DAYS: Friday's Episode

I thought I heard that John said something that indicated he was suspicious of "Tony".

Personally, I hate that. Stefano's obsession with Marlena was there from the 80s Stefano, and it was one of his redeeming qualities. The other being his love for his children.

Nick and Chelsea are boring me to tears right now. And I hate it. What was so unique about them is just gone. Makes me sad. Now it's all about who gets to be the bitch that day.

What did John & Marlena do to upset you this time? Act happy? And wow, thank you. Nice to know you just want me to disappear. They're on what - once a week, minimal airtime and don't have a storyline. How nice that you can't actually allow a fanbase that's been around for 21 years to enjoy the few moments the actors are able to create. It's certainly not in the script, and after years of him working against us, just let us enjoy it.

Fantastic episode today. One of the best for a week that has been okay so to say.

I might be in the minority, but today I really enjoyed the stuff involving Las Vegas. The story is growing on me, and we're seeing different sides to Jeremy and Stephanie lately. Of course they're still my least favorite characters on the show.

I was so happy to see EJ and Lucas working together to find Sami. That's soemthing I thought would never happen, but it did!

What a nice twist, the "Tony" we saw today was Andre, according to the previews.

I just want to say thanks for all the input on today's show as we here in Phoenix didn't get Days due to a horrendous news helicopter crash that killed all four people on board the two helicopters. Sometimes life is more important than a soap opera.

I heard that on the news, too and feel so sad for everyone involved. It is a horrific tragedy.

I don't think the writing for Chelsea and Nick is all that bad. Nick and Chelsea are still on our screen and there is a bit of angst going on here. Actually, I think there should be years before they get really serious. It's like Chelsea said...she needs to finish college, get a career, learn about life first. Nick needs allow her to do that with his blessings.

For the poor J&M fans, I just don't enjoy porno so their constantly referring to each other as sex toys insults my priorities in relationships. Gross.

I really don't care whether or not you like J&M, but I don't like being told to disappear. As for them referring to each other as sex partners(and I no way agree that it's the top priority in their relationship), that's all I've seen the TSK crew do and talk about....constantly. Bope have had their share of sex talk recently too, but of course that's "cute". J&M are lucky if Sheffer gives them two minutes of screen time talking to each other (versus just propping every other story), so as a J&M fan, I at least have something to look forward to in those fleeting moments.

Chelsea is being taken back to where she was pre-Nick, and I hate it. She was spunky but still trying to be good when she first fell for Nick, and Nick was himself. I don't have as much a problem with Nick as I do Chelsea.

I don't enjoy porno either, thank you very much. They referred to each other as sex toys? When? That's not the Days Of Our Lives I'm watching. They're two happily in love people, who have just been kept apart for months, they have a healthy desire for each other and they're adorable together.

I don't mind J&M at all when Dee doesn't make those annoying noises and when Drake doesn't overplay it. Carolyn Hinsey made mention of it in her SOD column that J&M need to be onscreen but that all the sex sounds are making her sick of them. I love J&M too and I want them to be loving but I think Dee and Drake need to tone it down a bit. I also didn't like how Marlena went from worried about Sami to being all passionate with John and following him to his car for a quickie like nothing ever happened. That was a writer's mistake but I am surprised Dee and Drake didn't say something because it was odd and out of character IMO.

Whatever the case, part of me still likes Marlena without John but I still like them together and recognize their importance. The way they acted last Thursday and Friday was perfect but yesterday was way too much IMO.

I don't see what was wrong about it. They'd found where Sami was, John had done a good thing and she wanted to let him know how wonderful she thought he was. And there was nothing said about a quickie in the car. There were no "noises" in the scene. They came through an angst filled time worrying about Sami, didn't have to worry anymore and share a few quick kisses.

I used to be one of Deidre Hall's biggest fans, but ever since the SSK SL in 2003 she has been just an average actress IMO. Her constant hamming of scenes and acting like a hug from John gives her an orgasm drives me up the wall. No way acts like that in real life, much less a couple who has been together for as long as J&M have.

The know where Sami is but is she back yet? No. As far as Marlena knows, she is still in danger so her being all lovey-dovey with John is out of character. There were noises too. Not as much as usual but they were there. John told Marlena to "save it for the car" which IMO implies he wants a quickie. I don't mind them being affectionate or loving. I want them to be. I just want them both to turn it down a notch and for Dee and Drake to stop overacting, which KBT alluded to. They are better then this. I know they are. It's not the writing either. Last Fall, they still did the same things at times only not as much. They just need to tone it down. That's all I am saying.

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.
