DAYS: You were raped? Eh, who cares?

Of COURSE, he's a rapist. To suggest otherwise is ludicrous. He made her have sex with him under duress, in fear that one of her loved ones would die.

The soap genre's history with rape and covering it up to promote some "romance" is not something it should be proud of. It's amoral and an insult to women to have female characters fall in love with their attackers. Luke and Laura be damned. Anyone who has been a victim of a sexual assault knows how traumatic it is. It's not fun, it's not sexy, it's not romantic.

If SON existed back when Sami drugged Austin, I wasn't aware of it. And I have many times complained about Sami never having a lightbulb moment where she realized just how awful her action toward Austin was. One of the reasons I hated the Sami/Austin "romance" was that it was a pairing of rapist and victim.

As for Bo, I don't really care about him as a character and wasn't too into the show at that point in time. But I don't think the show's treatment of that incident was okay, either.

Days is not the first show to handle rape badly. This is not the first time Days has handled rape badly. It was, however, the first time TODAY that Days handled rape badly. That was why I commented, and I don't see how past history of Days or any other soap makes my comments any less valid.

No, in fact, I didn't.

I'm a Lumi fan. I don't deny that. But while I'll tell people what I like about them (sometimes at great length), I have no interest in taking part in a full-blown, name-calling, taunting, poster-baiting, poll-fixing, mailbag-stuffing fanbase war. (But, hey, if that's what some people out there enjoy, more power to you. Variety makes the world go round, and all that.)

I get where EJami fans are coming from, at least some of them. They love James Scott; or love his chemistry with Ali Sweeney; or want a Brady/DiMera fueding families romance; or just want a new couple since many Days couples have onscreen history dating back 10-20-30 years. I don't agree with all of the various EJami fans' various reasons for liking their couple, but the original post was not intended to be some kind of attack on those who still want the couple after the rape.

Quite the contrary. If I had been an EJami fan, I'd have been furious that the rape happened at all and aggravated by the way its being handled. Because if I had been an EJami fan, I would have wanted a character-driven, nuanced story-- not one where such a hideous act was swept under the rug to facilitate a quickie romance. As a Lumi fan, I DID hate the extent to which Lucas' drugging of Sami in Italy was swept under the rug, but at least there I felt like Lucas spent a year in a coma indirectly because of the Italy mess. EJ has had perhaps half a second of regret.

My only point in making the original post was that Days has handled Sami's rape badly.

Days went out of its way to call what EJ did to Sami "rape." Sami called it rape. Lucas called it rape. Nick called it rape. Celeste called it rape. When Ali , James , and Bryan do publicity interviews for the show, they all call it rape.

Fine. If the show wants to do a story where EJ rapes Sami instead of one of the various alternatives-- and it crossed that bridge five months ago-- it shouldn't have the victim's friends/family, including her mother the psychiatrist, blowing off her who's-the-daddy pregnancy like the mildly inconvenient side effect of an affair.

One gasp from Marlena. That's all I'm asking for. She's done it over far lesser things.

For me, it was rape, seeing as though Sami clearly didn't enjoy it and didn't want to do it. Rape is about power, and EJ wanted to be in control of Sami, and have sex with her. The fact that she felt she had to sleep with him because of Lucas, made it all the better for EJ. And it certainly was off the way Sami mentioned EJ possibly being the father of her baby, and Bo, Hope, Marlena, and John shrugged it off, as if it was nothing. Does John even know what happened? At this point in time, EJ should be treated as a rapist, and he's not. Bad writing. Still want EJ and Sami together though :) As for Marlena she has always been a bad mother, so that is nothing new. She has been great buddies with Kate for years, even though Kate has tried to destroy Sami's life numerous times, sent her to death row, and to a lesser extent, tried to destroy Belle.

Her loved ones OR Lucas trapped under a beam???

Let's not re-write this. Sami paid EJ for services rendered...

Please ask yourselves this question... What would have happened if Sami refused?

Answer: Lucas MAY have died, and that is all...

The time spent having sex in that car, depending on EJ's stamina, could have been spent REALLY looking for help. Sami took the easy out, and she paid with the only currency EJ would accept...

Gross.

So, Sami is violated-- for the second time in her life, at that-- and everyone other than Lucas and a few peripheral characters (Celeste, Nick) finds out off screen. They get together at the Pub and discuss the fact that EJ may have fathered her baby with a collective "meh."

Gross.

Sami has become the newest DiMera pawn. All we can do is just enjoy the story the writer's dish out as Ali can make it interesting.

Sami doesn't act like she was raped, which she was, how are we supposed to get that other characters do?

Sami needs to get off that rape thing, and so does some of the audience. You can't re-define a crime because your favorite character is the "victim"... It's offensive to anyone who was actually raped... To date, EJ is NOT a rapist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!END OF STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!FINITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BOTTOM LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honey, I despise the vile character that is Samantha Gene Braddy AKA Scami and I have from day 1. This kind of opinion IMO is why so many rape victims are never heard by the police or never given justice for the trauma they suffered. Sami was raped. EJ had a gun, threatened her, demanded and gave her no choice other than rape or Lucas dies. That is rape. Pure and simple.

So does this mean Marlena wasen't raped? She's my favourite character, but Kellam breaking into her apartment, chasing her into her bedroom and forcing her onto the bed while he forced himself on her makes it not rape?

As for Marlena she has always been a bad mother, so that is nothing new. She has been great buddies with Kate for years, even though Kate has tried to destroy Sami's life numerous times, sent her to death row, and to a lesser extent, tried to destroy Belle.

Which Marlena was never informed about because Sami never told her. "Roman" knew, Marlena didn't. Marlena is buddies with Kate? Could've fooled me with the catfight interrupted at the wedding. And Marlena's the best mother in Salem.

I totally dig what you are saying, and trust me when I say that I share your sentiment on that vile piece of trash, Scami...

I am not saying it was not rape because I loathe that disgusting character. I am saying this because it was not rape. Sami did have a choice. She could either walk away and Lucas possibly dies or she gives EJ what he wants. It is a tough position in which to be, but it is not rape...

There is no law that says EJ has to assist Sami. So rape would only be true if EJ was obligated to help, and he was not...

Yeah, he's a bad samaritan but hardly a rapist...

You are not alone!

There was no crime committed in that car. If EJ is guilty of anything, it's that he is a bad samaritan. He simply wanted payment for providing the help he was not required to give.

EJ didn't have to help Lucas, and Sami did not have to WILLINGLY have sex with the man. She had a choice, and if Lucas had died had she chosen SELF RESPECT first, then so beit. Sami's body was the only currency she had at the time, and she used it.

She was not raped, and we really need to stop this.

Rape victims are not given a choice... Sami had the luxury of a choice and she made yet another bad decision.

Sami is a rapist herself, so she should know that the manure coming out of her mouth is offensive... She took THE choice away from Austin the door knob. EJ did not do that to Sami because again, he was not required to help Lucas - he just asked to be paid.

Sami needs to get off that rape thing, and so does some of the audience. You can't re-define a crime because your favorite character is the "victim"... And I will never get over my disappointment of Hogie trying to redeem that demon and make her a heroine this way. It's appauling. He's a good writer, and I expect better than this from him. Leave this vile sh!t to HackReilly, McTrash or Pigley!

As a rape victim myself, I find this post extremely offensive. When you force someone to have sex, whether physically or psychologically, you demean them and you make them feel the lowest that anyone could possibly feel. Though not shown to the extent of what it should have been, Sami felt like that. It does not MATTER what kind of person she is. She was still manipulated and given no choice but to surrender to EJ's power over her.

If you don't know what a horrific experience being raped is, then I envy you. But do not call something that was obviously such a vile act the opposite of what it was.

The writers say it's rape.

The characters say it's rape.

The actors say it's rape.

Sami had a gun pointed at her from a person who just shot someone. How exactly was she willingly to having sex with EJ and what other choice did she have besides letting Lucas die?

I can't believe Days is still pushing EJami as though they were the next Luke and Laura.

*gags*

The glorfication of rape is not romantic. It's disgusting, negligent and criminal. I have no respect for those who indulge in the practice.

Sami is a former victim of rape. She castrated Alan, but wants to make peace with EJ? Bullsh*t. Her maudlin scenes today at the pub made me cringe. It reminded me why I have no interest in Days at the current moment.

Thank you and Amen. There are many ways to force a sexual assualt. The cavalier attitude towards rape in general is disturbing. These predators don't merely exist in the bushes with ski masks, armed with weapons of force.

If EJ/Sami were like the R. Kelly situation, I could find room to adopt a different perspective. This is an unpopular of mine, but he was a freaky old man with a fast ass girl. They're both wrong. I didn't see the video, but I don't remember a gun being pointed to her head. But I digress.

I really doubt it would be cool in the gang if someone felt an ounce of that pain victims endure and even the survivors. I hate people who lie about being raped and find myself in a wonder over those who take bereft and justifying stances. I pray for the cold wind of karma and I don't care if that makes me a bad person. So be it.

Either way, EJ is nothing but a worthless rapist. He's no better than the monsters in prison.

Also, I believe that Sami is a rapist herself. She drugged Austin for the purposes of sex. Karma. Or just bad soap opera.

As an EJami fan I have been absolutely furious about what happened and I do want a character-driven, nuanced story that addresses the rape (that's why I started writing my own) but if we don't get that I'm not going to hold it against the coupling any more than you are going to hold it against your preferred pairing that they were rushed ridiculously quickly back together after having been with other people.

And we still don't know 100 percent for sure that Days is all done making EJ pay for what happened. Since he raped Sami he has been the subject of a murder plot, sprayed with a fire extinguisher for no reason, been in anguish over the fact that the woman he loves married another man, humiliated when he was punched at their wedding, placed under investigation by the SEC, disowned by his family and marked for death, faced another Salem PD sting operation, etc... Sami is also still saying that she will never get over the fact that he raped her and she never will.

The way I see it for some people there will be nothing that the writers can do to make EJ suffer enough to their satisfaction short of Sami shooting off his balls or finally going through with killing him so there's nothing they can really do to undo what's happened between them. The show just has to try to move forward and hope for the best and that viewers are willing to set aside some things about their history and enjoy the chemistry between the pair the same way viewers like you enjoy Sami and Lucas despite their sordid past.

I think there is still time for EJ and Sami to work out their issues about the rape and for EJ to come to understand the gravity of what happened now that they've started writing him in more than one dimension again.

What was jarring to me as a viewer more than anything was today's episode and the weirdness of everyone finding out about it offscreen and the Salem PD asking her no questions about the rape or the night she was with EJ. Yet even though apparently they did know about the rape, Uncle Bo thought nothing of using Sami as bait yet again for their latest EJ Wells trap when that only fed into EJ's desire for/confusion about her the two previous times the Salem PD pimped her out to help the police take EJ down.

I would have appreciated a scene where not only did they discuss the rape and Sami's feelings about it and why EJ was bad for doing it, but maybe just maybe we got to see Roman or Bo have just one second of regret about the way they put Sami in the crosshairs because they suck so much at solving crimes.

And Marlena's the best mother in Salem.

The best mother in Salem couldn't be bothered to attend, let alone plan her daughter's bridal shower while her archnemesis, Kate, threw her one. LOL. Best mother in Salem is like best mother under DCFS supervision.

How exactly did Ethan rape Sami?

I thought his name was Elvis Jr.

But Lucas' leg was trapped under a beam. Sami went to go get some help, flagging down EJ. She begged for his help, but he only consented on one condition. She had to have sex with him. He was had a gun in her face too. I think the scene might be on youtube.

Ethan? I think you mean EJ? LoL

Anyway, Sami and Lucas had been lovey-dovey at a cabin last December. While at the cabin, the roof caved in on them and a knocked Lucas out. Sami tried to rescue him, but a giant beam was pinning him down and she wasn't strong enough to move the beam... so she ran outside to look for help.

As she went outside for help, none other than Mr. EJ Wells comes driving by. Desperate for help, she hopped in the car and asked for his strength to save Lucas. EJ held a gun on her and told her that he wanted her help escaping Salem (he had just shot John and was fleeing town, so he wanted Sami to drive his getaway car so that police wouldn't notice him or something). Anyway, Sami helped him escape town.

After that, Sami begged EJ to go back and help her save Lucas. EJ told her that he would only help her save Lucas if she let him make love to her right there in the car. He didn't really force her to have sex... he gave her a choice. But untimately, she slept with EJ in order to get his help rescuing Lucas from the cabin.

After the rape/incident/whatever, they went back to the cabin and Lucas was passed out cold. EJ and Sami raised the beam off of him and Sami was later credited as a hero for having such "superhuman strength" to lift the beam off Lucas "by herself."

He didn't tell her that he would shoot her if she didn't have sex with him, though. He only told her that he would shoot her if she didn't help him escape. After she helped him escape the police, he put the gun down, and that's when the rape happened. He never literally forced her or held a gun on her in order for her to have sex with him... he left THAT part a choice. Sami chose to sleep with him to save Lucas's life.
