Why are DAYS' ratings so low? Simple. The stories stink, the actors (well, not ALL the actors) are worse, and the wrong characters are on the front burner.

Any more questions?

The ratings are in the toilet because the Demons that be can't seem to ever get their act together and get their head of their...well. But Ed Scott's certainly made it smell better than usual  Soaps can not succeed with narrow focus. That's not what the audience was built on. Now, while this past week may have been gold, I certainly haven't been singing praises for a while now. The stories have just been BAD, IMO. Insulting to long-term audience. A half-assed bone of history once a week doesn't equate doing your homework. Hogan needs a Sheri Anderson type co-head. Someone to reel him in. All this, and I still prefer him over Reilly. But what can I say, I've got a Democratic way of thinking. A better writer doesn't make a great show unless he actually looks like he's trying.

sorry i disagree, james Scott is the greatest Actor in the world and Steve Burton is a close second. Both have amazing chemistry with their leading ladys.

James Scott has fantastic chemistry with Allison Sweeney, they sizzle on screen.

and Jason Morgan has amazing chemistry with Rebecca Herbst(Liz) and Kelly Monaco(Sam McCall)

The ratings are low because I feel the slow movement in the EJami story ESPECIALLY when they are on all the time and the show focused around them. The younger set probably factors into it a little, but barely now since they aren't on too much anymore and they have good portrayers for the most part(except Jett but he's been backburned thank the heavens).

However....the ratings have been falling for years. And I mean *years*. So many people have contributed to it, especially Ken Corday. Honestly as rocking as the eighties were that's when it all started, when suddenly Bo, Hope, and the new characters(who are considered vets now) were shoved to the frontburner and we never saw people like Doug and Julie in stories. Marlena was obviously a fan favorite, but I know fans were even upset back then about Bope and such.

That was when it all began, IMO. I enjoyed the eighties except I am not a huge fan of Bo and Hope but still I think it all started then. It just continued on to fall as the nineties approached, I think even though alot tuned in alot tuned out with Reilly. He changed Days, even though I did like his first run, but the problem was going on before him, IMO. He only made it more noticable. And then it just got even WORSE with Langan several years after Reilly quit, when the Saved by the Bell crap happened.

Then later on Higley happened which just made things horrible, and Reilly's second run. Then Hogan came and later on the vets were backburned, and were not in stories and are not.

Its just a combination of what has happened for the past 20+ years, it's been taking it's toll for a long time and now the huge toll has finally been taken.

    • What was most frustrating, is that RTPP was weakly written at the beginning and remained tedious for what seemed months on end. Then, in its last stretch, it suddenly perked right up and turned itself around significantly. Unfortunately, by that time NBC was fully committed to How to Survive a Marriage, and went ahead and cancelled the flourishing RTPP in favor of HTSAM.  Ironically, history repeated itself. HTSAM was dreadfully written in its opening months. NBC fairly quickly gave up on it and changed its time slot to compete with the ratings powerhouse ATWT. Wouldn't you know it, NBC hired Rick Edelstein to take over the writing reigns and the quality soared. It turned into a rich, layered, deep psychological drama along the lines of Harding Lemay's Another World. Alas, NBC axed this newly-shining soap too.

    • 100% this. Murder, She Wrote deserved to have a proper final season farewell on Angela Lansbury's terms after all she did for CBS primetime. Sadly Les Moonves denied us this. In a way Angela did call everyone out through the episodes that shaded both Friends and CBS.  Angela did not give a f--- about being elegant and classy with her shade. She was hurt and rightfully so and I don't blame her for reacting the way she did. It was difficult to watch when Angela tore up and it made me sad and angry.
    • I have a long-time friend with whom I used to watch soaps religiously when we were kids. When I told him about SON recently, I suggested that he jump into the forums so he could join the discussions about vintage daytime TV. He was incredulous that this TGL thread alone was up to a whopping 1183 pages. He asked, "How much can anyone even talk about a long-cancelled soap that much?!?" Then I reminded him that he has brought up the topic of The Guiding Light EVERY SINGLE TIME he has phoned me in the last 50 years!

So, he became sheepish and embarrassed, but relieved to know he's not alone in is undying love for his favorite show. TGL community rocks!
    • B&B is flailing along with one pointless plot after another. I could care less Liam is "dying". Having Sheila suddenly become Mother Theresa is ridiculous and they are obviously painting Luna into a corner which is stupid. Why get her pardoned only to have her basically repeat the same thing? I just don't get it. I love the location shoots, but why bring back Nick, without Jack??? B&B needs to build the next generation because it's just stale at this point and that makes me sad.
    • For novelizations that were promoted as being "based on the actual scripts," the Soaps & Serials books were weakly written, missing major details, and didn't really adhere to the source material. I bought them all when the company lunched, but was quickly disappointed by what I was reading. I wasn't surprised when S&S folded. I sold all my copies on eBay.
    • Did they show Nina telling Ric about the Sasha secret, or did that happen off-camera? I was surprised at the curves they were having Emma show today in her bikini!
    • LOL...I was going to say there were a couple of times Vanessa just wailed on him. it was some time after he left her at the altar, and she says something like "that felt good...I'd like to do it again!" Jordan must've embraced the physicality, because he's always doing something.
    • New episode on Memorial Day. I wonder if it will happen again on the 4th of July. Maybe there's a Canadian national holiday coming up soon where they will preempt BTG so that it lines up with the US again. I don't know if Canadian TV is similar to the US in that regard.  I need the Articulettes to align sonically with Labelle, just because I need this group to have their own group hit a la Lady Marmalade and I need Anita to be up there giving us some New Attitude. Not that I think we will actually get some music, but I would live for this.
    • Thank You Very much for these and the episodes of Berrenger's!!!
