DAYS: Tanya Boyd upped to Contract Status

Just a little correction to a prior post. Tanya Boyd has been recurring with the show since 1999, I believe. She was on contract when she first came on in 1994, up until '99. After Vivian and Ivan left, Boyd was reduced to recurring where she has been ever since. Well, until now..

I thought it was since 2000? That's when Vivian and Ivan left, not 1999. But still, she's been on recurring for nearly 7 years ... and Tom Langan barely used her as recurring. Brash and Cwickly didn't really use her much either, IIRC. I think it was Reilly who really used her a lot when he came back. I have blocked out Dena Higley's reign of terror so I can't say if she used Celeste or not.

EDIT:

Well, it was almost 2000 ... lol. According to Jason47's page, Boyd started recurring status on December 8th, 1999.

Didn't they create Caprice, or whatever her name was who had a mysterious connection to Celeste?

I hope they don't saddle Celeste with Abe. She needs someone younger. Like EJ or one of the two new guys coming on.

I read somwhere back then that C&B were setting it up so that Caprice and Celeste were sisters?

I know in a post HW interview, Sally Sussman Morina was going to make Lily Faversham and Vivian sisters, but she got canned before it could happen :(

She could've done that story in place of the hideous "mind controlling tooth chip" storyline that they gave Vivian, instead. Perhaps if she'd done it that way, she wouldn't have gotten her boring ass canned.

Nobody can do "Reilly" as good as Reilly. All imitations are just that -- imitations.

The only thing that SSM did well, in my opinion, was the "Crazy Ali" storyline. The rest sucked ass. The "Franco's Murder" storyline was pretty good in the first few months, but then it dragged on and on to the point where I didn't care. And her newbies... OMG, boring! LoL It's pretty pathetic that it took TOM LANGAN, of all people, to make SSM's newbie creations entertaining. Nicole was duller than cardboard. So was her sister, Taylor. So was Brandon. So was Greta. Lily Faversham was alright, but nothing to write home about. She wrote John and Marlena so boringly... did they even have a story of their own under SSM?

Many people forget this, but it was also Sally Sussman Morina who aged Shawn/Belle/Phillip and introduced Mimi/Jan/Jason and the whole "Salem High" teen scene. She wasn't replaced until, like, October/November of 1999, right? That's when Lorraine Broderick came in for a few weeks, then she was canned and Tom Langan took over HW duties. Tom Langan only created Chloe Lane, and even then, I'm pretty sure that Lorraine Broderick takes some of the credit for that.

She did a few things decent, here and there, but what writer doesn't? For the most part, she was a complete snoozer.

B&C actually brought Celeste back sparingly after she was hardly used under Langan. They utiltized her in support of Lexie at the end of the baby switch story and then we began to see hints of her and Caprice being sisters or having a past. I think they were going to be sisters but they dropped it, mostly because B&C were unfairly canned.

I agree with you Kenny completely. SSM did very few things well. The crazy Ali story was good and so were Craig/Nancy. Franco's murder was great until after the execution, where it began to drag with no resolution in sight. She took the outlandish a bit too far in that she went from JER's gothic supernatural to sci-fi crap. The tooth implant story was terrible. I would've gone for Vivian and Lili being sisters (there was a resemblence) but the story we got was hideous. She is the one who made Stefano a regular citizen and bogged him down. The characters introduced under her never got interesting until she left. I beleive SSM only aged Belle but she probably had planned to age the other teens to since Broderick can't be blamed given she was only in the position for like a month before getting canned. SSM also sucked all the life out of the story of Hope and John's past. JER had given very little hints and set the stage for what could've been amazing but she ruined it by making it about mind control and satellites and all that crap. She gave us the neverending Princess Gina story that never got interesting until Langan took a hold of it and salvaged it at the end to give us the baby switch story.

SSM had two positives...Sami's execution and nurse Ali. The rest was just awful and Days's decrease in quality really began during her tenure. Langan started out good but really messed up with the teen invasion in late 2001. I still can't help but think about what could've been if B&C never got demoted. They had Days in 3rd most of the time and regularly challenging for 2nd place and they just "got" the show. Stupidest decision Corday ever made.

I both loved and hated that story.

I loved the setup. However, by this time, I felt as though Eileen Davidson's nineteen characters had worn thin -- even Kristen. Sister Mary Moira was a joke. Susan just got annoying. And even knowing this, SSM decided to create another new character for her to play -- Penelope Kent! I mean, it was just overkill. I felt like she even wrote Kristen badly, because by the time this story came around, Kristen was still obsessed with John and getting her baby back, and it was just a repetitious cycle. I wanted her to move on to something fresh and new before finally leaving, but SSM just kept her in that same holding pattern and the character of Kristen could've done so many different things before ED's final exit, but SSM just wasted her in the same cycles -- JER rehash. That pissed me off.

That aside, the mystery itself was good. It kept me wondering the identity of the murderer -- not to mention who the hell was killed in the first place! LoL But by the time everything was revealed, I felt like it was a total copout. Neither Kristen or Susan had died, but Penelope instead. Oooookay. Some two-day newbie dying is the reason for this entire long-drawn mystery? And not only that, but the killer was EDMUND? Edmund F-ing Crumb?! LoL What a copout, and anticlimactic at that. It just felt like such a waste of time when, in the end, everything was revealed to be caused by two newbies.

The best scene of all was Eileen Davidson's final one. I'll never forget her in that dark dungeon, sliding down the door.

"It's over. Marlena's won... Marlena's won.... no. No... NNNNNNOOOOOOO!" That blood curdling scream, I loved it!

Honestly I just dont understand why Corday just won't hire Brash and Cwickly back. They are much cheaper and did a better job than what I am seeing now. I am so so on this Dimera return. I am waiting on Stefano. Ken could save a fortune and stop coming out of his own pockets to pay for these expensive return IF HE WOULD HAVE THE BALLS TO ASK THEM BACK. But then again, this is Ken Corday we are talking about.
