunch with some friends yesterday and the subject of the election came up. One of my dear friends, whom I love very much, has never been one to get too involved in politics.. but she does vote. The problem is, her vote is easily swayed by the propaganda like this lipstick bullshit. Generally, she's very smart but if she can be swayed by this stuff, anyone can.

She said she didn't know who she was going to vote for, but if Obama got it he was going to appeal the right to bear arms and guns would be illegal. I had to laugh! Her boyfriend and his father feel this same way. She then said she "saw it on a bulletin board". I asked her where....and she said.....at a gun show!!! I couldn't believe it. So I did inform her that when Clinton was the Prez, the only gun laws he got through was the Brady Bill that effectively got assault rifles off the street. And they should be. There is no reason to have an AK-47 in your house. You certainly aren't going to go hunting with it. The only purpose for those weapons is to kill.....people.

And a big issue here in Florida is adoption and foster care for gay people. Not sure if you all are aware, but thanks to the Orange Juice queen Anita Bryant, gays and lesbians were outlawed from adopting or being foster parents. She lead the way on this in the 70s. Well, there's some good news on that here:

What are y'alls thoughts on these issues?

In the MSNBC article to which Roman posted a link yesterday, Howard Fineman said that Obama should have taken McCain up on his townhall meetings request because it would have given Obama the opportunity to respond to McCain's ad. Well, as it turns out, the reason McCain is running those types of ads is as punishment for Obama not going with his townhall meetings, or so he implies. He amazingly tries to make out as if dirty campaigns are such a terrible thing (one wouldn't guess that he was indeed running one) and how it all could have been avoided if Sen. Obama had agreed to townhall meetings.

When wanting to educate youngsters on what constitutes inappropriate touching becomes a perverse thing and you essentially try to paint someone as akin to a pedophile because of it, then there isn't much to be said. He's a foreign, exotic, sexist pedophile......not one of us.....but they can't run the he's got a black baby ad.....

I hear ya.

Wales, Roman....I don't know. Is it me or is the tide turning, much like in 2000 and 2004? :(:( I'm just getting a bad feeling about this. When the issues don't get discussed by the MSM (on which most of Americans agree with Democrats) and the campaign is reduced to sound bites, you know what that means. :(

This election is so stupid and the fact that the American people buy so much of it is pathetic. The lipstick remark should have sent signals about the campaign. It's not only McCain's sorry campaign, but also this election is really reflecting poorly on American electoral institutions, particularly the media. The obsession with Palin is so media-driven. I was stunned that CNN actually did something on her landing in Alaska. WTF?

Biden has a child going to Iraq. Are they going to cover that? Probably not. It is really very said.

Adam, some did.

I watch Morning Joe this AM, and you would think it was a bash session on how Obama responded to McCain and how great McCain's campaign is over the fact of what day it is. Mike Barnicle actually said Obama did not respond forcefully enough.

Sad. Very sad.

I think more people are going to be VERY surprised by the outcome on November 4th. No one is talking about the youg vote. Obama has really reached out to younger voters. He is their champion. If they turn out in droves........

McCain will not be happy.

They are appealing to certain voter's instincts. They know some people base their vote off of stuff like this. No informed opinion on the issues, but comments that have nothing to do with campaigning.

And the MSM have dropped the ball. Instead of the tv media demanding to know why their is no discussion of plans from the McCain campaign, they feed into this mess.

And what I was saying was that Obama has a much better chance than many outside of Missouri think. HRC was slated to win Missouri during the primaries, and was also polling about the same amount thatMcCain is polling at now.

She lost Missouri.

    • Speculation about Missy Reeves' potential evolution on basic civil rights doesn’t change my opinion of her. My view is shaped entirely by her public social media presence—which I find unpalatable—and I have no interest in learning more beyond that. I simply liked Jennifer’s hair and dress. That’s as far as my admiration goes.

    • Cheryl was gone before Lemay came back but I agree with your thinking that he would rather a character from a family he introduced to the show than a family he did not originate.  I remember reading somewhere in the early 90's probably after DS left as writer, their was an either a writer or a producer who made a comment that their intent was bring the McKinnon family back to AW.  Would have made sense for the newer viewers from the 80's.  Much like Lemay's attempt to bring the Frames back from his writing in the 70's in his 1988 return
    • DePriest left in January 1988. According to the AWHP, Rose last appeared nearly a year before in February 1987 while both Sara and Peggy appeared as late as October 1987.
    • Annie was not brought in as an antagonist for Reva. Reva wasn’t even on the canvas when Annie first appeared in late 1994.
    • The speculation……….very entertaining.
    • I had forgotten that several Days stars came out strong against Melissa. Good for them!
    • That would have made sense. Did all these characters get dropped when DePriest left or had they already been dropped?
    • The other issue with Missy: in June 2020, she "liked" some social media posts by Candace Owens -- things Candace said that were against Black Lives Matter.  That is described here https://tvline.com/news/melissa-reeves-racism-days-of-our-lives-instagram-controversy-2894568/ I don't know if that was ever resolved.
    • She appeared onscreen not long after Rose Livingston and Sara Montaigne, and we found out that Sara was Rose's estranged daughter. I wonder whether Peggy might have been part of that family group -- or else they were just juggling a few different potential mysteries so that they could develop whatever seemed to be getting the best response from the audience. They didn't do anything much with Rose and Sara really either. Maybe Rose would have become more prominent if Rachel and Mac had split up over Mitch, or if Sara had really flourished. In some ways I can picture Cheryl being affected by MJ's prostitution similarly to how Josie was distressed by finding out about Sharlene. But I can also see that Josie as a Frame being involved with Matthew would have different stakes for Rachel and Sharlene than Cheryl being involved with Scott. I do think the solution for Cheryl would have had to be a badder boy than Scott -- either a real bad boy who would do her wrong, or the kind of bad boy (not Chad!!!) who is essentially misunderstood and other people just don't understand. Cheryl would also have been better off with some friends her own age. Matthew and Josie benefited a bit from having other teenagers to interact with.
