Precisely. Marlena has very little for storyline and her share of detractors but the fact remains that firing her would be really symbolic of coming in and trying to change Days. That rarely goes over well with fans of any soap and with recent history being what it is, Days fans are edgier than most. While she of the big 6 would pose the biggest challenge to me if I was a writer on the show, that's just not the only consideration here.

Sorry, but I will. Why? Well, this is UNPRECEDENTED. Renee is a DARN good actress, as far as we know she hasn't cause problems backstage, there is no scandal surrounding her, no bad PR, no sex tape...there's NO reason for "Days" to fire her. And fire her just to recast the character. It's almost a form of agism. Because her age, time on the show, dictates her pay. So, again, Renee is PHENOMENAL and they fire her JUST to recast her. Why? Remember: it's all about MONEY. Not character importance or acting abilities. If you have shrewd business practices like "Days" clearly has, then yes, Marls and Hope COULD be next. anyone ready for Kam Heskin to play Marlena? Anyone? How about Priscilla Garita playing Hope? It COULD happen!!

Renée is a darn god actress, true. But Deidre Hall & Kristian Alfonso are more popular, with both Marlena and Hope arguably the most popular female characters in DAYS lifespan, along with Julie, Alice & Maggie.

Kam Haskin playing Marlena???!! Yeah right. She's just a few years older than Ali Sweeney(Sami). Priscilla Garita is about 15 years younger than Kristian Alfonso, and couldn't play mother to Shawn.

Yes we do know because Hope and Marlena are major characters. Lexie was supporting. Hope and Marlena have big fanbases. Corday, Days, and NBC know that. They would never recast them. Not going to happen. Same goes for Bo, John, Steve, Kayla, and Sami. They would never recast them. Those characters are owned by those actors.

The article mentioned rumors that they may recast. I beleive that means if it happens it will down the road. I don't think they meant right away. How can they be testing the waters JSF when they haven't even decided what to do yet? That article said they thought about killing her and now are tossing the recast idea around. It didn't say it was happening. In fact, it was only an idea and not so much a rumor as I am reading the article now. Let's not jump to conclusions because nothing has even suggested a recast. In fact, all signs still point to Lexie being called off. We'll but Days would do recasts of any of the characters I have listed. That is not just my opinion. That is a fact. They would get rid of the characters entirely but no way would anyone fill the role in any of their places.

I'm sorry but if shows can recast front burner characters who are fan favourites like Carly Corinthos (multiple times), Cassie Winslow, Victoria Newman, Clint Buchanan and Todd Manning then they can sure as hell recast a supporting character like Lexie Carver. Sure, Renee Jones has been loyal to the show and is popular with the fans, but for all we know the show could have asked her to take a pay cut and she could have refused. We dont know what goes on behind the scenes...

They could recast but why? If it's for the Dimera storyline then why not keep her on until that's over? It's not like it's going to last forever, and with upcoming budget cuts coming up money will be saved somewhere. Surely they could've at least (and possibly will) used the storyline to stage her exit, and beyond the storyline why is she essential? I don't understand the point of recasting Lexie.

My smart money is on either Suzanne Rogers, James Reynolds or Lauren Koslow to be written off. If it's Suzanne, I'd hate to see her go, but all you'd have to do is get John Clarke back as Mickey for one or two days, say Melissa or Sarah is ill in Tennessee, and off they go (to maybe make return appearances as story warrants). If it's James, I'd also see it coming in story. Lauren is a great actress, but what more can Kate do now that all of her plots have basically been exposed?

If it's one of the Big Six or Ali/Bryan, then this show's ratings would take a huge hit. That's the last thing Days needs at the moment.

Days of our Lives Doctor Checking Out

Days of our Lives confirms that longtime castmember Renee Jones (Dr. Alexandra "Lexie" Carver) is being written off the NBC soap.

When is Lexie leaving the canvas and why, you ask?

"Renee is concentrating on her current storyline and is still taping here at Days," the show's rep told TVGuide.com. "Unfortunately, I do not have any further details to include at this moment."

The residents of Salem now know EJ Wells (James Scott) is a devious DiMera, thanks to Lexie's psychic mama Celeste (Tanya Boyd). Since Lexie is a reformed DiMera, I'm guessing she'll be a casualty of EJ's war on the town.

Whatever the reason, I'll be sorry to see Renee Jones go. Since 1993, Lexie's been Salem's go-to lady doc for all medical needs. Lexie had a brief stint as an evildoer — remember the infamous Vampira gown? — and she's cheated on her cop husband, Abe Carver (James Reynolds), with lotsa hot guys! Gotta love her.

I'm surprised by how silent the show is about this latest firing. I wish the Days' press relations people would start communicating with fans what's going on with the show.....
