Members cal3
They are both awful but I think OLTL is worse and the damage harder to repair. AMC's families are still in tact with story. The Colby, Adam, Josh, Babe, JR, Krystal, Tad, presumably Erica, Bianca, Jeff, Kendall story has a ton of potential. It also has good actors with a few exceptions. OLTL couldn't begin to put a story like that together.
Members Jess
Well, it is official. Jessica and Antonio do have a wedding in November. Jessica and Antonio do get married in November. And Jessica and Antonio do become man and wife. That absolutely seals it for me. Once again Frons tells viewers he doesn't give a [!@#$%^&*] what the overwhelming majority like or in this case seriously dislike. Screw you Frons. Members cal3
I have never seen a show so intent at pissing off their viewers as OLTL. If this is their plan to bring up ratings I'd hate to see a plan to tank them.
Members Jess
You know Cal, it's almost a relief. I've been holding out hope that OLTL would change and that it would hear viewers. I thought Nash and Jess would be a sign of that. Now that I know it's just more of Frons' twisted view, it's over. I'm not pissed or anything. I'm not the viewer he wants and he makes those decisions. It just tells me there is no point in ever watching this show again. There is no Kevin and Kelly, there is very little Viki, there is no Jess and Nash and painfully there is all too much Jessica and Antonio. It's not my show and there is no chance that it will be in the forseeable future. I view shows for entertainment and OLTL is not entertainment for me. So, yeah, it's a relief to finally put a nail in it.
Members EricMontreal22
It's plain out crazy. I DON'T like the recent fan obssession with couples and campaigns to keep them, etc, and don't want writers to become slaves to that *however*.... NO ONE likes Jess and Antonio. And no one has for years. It doesn't make one iota of sense to me
Members Steve
I stopped watching OLTL around the time they paired Asstonio and I can't believe they're still together!
Members David_Vickers
Actually I'd rather have Jessica & Antonio then Jessica & that sick-o Nash. Forbes March(Nash) has worn out his welcome and needs to go. I'd rather have Jessica maybe back with Cristian or with Hugh or a new love interest. Members Jess
I like your argument about writers not becoming slaves to them. That's a very good point. I would very much like to watch a daytime drama that had root for couples and root for characters. Antonio and Jessica are the worst couple I believe on soap operas. I rooted for Nash and Jess. OLTL goes from bad to worse and that is unfortunate.
Members ZaraB
There is a point in a story where you can delay gratification, to make the wait worthwhile. Dena is so far PAST that point it isn't even a laughing matter-- and more and more viewers are catching on that even if they get gratification, a one-in-hundred-shot, it WON'T be worthwhile. Dena walked into a situation where there had already been a lot of delayed gratification -- and then built on it. Many here would have sung her praises IF after Todd's execution, after we watched him sob and all but give up, Todd Manning came back with a vengeance with a master plan in place for Spenser's vengeance. Instead, just as with every story, it was sacrificed at the altar of making McBain the Pain more likeable. Tess and Nash began as a cute couple, classic romance stuff, if one overlooked how seriously ill she was, and took Tess as the spunky part of Jess that had been missing for years along with her brain. I don't believe it was ever meant to be more than a summer interlude -- but they'd have faced a viewer revolt. Now we're caught with 'endgame' in a losing game either way. Nash has been villified and weakened to even the score. The trouble is, instead of rooting for one or the other, the way they did with the JoVan wars, many are opting either out of the show or either of the above. The Brennans could have been a great opportunity to build a new, strong nuclear family on canvas. Instead they brought on Claudia, yet another weak twenty-somehting woman. Every opportunity they have made, they have completely squandered. Now they are given six more months. I'm not sure OLTL and AMC HAVE six more months in them - but I see this mandate as their death sentence, not as a sign of hope.
Members cal3
What is so bad is that it doesn't sound like Jess/Nash/Antonio is over. It sounds like it continued despite the fact that we get stuck with Antonio and Jess married. So we get the continued triangle along with the couple that has to be the most hated couple in the history of the show. What is the story here that is to draw viewers in to watch? Zara is on point. It's one thing to delay gratification but at come point you have to give the audience the reward. Dena never gives that reward.
Members Jess
Yep, there is never a payoff. A couple of points. Dena is bad, but I really believe that ABCD's problems go well beyond the writers. I think the same is probably true of McTavish. Second, thank you so much Errol. You provide great insights and they are very balanced. Jay, if nothing else, you started the only thread that has motivated any discussion about OLTL in months. Congratulations. I hope you are right that change is coming and it will bring us all back to ABC (you did say that didn't you. LOL)
Members cal3
I also agree that the problems extend far beyond the writers. Valentini in my opinion is more of a problem than Dena and Frons is a disaster. Sweeney also deserves to be in the hot seat for permitting things to get to this point.
