ALL: Why Isn't Daytime Advertised in Primetime??

CBS will do it in the summer...but then it's usually only Y&R. Money must be tight...for the past month or so, CBS only gives a jumbo BB/ATWT/GL promo, not three separate ones.

I don't get what they think 4 Survivor promos an hour on daytime is going to accomplish. Or CSI. Maybe daytime wouldn't benefit that much from primetime ads on their network, but what about on other cable channels? Teens love soaps like One Tree Hill and such. It's not like the audience doesn't exist, TIIC just don't know how to hook them.

I still see the occasional Days promo during NBC primetime. Not much in late night anymore. They are few and far between but they still do show them. Never really did much for Passions over the years though. Days always get the bulk of the primetime promoting.

I don't think promoting it at night alone can help. You have to get ads in things like EW, TV Guide, etc and also promote heavily in daytime and primetime (Days did this alot with the SSK story). Hell, somehow find a way to promote on cable networks too. The more, the better.

I don't know why any cable viewers would be interested in watching our watered down, squeaky clean soaps. What a downgrade that would be from the envelope-pushing cable programs! LoL

So true. That reminds me of a quote in the latest Digest, where Michael Graziedei on Y&R said that if the show were on a cable channel, his character would be sitting at the computer watching porn with a jar of KY jelly next to him. Wouldn't it be shocking if Y&R even insinuated that Daniel was masturbating while watching porn instead of just watching it for... for... the cinematography?

Oh, I know! I mentioned that in the Y&R thread last week. Why don't we ever get to see Michael milking one out, or at the very least we could cut up to his red, sweaty face post-orgasm.

LOL! I mean, if they're gonna have one extreme like plastic surgery that makes you look completely like another person exactly, then surely they can portray something as simple as wackin' the willy!

If they can't do that, at least have Lily walk into the room afterwards and say, "Eww, it smells funky in here. Like fish and chlorine." But then that would mean Christel Khalil would actually have to emote feelings, and that's asking too much of her.

I think if ABC aired daytime promos during its biggest nights this past season (DH Sundays and UB/GA Thursdays), they would've gotten better results in the ratings. Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy are all primetime soaps. Airing promos for AMC, OLTL and GH during those shows would give the audience who crave a soapy fix other options throughout the week.

Imagine if the people who like the serial drama/continuing storyline/soapy element of these primetime shows saw that they didn't have to wait a week for the next installment of a series -- or, in the case of primetime drama, wait 2-4 weeks for an "all new" episode -- and could see what happens next in the story 24 hours later, they'd be TiVo-ing, DVR-ing, taping these shows like crazy. Watching them on nights that their shows didn't come on, or watching them when they needed that soapy fix.

But as it is, ABCD only talks to its current ABCD audience by airing promos of the other two shows during the current airing of one show. You don't expand your audience to the width that you want if you just basically advertise to itself. You have to reach the viewers who like the concept of serial drama, but aren't aware of the shows. You don't get NEW soap viewers by promoting to CURRENT soap viewers.

But of course, since I wrote this online, it's worthless. Maybe it would be of more value if I said this in a gilded focus group.

Personally, I would not give the ad space for soaps simply because of the condition of soaps.

One hack after the other is gradually killing daytime. I would not advertise for any of the soaps, and the only ones I make she smallest attempt at watching are not worth it. GL (I'm hanging on by a thread) and AMC (not sure how much longer I can do this show) have my attention, but trust me when I tell you that it is NOT undivided...

Give the space to shows that actually care about the damn audience! No payoff! No ad space!

When that Grease reality show was on months ago - Sundays at 7pm on NBC - they would always air DAYS promos. I think the only reason was because one of the finalists used to be a recurring character on DAYS and they would ALWAYS mention it.

That reminds me of the first time I found out about SUNSET BEACH's Shockwave storyline. It was a teaser during Conan, pre-internet, and it was great. Really got me wondering what the hell was gonna happen that summer.

I watch all three CSI's, Without a Trace, Cold Case, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Jericho, and Criminal Minds, all of which air on CBS, and have not seen a single Daytime promo in primetime (with the exception of when they had Promos where they were bragging that they were the #1 network and added that they had the #1 show (CSI), #1 Comedy (2 1/2 Men), that they were #1 with Sports, and that they were #1 in daytime (one brief clip of Bob Barker and one of Y&R). With which shows have you seen them with then??

    • I haven't seen Melchior in the role, but it would be astounding if she's worse than Linn. Her rivalry with Stephanie was sidelined IMO because Linn was one of the few actors who didn't have chemistry with, nor raise her game, when paired with Susan Flannery. To be fair, she did show some signs of life in scenes opposite Darlene Connelly, but way too little too late. It feels like Bell finally woke up after the Thorne switchover and sidelined the Kristin character with Mick to 1 or 2 appearances a week. As a result, the show improved by leaps and bounds after she was inexplicably at the center of the show for most of 1989. Margo is so much more enjoyable when not tied to that albatross. Even Clarke is watchable with less Kristin interaction. She can't exit stage left soon enough. As for the new Thorne, I agree that Norcross feels like a Forrester a lot more than Thrachta, even if the latter is a better actor.
    • The cast said that scenes were filmed over a few weeks, with a preplanned hiatus in the middle, and it was all out of order.  I would *guess* that they used Chandler when they could get him? They also had to work around Leo Howard getting married around the time these episodes were filmed, but I guess they worked it out since Tate appeared.
    • Maybe there was a scheduling conflict or something. He still has the full time 9-5 in Atlanta, right? Julie was there. Idk if Maggie’s gonna be a part of it though

    • Today Monday was the start of people arriving at the funeral, but the service hasn't started yet.  I know this is the nonspoiler thread but I think it's okay to say (in nonspecific terms) that the funeral episodes span a few days.  I won't detail it more here. Just sayin' keep watching.
    • Why am I only now hearing about what happened in L.A., lol?
    • While I agree that Reeves is Jennifer, I honestly do prefer Cady McClain in the role, as I feel she had/has a wider range of acting capabilities than I feel Reeves has. It's the strength of an actor, ultimately, for me, regardless of how I feel about Reeves' political/social views (which I widely disagree with). Plus, not to mention, they costumed Reeves like an old-fashioned frumpy farm/Moron wife, while McClain had some fashion-forward moments.
    • Wait - so no Will, Jack, or Jen at John's funeral? That’s just weird. What was the point of bringing them back then? Did Julie and Maggie even show up? I mean, seriously.
