Welcome_to_Llanview.jpg
Welcome to the One Life to Live Discussion Thread for the week of November 12th, 2007. It looks to be a great week this week, as Viki's world closes in on her, and she is on a crash course with half of Llanview. Hope you enjoy your visit and are prepared to discuss the interworkings of Llanview, PA and OLTL. If so, then you're in the right place. So let the discussion of the good, bad, and ugly that is Llanview, Pennsylvania & One Life to Live begin...

Good show today. The will reading was good. I liked everyone's reaction to the new buchannan.

Poor story point having John run back to Llanview because of Marty, though. He promised Mike he would get Marcie.

Liked Todd and Blairs interaction today too.

Another great episode. I haven't heard such great dialogue as the Viki/Charlie scenes in YEARS. That was phenomenal. Carlotta and the teens was very good and self-aware, and the rest of the will reading was great.

Gigi and her son Shane are a compelling pair of characters. She's just a decent woman trying to get by, it's refreshing. I can't wait to see her integrated with the rest of Llanview.

I hated that I was only able to catch the first half of today's 11/13 show. However I have to comment on yesterday's show:

Loved Charlie and Viki's date. You do not see these kind of scenes on soaps today.

Ooooh Charlie is looking for his son. This story has gotten even more inetresting.

I agree that Gigi and her son are a compelling pair of characters.

Loving Asa's will reading. Loving David and Alex.

The only irritation for me on OLTL next to the actor's portrayl of Cole, is Starr. Everythng else is good.

Good show today!!! I was very moved when Asa said goodbye to the Buchs :( And props for remembering to mention C.J.

I agree with the other posters regarding Viki and Charlie. Those were very quiet, compelling scenes. And LOL at Dorian saying to David (about Alex): "You married that creature?"

Oh gosh, I am totally head over heels for Viki and Charlie. They are like a breath of fresh air and I cannot wait to watch their relationship develop more and more. Their date was so sweet and quite romantic.

Loved the Buch's together and their toasting Asa. Now if they would only show all of them having to work together, I think that could be some of the funnies scenes ever. LOL.

I actually enjoyed the Gigi and Marcie stuff today (and I haven't been liking Marcie at all) but they were pretty good.

The only thing I could have done without is Starr's whining. It was nice to see Carlotta there to take care of things.

Can't wait to see this Viki, David, Dorian and Alex stuff tomorrow at the cafe'.

LOL. So what was your story about Addy, now you have me wondering!

As for OLTL this week, Monday was good, Tuesday was excellent, Wednesday looks hopeful.

The will reading with Asa making all of them keep BE afloat is so GENIUS! The tv turning off as Asa's goodbye and the toast were perfect.

Alex/David/Dorain were funny.

Gigi and her son are cute, finally getting a little more info on her past.

Viki and Charlie were sweet for an older couple.

Carlotta was great with the teens, I enjoy how this writer is integrating all characters on the show.

Now, I just hope the ratings reflect how decent and consistent OLTL is getting. :)

    • No. Ruth had an extramarital affair with David while married to Joe.
    • I'm not sure I agree with Bernstein's children on that. Bernstein's life and activism here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Bernstein#Social_activism_and_humanitarian_efforts
    • Thursday & Friday's episodes were excellent. The build-up was most definitely worth the wait (2 months). TMG, I can't give her enough accolades. AM, was also absolutely incredible. I think the fallout is going to have a ripple effect. The little clues that have been dropped,  hopefully, will weave seamlessly to reveal even bigger bombshells for the Dupree's and Martin.
    • Thanks, msn drives me nuts on the one hand but on the other hand their headlines appeal to me. And, I just don't do FoxNews.
    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archived copy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
    • I said this on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago, so perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. In addition, Leslie did say she grew up listening to The Articulettes too.
