Members Chris B
I'm not looking forward to Marla Kanalos on Y&R. All of these LML writers coming back is worrying because the show really isn't that great to begin with. Even without LML they need a cast revamp worse than Guiding Light and are still misusing so many great talents. Why do newbies and lightweights like Cane, Lily, Chloe, Sabrina and Adam have more screentime than Neil, Paul, Brad and Jill? Instead of bringing on this HORRIBLE new character for Victor, why not bring back Lorie or Ashley or pair him with Jill as suggested in CBS' fan panel? There seems to be too many newbies although they are paired with established characters. The only one I enjoy is Adam due to his core connections. Chloe would be genius if she were Kate Valentine. Then Jill would have a firm reason to dislike her, as opposed to pimping Lily. Another thing I wondered is if MAB is better suited for a half hour show? The show seems awfully padded with filler for an hour show with so many backburnered characters. Of course she still isn't listed as HW so maybe I should be patient and wait, but I'm not seeing greatness so far. If this is how Y&R becomes--focused mainly on these characters, it'll suck. I know Sylph will spank me for this, but I truly believe that Kay Alden could get Y&R back on track. She understands the history and did a good job of taking over for Bill Bell initially. i understand her B&B stint hasn't been completely successful, but look what she had to work with. I believe she's just following Brad's story bible or what she thinks his twisted mind would've wanted. MAB is going to need co-HW like her, not a Scott Hamner. I hope that Frons is kicking himself in the ass for not taking on Alden for AMC. Maybe I have rose-colored glasses, but I think she would've taken AMC to heights we haven't seen in years, and made the show somewhat recognizable, relevant, and enjoyable again. I could see her consulting with Agnes about the show's history and what really needs to be done to get things back on track. I really think she could've done wonders working of course within Frons' narrow agenda of having Ryan, Greenlee, Kendall, and Zach at the forefront by giving those characters some much-needed depth. But it looks like theres' too much bad blood for her to ever come to AMC. It's a damn shame, really.
Members DaytimeFan
I'm still reserving judgement about MAB, her solo stuff hasn't yet aired. I do agree, however, that Kay Alden is needed at Y&R, even as a consulting producer, just SOMETHING. She understands the Bill Bell vision better than anyone. Members Steve
I wear the same glasses when it comes to Alden! She could added so much depth in the short time she was consulting that I think she could have restored AMC to its former glory.
Members R Sinclair
I, too, was disappointed when I learned ABCD had passed on Kay Alden. It was her lecture that really made me think she would've been a great person to clean up the mess that McTavish had made of AMC. It's ironic that she spoke about all the "events" that had been written on AMC over the last several years and the viewers needed a rest from all of that, and then what happens? She doesn't get the job, Jim and Babs do, and we get CRASH!

Members skiman12082004
Hey Toups FYI not sure if you already know this, but I was at the Bold & Beautiful website and its posted that Jack Smith is a writer for the show again. Also, Rex Best was not listed anymore.
Administrator Toups Posted April 12, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted April 12, 2008 Interesting! It looks like Jack will be writing scripts. Also, Elizabeth Snyder is no longer an associate head writer and she's back to story consultant again. Maybe Rex is going back to Y&R?
Members MarkH
Dear God in Heaven! I need some stability back on my Bell soaps. I didn't like the Jack Smith era on B&B. But SOMEthing has to rescue that show!
Members Chris B
Brad Bell needs all the help he can get so I hope Jack Smith works out okay.
Members sheilaforever
Ha - I knew it. Of course I'm not accusing anyone of scabbing BUT (LOL) this is confirmation form my huntch - which I expressed many months ago - that Jack Smith wrote most or nearly all dialogue during the strike with a little hand-in-hand with Alden. The dialogue did include simply too many past references for just someone to spit scripts. I guess Smith is also responsible for the darker of B&B these days... And I expect Rex M. Best to pop at Y&R any day. Interestingly enough he was considered one of Brad's livers (according to Patrick Mulcahey) so I'm really surprised that he left B&B instead of Janice Ferri Esser who is rather new with the show... Members Sylph
QUOTE (Chris B @ Apr 11 2008, 07:50 PM) I know Sylph will spank me for this, but I truly believe that Kay Alden could get Y&R back on track. She understands the history and did a good job of taking over for Bill Bell initially. No, I won't spank you! People have this erroneous idea that I loathe the woman almost as much as I do Lynn Latham. But that's not true. I just don't think she has anything to offer to any of the Bell soaps (B&B now is a wreck as far as I'm concerned; sure, it's megamiles better than most shows, but that doesn't mean it's not bad). I just believe she is drained, exhausted, she offered all she could offer and a job over at ABC could have done miracles for her. She certainly would be a very nice fit for AMC and I was saying that long, long before she was sacked from Y&R and the interview with Sam Ford. Still, there is a worm of doubt in me considering she trained with Bill for 30 years or so and wrote dreadful stuff. And is still writing it. Look at B&B. As if she hasn't learnt a thing! I also didn't like her comments about Bradley Bell, who I adore no matter what he does (so no one touches Brad! ), and I have a weird feeling she's sort of neurotic a bit. Also, I hated the comment about her heiress at Y&R. Bottom line, I think she would be a pretty good fit for AMC.
Members Sylph
As far as she is concerned – I feel bad for dismissing her the moment Toups said she got hired. I mean, I don't like her scripts, but at the same time her whole situation can't leave a normal person indifferent. So, I'm willing to give her a chance somewhat even though I don't believe she would be a nice fit. We shall see.
Members NYC123
I hope Marla does good. She has worked on Y&R back in the 1990's
Members DaytimeFan
Even though she was hired by LML, I hope Marla does good too! She's got a very sympathetic personal story, I would like to think that she'll make a success of herself on Y&R.
