Canada. Right now, Claire has just entered the psychiatric ward; Bev & Fred (yes, I know ) are in the midst of wedding plans; Shelley has just returned for a visit and word has gotten out that she's pregnant with Charlie's child. Tracy's just found out and after a confrontation, is starting to realize what a cad Charlie really is.

Hard to say who my favourite is. Love Blanche, Deidre, Ken, Audrey, the Duckworths. Sally and Gail bug me to no end but I'd miss them if they weren't there. Alma used to be a favourite.

I probably saw her in the 70's but not well enough to remember. Coronation Street was my beloved late Gran's favourite show. Come to think of it, I might have heard my Gran and her sister (a real Blanche type) talking about Ena, but I would have thought she was one of their friends.

A few years ago CBC aired a series of clips shows from old Corrie episodes, so then I finally saw old Ena, hairnet and all, in action. From what I saw, she belongs on your "Gossips" list. The epitome of meddling old battleaxe.

American soaps don't have enough of these meddlesome, gossiping old biddies. It would lighten things up and open up plot possibilities. The few old ladies on American soaps are all nice old grandmotherly types.

And thanks for the list, Andrew. You didn't have to go to the trouble but it was nice of you to do so.

That`s so true, all elderly characters in us soaps, are so nice, in the UK, they sometimes are gossipping witches, and a woman like Ena no american soap have ever seen, that is rather sad. Cheers!!!!!!!!!..........
