As I've said before, salary on anything is due to budget, what you contribute, and being realistic about asking for raises. In regards to Susan, she had to understand that she wasn't going to get a big raise because the ratings were low, budgets were probably not as vast due to ratings, and her tv Q rating probably didn't justify the raise she was looking for.
And I heard Joe Stuart could be a tyrant, but at the same time, an actor/actress needs to be bought down to reality so I always think when a performer talks about an EP... I always know both are at fault.
I think with Loving and reading the articles shared... expectations were sky high because Nixon, Marland, and Stuart were involved in the soap. So when ratings didn't start strong, there was a lot of panic at the network and in the writing/producing levels.. and the butting of heads started.
Marland was probably the most invested in the early days... but either clashes with the network, EP, or Nixon probably led him to start off on an established soap because he couldn't quite get things to gel at Loving.
Stuart was probably up to his eye balls having to deal with the actors/actresses (and other then Noelle Beck.. the other actresses on that reunion special were acting like spoiled brats) and probably didn't have the right abilities to help build a new show.
Nixon.. let's face it, her true love and focus was always going to be on All My Children.. she barely focused on One Life to Live and she only came in to help at Loving during dire times.. but her focus and passion was always going to be All My Children.. no matter what.
