Members Rob_NMGN
Hi, I am a Days fan from the Netherlands and I'm disappointed with these nominations. I did not expect Days to bring home the Emmy's this year, but KA, PR, RJ and most of all RM deserved a nomination. Ok there are 9 shows so not all of them can be nominated, but if CBS can get 52 nominations, I find it hard to believe that NBC can only pick up 10, they deserve many more. How are the reactions in the media (television, radio)? Is anyone taking this serious, because you don't have to be a Soap opera fan to see that these nominations are not fair. I remember a interview on Dutch television with Ronn Moss (B& where he is asked what he thinks about the Emmy's. His answer was, that the system of the Emmy's is all wrong. It takes years for an actor to get nominated. Days is on television for over more then 40 years, so I find it hard to believe that this show hasn't got good storylines or actors, so the Emmy's are not fair if you ask me. Don't forget the people behind the scenes, they most be very happy with there thechnical nominations!
Members beachbum
GH won a lot in recent years without press and fans recognition and now this year the press named it best soap and the ratings were great and they don't get a nomination?? incredible
Members Faulkner
When was the last time they had a full line-up? When AW was on the air? AW got lots of nominations and wins throughout the '90s. And Santa Barbara basically owned the Emmys in the '80s.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
What are you talking about? The last time Days was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series was in 1999. Let's not forget during the 98-99 season, both AW and SuBe were both on the air, putting NBC somewhat on par with CBS and ABC's then 4 soap lineup. Jensen Ackles even got a nomination in 1999 for Younger Actor. It wasn't until both AW and SuBe were gone that Days and subsequently PSSNS were shut-out completely. Let's not forget SB's three consecutive wins for Outstanding Drama Series or the fact that AW was still winning in the acting categories during its final years. For some reason, Days in particular, has never been really accepted by the Emmy's.
Members juniorz1
That's not entirely true. When it was DAYS, AW, SB, they got plenty of nods- including some DAYS actors (Charlotte Ross, Leann Hunley, Joseph Campanella, and Jane Elliot come to mind). When it was DAYS/AW/SUN, AW was getting nods for a while. Then SUN was able to break through (Shari Saum, Jason George) and Christie Clark/Jensen Ackles received the token DAYS nods. Plus, there was Eileen, and DAYS consistently getting a nom for Best Show. The short time that it was DAYS/PSNS/SUN doesn't count b/c SUN was all but cancelled. NBC did fine with a full lineup. And, I hate to say it, but you can all thank James E. Reilly for the state of affairs at NBCD. He went and made their shows the industry joke and then proceeded to drive the lineup into the ground. You want someone to blame for NBC's lack of Emmy nominations year in & year out? BLAME REILLY! Those were the days!
Members KLN
Jensen Ackles lone nomination was no different than the one nomination of James Reynolds or this year's lone nomination of James Stevenson. One acting nomination for the show is hardly what I'd call Emmy love, LoL. Emmy hasn't been kind to Days in a long time. The last time an actress was nominated for lead was (I believe) in 1998 with Eileen Davidson. Since then, it's been nobody. Maybe Deidre Hall in 1999. And it's not because nobody's been worth it over the last eight years...
Members KLN
You're right, but like I said... regardless of reasoning or politics or numbers, it's still a shame that the actors have to pay for it. They rise above and still get nada.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
I have to wonder though, the production companies of these soaps do value Emmy recognition. Hence why P&G lobbied for AW to get Emmy nominations and wins. Does Sony actually give a flying [!@#$%^&*] about Days, or do they just squarely concentrate on Y&R? I'd like to know how much power Sony exercises over its two soaps.
Members KLN
Also, I'd like to make a little distinction... Whether or not the actors and actresses have "the good story" doesn't matter, IMO. That should only be taken into consideration for the Writing and Drama Series categories. The acting nominations should be focused solely on that -- the acting -- even if the writing falls short. If an actor or actress can rise above terrible writing, that should lend even more credibility to their abilities. Hence the reason that the actors shouldn't be punished just because JER is an idiot writer. Daytime is full of hack writers, and yet the actors of those shows aren't punished for it. Why should NBC's talents be treated any differently?
Members Pine Charles
I can’t believe MEK wasn’t nominated. The Daytime Emmys have been a joke for years. Is it any wonder the ratings for the ceremony are in the toilet? The only thing I like is GH not getting a ‘Best Drama’ nomination. That’s like a sweet gift. What’s funny about AMC’s shutout is that they used to get the most nominations (as recently as 3 or 4 years ago). Remember all the technical awards? Ironically, I actually think the production now has improved since those times! Go figure. I don’t think AMC deserved ‘Best Drama’ or ‘Best Writing’ (definitely not), but at the same time, OLTL getting one doesn’t make any sense.
Members juniorz1
That's a nice thought, but WHY? Sure, there's only 9 soaps in daytime, but in PrimeTime, actors on shows that are badly written are RARELY, if EVER nominated. The writing and overall quality of a show is going to directly effect acting nominations. The better quality of material, the better platform for performer. The better platform elicits better acting. And the reality is, when voting and comparing shows, the phony writing doesn't do a performer any favors. Judges don't look past that kind of stuff and shouldn't have to. Members RogerNewcomb
How many DAYS or Passions actors showed up to judge? Did every possible person show up to be part of the panel? I honestly do not believe that all these actors who did show up have ZERO integrity and said to themselves, "I'm going to vote for my network and screw Days" (or whatever show). The watched the tapes and made their picks. They ranked the actors and this is how it came out. You have a different group of actors judging and you definitely get different results. It's all subjective. But I have talked to actors who attended these screenings and I do believe they have integrity and vote for who they consider the best. If you don't believe they have any integrity, you should complain about those pre-nom screeners (the actors from various shows). There are lots of diverse opinions and one man's snub is another man's justified absence. I have loved Kristian Alfonso since I was 13 (about to be 27) but I do not think in any universe or time that she is better on her best day than any of the five nominated actresses. Or even those not nominated like Susan Flannery or Nancy Lee Grahn. That doesn't mean she's not great, but she is not a powerhouse like the actual nominees. Perhaps there is a year where the acting panel of judges will see it differently but I have watched all these women for years and doubt it. I'm surprised about NLG, but I wouldn't call it a snub. They all submitted one show and I don't know what all the actresses submitted so I can't say she was snubbed. Maybe if I watched all the tapes, I could say that, but since I didn't, I can't. She is great, though. Based on the supporting categories, if you believe in conspiracy theories, I think ABC actors screened those categories. I can't stand ATWT's Emily, but geez, she was on every day last year and was fabulous. Genie Francis was on a few weeks and got the nod. It only takes one show. Doesn't matter how much you were on or how fabulous you were all year. There will never be some outside unbiased body who votes for this stuff. Having actors vote for actors is a good idea to me. If the press were handing out awards, they would all go to GH, Days and Y&R. I'm glad that shows like OLTL, ATWT, and GL have a chance. They get ZERO magazine covers or exposure so why not give them a turn in prime time to get some glory? And to put it all in perspective, a Daytime Emmy does NOTHING for these people's careers. Come on. Some have moved on to bigger things but not because of their Daytime Emmy. Does anyone really think that is why Julianne Moore made it big? Most of the Daytime Emmy winners turn out to be soap-lifers who never make it in film or prime time. So I'm not crying any tears over those not nominated. It won't give them any more fame, money or glory. The lead story in the papers will be about talk show host with nary a mention of daytime actors anyway. Members juniorz1
FANTASTIC POST!
Members KLN
I actually agree with you. I love "Hope," but Kristian isn't the best actress in daytime. I love her, and she's a great actress... but she's not it. That said, during the "Zach's Death" storyline, I believe that she did bring it just like all the rest. Michelle Stafford is a terrific actress (one of my absolute favorites), but she really did nothing all year that warranted a nomination. She sucked face with Nick, waddled around a bit, sucked face with Nick some more, waddled around s'more, sucked face with Nick again... it wasn't Emmy-worthy. Then there's Jeanne Cooper... she's a FANTASTIC actress. Love, love, love her, and always have. But she wasn't a Lead Actress in 2006. She had no story! She was a prop, and had no airtime... Jeanne Cooper herself said so. Based on the work from 2006, Kristian deserved it more than these two, IMO. Nobody can convince me that Days hasn't had a single deserving actor or actress over the last eight years (aside from the pity of James Reynolds). That's just ludicrous and laughable. No matter how people try to explain it, it just doesn't fly with me.
Members juniorz1
I'm sorry Kenny, I'm really not trying to pick on you, but I'm SO SICK of hearing this today. Do you people forget her confrontations with Peter Bergman's Jack? The emotional turmoil she went through when she found out she was pregnant and the loneliness Phyllis felt? Her confrontations with Michael Graziadei's Daniel about the affair? What about the labor scenes in the elevator? Yes, she and Nick shagged A LOT this year. Yes she giggled sometimes. But between doing those things, she DID manage to turn in some powerhouse performances. Stafford earned her place, just like the others (save Cooper).
