Writer's Strike Thread

I looked at her profile at Wiki. She seems to have an extensive resume. She use to do entertainment news for the LA times. She also worked for AP a long time ago as foreign correspondent. And Newsweek. She has also done work for several other respected publications. With her credentials, she seems like a person who would have a lot of reliable sources.

AMC Zendall Fan, thanks for that article! It doesn't get more respectable than Michael Logan, so I'll take it! I just wonder WHY they're firing her? I just knew we'd be stuck with her for another two or three years. Let's just hope they don't foolishly replace her with more new blood.

But what old blood can they replace her with? I don't think Jack F. Smith would want to return and I'm pretty sure David Shaughnessy is content with only occasionally directing for B&B. I'm also quite sure Kay Alden is happy at B&B too, but she lives in Chicago and can't produce for the show.

If anything, Y&R will have to get a new EP and how to god they can get any pf their old writer's back.

If LML is gone, I really hope they get Jack Smith or KA back. It scares me to think of another new writer coming in. If Y&R is unrecognizable to some now, I can only imagine what would happen if we get another new person in there.

Good news about the possible deal. Losing the rest of the TV season would (will) suck.

Yup, where there's smoke, there's fire. Buh Bye Latham. :)

CBS/Sony haven't been happy with Latham for months now. Case in the point: the week Y&R shut down this past summer. Soaps just don't shut down out of nowhere.

I don't trust Josh Griffith as new HW since he was part of LML's team. I think they were keeping the fired Y&R staff in the fold just in case LML didn't work out. I certainly wouldn't want to lose KA at B&B, but there are lots of former Y&R writers unemployed.

We know Jack Smith was offered a HW position at B&B, but turned it down in favor of the ABC deal. Since that went nowhere, he has no options if they offer him the gig at Y&R. If the B&B staff stayed the same, he could bring back people like Trent Jones, Joshua McCafferty, Jim Houghton, etc. to round out his writing staff/

I just don't want a completely new writer because it'll probably be Megan McTavish, or someone at her level. If they thought LML turning Y&R into a new show was a good idea, there's no telling what they'll do next.

With Ed Scott unavailable, I would hope they'd be smart enough to get Shaughnessy back. It's not like he's busy. I do agree with you about Jack Smith, Kay Alden actually held Bill Bell's ratings well. It was Smith who started the decline. Still, at this point I'd take him over LML. I think he's a better fit at B&B and could work on a soap like DAYS or GH, just not Y&R (as HW).

My main worry is about KA leaving B&B. Of course she'll work wonders at Y&R (again) like she is doing at B&B and would've done at AMC. But what will happen to B&B? I highly doubt Brad Bell, the most unimaginative writer in daytime history, is responsible for anything working on B&B now. The extreme balance, fresh stories, things actually progressing--that is the exact opposite of Brad's B&B. Maybe if they let him keep the two ex-Y&R writers as story consultants, it could help the show. Or they could always ask Smith again if he's interested in a return.

Frankly, I think this is why Bradley Bell hired Kay Alden to work on B&B in the first place. Latham's exit - if, indeed, the news is true - probably was some time in the planning, and the Bell family reasoned it would be easier simply to "transfer" Alden back to Y&R, rather than try to lure her away from another, non-Bell-produced soap. Plus, despite the rumors several years ago that Alden and Papa Bell's sons didn't exactly see eye-to-eye on Y&R's direction, I think if they had any brains at all, they have to admit to themselves that it takes a special kind of talent to write a show like Y&R; and that, like her or not, Alden "gets" Y&R better than anyone else.
