ATWT: 3 Ways To Make This SHow Better

Get rid of Paul.RH gives me the creeps and he has no chemistry with any female on the show.

If Mike is to be recast,it must be Shawn Christian. He would be a plus for the show.Mark Collier was a mistake.

Stop the all Katie, all the time show. If SHawn did return,I don't think there would be chemistry in the match any way.He had chemistry with Martha Byrne before he left.Or pair him with someone else.

On the subject of SC,I hope he accepts the offer. Its not like his career has taken off in LA.This past year all he has gotten is a 5 episode recurring role on Las Vegas, and he starred in a short film that played at the Long Island filmfest

1. Rotate those in front burner storylines. In other words, don't have Katie,Carly,Paul go from one story to the next. Give them their time on the backburner!

2. This show has a lot of vets with a lot of history. Some of these people may not be with the show for much longer. Have a vet featured in a front burner or secondary story at all times. Use the history. Sure, the networks want the young viewers BUT ATWT has a high percentage of older viewers. Pander to them!!!!!!

3. Have a writer or producer on staff who is a historian or a continuity expert who can advise the writers and producers. In the late 80's,learly 90's there was a producer named Leelah Pitenis. She knew the show inside and out and every character and the way they should respond, etc, etc.

Use characters' history! How does Barbara NOT get an onscreen reaction to her granddaughter's death, particularly considering all of the history between Em/Barbara, Paul/Barbara and Em/Paul/Barbara as a group? How is James NOT mentioned ONCE when Emily (his former mistress) is pregnant with his grandchild by his son Paul? WTH happened between Meg and Josh, she WAS married for a long time, no?

1. Give Henry a storyline that is worthy of the character. Maybe put him in the closet, then take him out of the closet and then pair him with an older looking/acting Luke( keeping the same actor). So much potential

2. Make Jade a little more interesting. Like give her some " hand on the hip/head shaking/ teeth sucking/I really don't give a dam ATTITUDE". She's Rose's daugther for crying out loud, Rose had moxie and attitude. A Jade with attitude wouldn't be to easy to get rid of, but it would be fun watching everybody try.

3. Put the following on the back burner--- Wil/Gwen(after breaking them up), Emlooney ( we get it she's crazy), Paul( send him back to StenBeck Univ. for a refresher course), Craig ( he's back--we get it). Katie-- but put her in the oven and turn on the gas.

4. Give Nancy and Lisa a storyline before it's too late. Find Susan.

Oops, that's four. Sorry

1. The show needs to have storylines that revolve around all it's characters, and I mean all of them, If you need to have storyline arks that only last two months each to accomplish this than do it. It is the constant focus on Craig, Katie, Gwen which storyline arks have been going on for two years now that are ruining the show, Craig may be the only exception because he was MIA for a while, but his storyline still lived on even though he was gone, Gwen has had storyline after storyline without a break since the character was introduced to ATWT. And well Katie, has she ever really been backburnered.

2. Balance- some of that was covered in my first thing to do. Like I said I want to see as many characters as possible on every show, that means there needs to be 5-6 storylines that are playing per day, at the point we are at now, it is only two storylines a day, and sometimes 3. The bad part about that is that it is the same three storylines all week every week, with one day set aside every week for a smaller storyline to be aired for example Casey's storyline and Lily's storyline, we see them once a week that is it, for there new storylines to even begin to interest me I need to see them 3-4 days a week just like I see Craig's storyline, Gwen's storyline, and Katie's storyline, if you did that we would have 4-5 stories a day, plus they also need to add more storylines that even involve the characters that we never see, for example Dallas, Luke, the vets, and several others, so if that means that Jean P. needs to have 8 different storylines going at one time than so be it, I would have no problem as a writer finding a way to fit 8 storylines into a weeks worth of shows, each story IMO should be no longer than 10 minutes a show, the way it is now some of these stories are on for 30 minutes a day, that is far to long and not balanced at all.

3. Use the History of the show, this seems to be a huge problem for this show right now, there were probably 6 different things that happened in the last week, that went against what we saw in the past, this show will not work with the writer making up new history as she goes along, the viewers are not stupid, and we notice when mistakes on History are made.

(I need a fourth)

4. Continuality- Is a major problem on this show, we have events that happen, and family members that should find out about things never do on screen, for example Barbara still has not heard a word about Paul and Emily's baby dieing, that is just nuts. Also the fact that several stories that were foreshadowed in the Summer months and even set up by the writers have been swept under the rug, for example Luke's storyline involving Kevin, there was a story there right at the end of lake Raven, with Kevin and his father, and also talk about how the kids might treat Luke at school. Well since those scenes we have yet to even see Luke in school, and Kevin has not been seen, you cannot have stories start and then just drop them and think we will not notice, plus it just ruins the show, and makes the writers look real dumb for doing things like that. Some more examples, Dallas why is he even in town, we only see him 1 day a month, we have never found out what brought him to Oakdale or why. Jade, yes we know that she is Rose's Daughter(after 7 months I might add) but yet we really have not had any background on the character yet, does anyone remember the phone call to her father? way back months ago, again another foreshadowing event, and story that was brought up, but never followed through on.

Nancy and Lisa never got a reaction to their grandchild either when Casey's son died (a 5th generation Hughes no less).

Best way to fix the show in 2007 - Ban crime and death!

1) Fire Jean Passanante

2) Fire Chris Goutman

3) What winterguy said

First off I will say I don't think the show needs to fire anyone or get rid of anyone right now. They have a very talented cast - they just need to balance them out and use them better.

Now to my 3:

1) Give the show back diversity: Give Jessica a story with Ben. Give Dallas a story. Put Luke in a real gay romance. Show all races, different minorities, faiths, beliefs, etc. Even put more emphasis on the different classes. Right now every seems to be the same. Even the Snyders have lost some of their diversity.

2) As James said - tap into the older viewers too. Keep using the teens because they are the best set of young actors in daytime, but also utilize the vets too. Right now the stories are way too lopsided centering on the youth or under 30. Give someone over 40 a decent story again and decent air time. Make use of Lisa, Barbara, Nancy, Bob, Susan and others. There are so many stories for them.

3) Focus on the couples and family. I like all the couples ATWT has but not one of them is really rootable right now. And the families are so scattered and don't have the closeness they once did. My favorite couple is Jack & Carly but this story they are in so many times is not even about them. They need to refocus the stories, and give us better sequences. etc.

3. Get rid of Jade and backburn all the current characters on. We need more Lucinda, Barbara, Kim, Bob. THE VETS!

1) Fire Passanante and establish a new writing team with Richard Culliton as HW, assisted by Carolyn Culliton, Juliet Packer and Richard Backus.

2) Return the veterans and core families to front burner storylines.

3) Return to character-driven realism and start using the show's long and rich history once again.

I also think there are tons of stories out there for the vets of the show, its just we need a writer that knows there history, and I just don't think Jean P. has a clue about some of these characters that have been on the show for 30-50 years, she only knows history back 3 years ago, and she can't even get that right. :P So I think that if we are to ever see storylines with the vets we would have to have a new headwriter, either that or Jean would really have to spend some time reviewing the history or the show. I don't even think that the storylines even have to be huge ones, even though I would like to see a big story for some of them, I just don't think it will ever happen. But almost all of the Vets have there own different Jobs that they have and there could be storylines based on those even. For instance Kim owns WOAK there could be a story there, Bob is the chief of the hospital a storyline could develop out of that, Lisa well she owns what half the town, so there are tons of stories there, Barbara was heavily involved in the Fashion Business, there are stories there for sure, we have seen them. Lucinda, who owns Worldwide tons of storylines there. As for Nancy I really don't know what more they could do with her other than to be a friend to talk to this or that character(but one thing is for sure I would like to see more of Nancy that just talking to Katie about her sex life, that is just insulting to me and is probably insulting to Helen).

I would also like to see maybe love interests for Lisa, Barbara, Susan, and Lucinda I know each have had plenty of men in there past, but it has been years since any of them have really had anyone. Well I take that back Susan did have Dr. Decker not long ago, but that did not turn out so well. Heck I just figured out a love triangle just while typing this, how about a Barbara/Chaz/Lucinda triangle(yes I know Chaz is a bit young for Lucinda, but so is Simon and that would have worked).

I think the only thing that I would not what to see in regards to a storyline would be Bob or Kim cheating on each other, that already happens enough on the show, and I don't want to see a couple that has been together this long to be broken up.

But sadly I really think as long as JP is the writer of the show, the only stories we will be seeing are stories that involve Craig, Katie, and Gwen, it seem to be a pattern with her, so unless you are involved in these peoples storylines you really are not going to get one. Sure you will have you small little stories for say Lily, or even Casey right now, but they will be focused on so little that you don't even realize there is a storyline with them, same for any other story that may develop without being part of the key three players it will be a small storyline. I think the only sidetrack to my theory here would be the slasher storyline and Luke's storyline which were focused on pretty heavily. Other than that all year it has been Katie this, Baby Johnny(Craig's storyline) this, or Gwen this. Even though Paul/Emily/Dusty/Jen all had a story early this year(which also got repetitive) it still revolved around that baby, which all hence leads back to Craig.

I couldn't agree more. I 100% whole-heartedly agree with every single thing you said, Steve.
