Moyer, HBO make 'Blood' pact

By Nellie Andreeva

April 9, 2007

Stephen Moyer has landed the male lead opposite Anna Paquin in "True Blood," Alan Ball's drama pilot for HBO.

Brook Kerr also has been cast in the project, which Ball wrote and is set to direct and executive produce.

Based on the "Southern Vampire" book series by Charlaine Harris, "True Blood" takes place in a world in which vampires can buy Japanese-made synthetic blood. Their integration into a small Louisiana town causes quite a stir, and a love story ensues between Bull Comton (Moyer), a vampire, and Sookie Stackhouse (Paquin), an innocent waitress who can read people's minds.

Kerr will play a beautiful, smart, articulate young woman who takes a job in the bar with Sookie.

This pilot season, English-born Moyer was cast as the lead in Fox's drama pilot "Company Man." The role was recast after the character was taken in a different direction.

Moyer, who recently wrapped the USA miniseries "Starter Wife," is repped by Peter, Fraser and Dunlop in London and Roklin Management in Los Angeles.

Kerr ("Passions") is repped by Innovative Artists and Berneman Management

Mason is right. The more days that go by, the less likely it gets. I want it to live on because it is improving but I am being realistic and I don't want to get my hopes up.

The other problem is, if the show does continue, the longer it takes to make a deal with another network or outlet happen the more actors or actresses that jump ship. They want employment too and they have the luxury of being able to be paid and work while looking for new jobs. There is already word of Andrea Evans returning to OLTL and you just know that Lindsey and Emily will get picked up right away and Brook already has. By time Passions gets a deal with someone, they may have none of the big actors and actresses left and that will make moving and making Passions successful hard. You don't want to lose too many money characters and that is what will happen. The show has suffered and been bogged down by too many recasts so simply recasting won't help. Passions fans will want to see their faves if the show lives on and the longer it takes, the less likely their faves will still be on board with the show past the last airdate so it's becoming crunch time for Passions.

Sounds to me like this show will be quite a bore. A silly vampire love story with Brook's character being nothing more than a sidekick. Honestly, if I can't see these people on Passions anymore then I honestly don't care where any of them end up, as harsh as that may sound. Nevertheless, good luck to her if this show breeds life.

Well I'm still holding out just a bit longer to see what becomes of Passions. I figure we'll soon be informed of something one way or another. As for the actors all jumping ship? We'll see what happens with that too because it's not like any of them are guaranteed to land anywhere else and stranger things have happened. I think most of them would just be grateful to still have a job even if Passions came up with some new plan.

    • yes. today Monday's episode started with words displayed "part 1" and ended with "to be continued"
    • I find Missy Reeve's views offensive and I don't want to defend her, but I don't think she ever said anything publicly about Days "gay content".   In fact, I don't think she's ever said anything negative about Days at all.  There's no indication Missy is difficult or unprofessional on set-except for the whole affair thing years ago lol-but that's a whole different topic. I can dislike Missy as a person and still think she's the perfect fit for Jen.  Cady tried and it didn't work for me.  Whenever Missy steps into the role it works.  It's a two things can be true situation.  Missy has some bad opinions, but she's great at playing Jennifer.
    • Doesn't the funeral go into Tuesday
    • Christian Streaty wrote her second freelance script today on Days. Surprised they gave the first funeral episode to a newbie.
    • And the third thing, which I have no cite for, and I may look to see if one is findable, but supposedly she said that the show had too much gay content in it. And, to be fair, that could be someone making a criticism about balance & not be bigotry but when it's added to the other, that's why it bugs people. Edit to add: The reason this may be impossible to source, and therefore of no use, is because it was not a public statement. She is supposed to have said it at the show, about the show, to colleague/s, one of whom repeated it in public, but that is convoluted to try to track down, so feel free to ignore. I did do some looking & I am not optimistic.

The greatest tv series season finale in history.
    • Mick Savage was sooo unbearable. And more unbearable was the reaction from the female characters to him - they were acting like he is God's gift to women and sooo irresistible. To a point of unbelievable cringe.
    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?
    • This is the coldest early June in my life. It's like it's January.
