WTF is going on with this Konta match? Serena is getting destroyed. Is she injured?

This might be the worst match of Serena’s entire career. She looks near tears. The entire crowd seems shellshocked.

Yeah, something’s not right with Serena. Konta didn’t even celebrate because she can’t take pride in that victory.

Something clearly wasn't right, either physically or mentally.

I did wonder whether this news item played into her state in this match though.

That came up for me when I did a search on Serena too. I do wonder...

She did press afterwards, but that would be a tough topic to broach. This quote is telling, though:

The British press is being obnoxious about Konta’s win. They are the worst. They are in for a rude awakening when an in-form, dialed-in Serena spanks that ass as she did in Melbourne last year.

Serena could be 70 with one leg and, for some, it still would be a huge victory to some!

Very few in the tennis press have acknowledged that story as a possible factor in Serena’s loss. I really hate the media.

Of course not and you know Mary Carillo most definitely has a lady boner after that crushing loss.  Queen constantly going thru stuff, and it has to be super tough doing it publicly.  The news blasting the info about her sister's killer?  Even tho he was released in March, seeing it everywhere now is something Queen has to go thru all over again!

WTA was truly a stronger product when it had at least a few events on network broadcast TV in America.

Well, maybe after Les Moonves tanks CBS with his ever growing scandals, there might be room for better negotiations to begin to bring some matches back to network TV.  Who knows?

In terms of Serena's loss, in her interview, she stated that she tried her best and her opponent played well.  She also said she had too many things on her mind right now to be pressed about this loss.

The press is suddenly shy about bringing up this personal situation likely, after badgering Venus about the tragic car accident last year.

I miss the US Open on CBS. There was more tennis and less fluff talk. Gawd ESPN is just horrible with meaningless chat about nothing instead of showing matches at the majors. Wimbledon was so much better when it was on NBC/HBO.

I don't think any of us here can be disappointed about beIN because we didn't get much of anything from that chitty network in regards to WTA.  That network was more committed to 5 year olds playing baseball than it ever was to WTA, and at times when they could have repeated a match, it was either a very long advertisement of another sport or ATP stuff.  Huge disappointment that WTA wasn't treated better and I hope Simon is out of what's left of the WTA!
