As the World Turns - 40 th Anniversary

What other episodes can you recall that commerated anniversaries,episode milestones or celebrated particular actors tenure with the show?

Did the older shows (ATWT,SFT,LOL etc)celebrate 10th,20th anniverseries etc

For General Hospital's 40th Anniversary, the dropped Rachel Ames from contract. Does that count?

B&B had their special 5000th episode recently with the original cast members Eric, Stephanie, Ridge and Brooke hashing over old times at the cabin in Big Bear. I seem to remember some occasion for their 4000th but have a horrible feeling it was something to do with Amber and her Telesave scheme which obviously is what everyone was watching for at the time and really represented what the show is about.

I have a hazy memory of an event for the 2000th (?) episode? It was around the time that Ridge was blinded by that exploding microwave thing, Taylor was at his bedside dressed as Velma from Scooby Doo and Sheila was about to hold James in her dungeon.

As for overseas shows

Neighbours

-Episode 1000 (1989): Hilary introduces her long lost son Matt to her family

-Episode 2000 (1993): A birthday party is thrown for Helen with her grandchildren Paul and Lucy returning. It coincided with the Waterhole reopening after the explosion.

-Episode 3000 (1998): Nada. I think Susan washed her car. The producers really weren't bothered.

-Episode 4000 (2002): Rosie's church burnt down. Very festive.

-20th anniversary (2005): Annalise returned to do a documentary on Ramsay Street with loads and loads of old faces returning. It coincided with Karl finding out the truth about Izzy's baby scam.

-Episode 5000 (2006): Rob trapped his father Paul in a mineshaft and caused a landslide to try and kill him.

Home and Away

-Episode 4000 (2006): Sally threw a surprise birthday party for Alf with loads of old faces returning. Unfortunately one of them, Chloe, was killed off in a car crash at the end of the episode.

EastEnders

-20th anniversary (2005): I believe this was the proud moment when Chrissy Watts killed her husband with a dog shaped doorstop in a special one hour episode.

There was another milestone that was marked by people being holed up in the Vic reminiscing about the war and suchlike. I don't remember when it was.

Coronation Street

-40th anniversary (2000). Marked by a special live episode that was full of fluffed lines and bloopers.

For GH's 10,000 show in 2002, they celebrated Audrey's 10,000th day working at GH.

ATWT did a fine job of using history for its grande dames to shine during a special event honoring Nancy Hughes on the show's 50th anniversary. Unfortunately the male veterans didn't get the same treatment, and had to participate in a companion episode of bad classic television spoofs. The 30th Anniversary was actually a celebration of Chris and Nancy's 50th wedding anniversary.

For it's 40th year on tv in 1992, GL did the Springfield blackout and a prime time special.

I thought GL celebrated it's 55th Anniversary since their premiere and not the 40 years on television in 1992? GL's anniversaries always confuses me. They have two to celebrate. Debut on radio and on television.

Anyways GL did do a blackout in 1992 and a primetime special.

1997 was a big year for the show as they celebrated their 60th Anniversary since their debut on radio. Many characters had been brought back to the show months before and the show celebrated by throwing a major event honoring Cedars Hospital.

In 1987 GL celebrated by throwing a party for The Journal's Anniversary if I'm correct. It was also the first year of the Bauer BBQ.

In 2002 Guiding Light celebrated 50 years on television by having Josh and Reva get married. Originally the Lighthouse Gala was supposed to occur on the day but sadly Mary Stuart died(whose character was planning the party) and the show had a change of Head Writers. The show also got a new opening.

In 2007 the show celebrated 70 years on television by telling the story of Irna Phillips, the show's creator.

When the show celebrated it's 15,000th episode it did a wacky special episode.

Hmm how has DAYS celebrated their anniversaries?

The last anniversary that days celebrated didn't they have Jennifer, Hope and Julie put together an video family tree for Alice. I seem to remember them showing a whole bunch of clips from the past while they were going over the pictures.

Days' 25th everyone was stuck in rubble trying to escape from Lawrence Alamain, and they all paused to reminisce flashback style.

Days' 40th was a storm, the night Jack went off the bridge in his car. Everyone was reminiscing with photo albums which went into flashbacks, I think Maggie and Mickey started the ep off.

Another World celebrated their 25th with the 25th anniversary of Cory Publishing.

Sadly,Douglass Watson died around this time and Mac Cory was not present.

Many past actors returned.

One thing I remember that was annoying was Rachel giving a speech about Brava magazine and how it reflected the times.In the background were mock up covers including one of the moon landing.

But Brava was introduced in 1980 by Pat Randolph as a magazine for working mothers!

Also,the show did a 25 th for Victoria Wyndham in 97 that showed flashbacks of her portrayal of Rachel.

I completely forgot about ATWT celebrating Don Hastings and Eileen Fulton's 40 years as Bob and Lisa in 2000:

For AMC's 20th anniversary in 1990, they had standalone episode in which the 5 remaining original cast members (Ray MacDonnell, Mary Fickett, Ruth Warrick, Susan Lucci, Frances Heflin) gathered in the Martin living room to reminisce about the previous 20 years. I think at the end of the episode, Ray MacDonnell came out of character to thank the viewers for the past 20 years. I believe Agnes Nixon penned this episode, which also coincided with Agnes' and Wisner Washam's returns as headwriters.

For Kathryn Hay's 25th anni as Kim,Gillian Spencer returned as the spirit of her sister Jennifer and flashbacks were shown.

AW did a tribute to Victoria Wyndham for 25 years as Rachel.

Search did commerorate it's 35 years with a flashback show.
