TBH, I never seen more than 20 mins of Riverdale, And can not speak to what It's giving. What I do know though, Is AMC was at It's best when it had this oddball mix of themes going at once. I wouldn't say gothic horror, I would say a lot of storylines, and a few characters incorporated gothic elements with a "Hitchcockian" flair. There was even those Promos of the characters peeking through door key holes, like voyeurs. It's hard for me not to think of the gothic element being a major fabric of this show. When Its been touch on just as much as the Douglas Sirk element. They even touched on it in the Hulu reboot. @Vee By the way, which shows you thick did the gothic storytelling better? When I brought of Scream I wasn't necessarily speaking on the horror aspect, but more about a close knit town lead by legacy characters dealing with a family secret. Miranda and Sam(scream) could be the same character.

Just because it goes dark doesn't mean it loses it heart. The show went dark many times during the 90s but most fans still felt the heart. Whatever happens with it, i would hope it has a nice balance of both dark and light elements! What i don't wanna see is something that's so sugary sweet and fairytale light , which at times the show became and that was corny!

I'm pretty shock to see so many mentions of the Maya storyline, majority of the soap press and fans speak highly of it. So grateful for this thread because I get a chance to cut for boy Charles Pratt, Jr. Jesse has a second family from 2008 on All My Children: This was a great idea IMO, who believed hypersexual Jesse was celibate for 20 years?? Nobody.... The only problem was the supposed timing of their romance, and the age of his daughter. It came off to me that Shannon Kane was being cast as Cassie and they just said forget that and make her Jesse new daughter. The writers made it seem as though he faked his death just to hop into another relationship with that screwed up timing. Natalia needed to be the same age Frankie was when Jesse "Died" so if they went ahead with killing Rebecca it would be like god giving them a second chance at parenthood. I bought into how Jesse grew feelings for this nice lady who offer him food and shelter during that scary time in his life. Bianca and Zach creates a baby behind Kendall's back 2008 on All My Children: Loved this storyline idea, the execution was all wrong. Even on paper I would ask for a breakdown of story beats before moving forward. (Family betrayal) is a soap staple so.... Bianca always been selfish. Erica choosing Kendall side for once. Zendall angst that didn't include Greenlee and Ryan were all things I was excited to see. I love the Reese but Bianca returning home with Maggie or even Laura would've worked just fine! I would still have the engagement but set the date for the 40th. Come up with some frantic reason for them to rush into this situation. Have Maggie be the one that chooses Zach as the donor. Bianca wrestle with the decision but ultimately go ahead with it, She realize she's Pregnant as Kendall wake's up. And Josh returns home who also is beefing with Zach, everybody is disappointed in Princess Bianca.

It's Y&R for me, i love freeze frames for big moments like Val chasing after her baby on Knots Landing.

Frankie Hubbard (ALL MY CHILDREN) This legacy character deserve better. They never had a clear focus on what to do with him. One moment he's into film making, then a doctor, then making films again, then a war hero, and than a doc again! I wasn't a fan of making another person of color a doctor LOL. I wanted him to have more edge than his parents did, I wish they pushed him into more business storylines with The Chandlers and Enchantment and Fusion. I was all game for Frankie and Colby, but i also wanted him with Kendall and Amanda. I didn't hate Randi, i expected more from that role and the actress just let me down. Hannah Nichols (ALL MY CHILDREN) Another Character i had high hopes for. She was good angst for Zendall. I liked her entanglements with Josh and Sean too!

@Khan That's true. She did start out on the show, with some decent charisma to me. So i'm not sure if she was ever content with the role. Yeah, I could get behind the menopause storyline. It should have been a priority to ground Erica and her family in more reality based storylines. It would have been nice to have her brother Mark around during the 2000s. @Soaplovers I forgot all about Dottie. You're correct they did her dirty. I would have liked to see her return in a "look at me now" type of storyline. @JohnVery true. @JosephYes, Nina and Brooke were best friends, so much drama to play. Add in her cousin Dixie with Adam too! Tara did look awfully old LMAO. Erica did date her son before she returned though. I would love to see that feud play out. AMC did not play up their history enough, they was always focus on moving forward!!

Taylor Thompson (All My Children) I felt like this character was so refreshing not just for AMC, but daytime as a whole. You don't see a role like this everyday especially for a female. I believe Taylor could have became a fixture on this canvas, she was pretty unique from the start as a tomboyish ex-army brat, birth into a family full of men, she stood out in contrast with the beauty fusion girls.... AMC missed out on creating a beloved everywoman type of character. She was full of possibilities: Taylor should have been tested with Ryan, Tad, David, and Frankie and maybe Bianca. She could have had different political beliefs because she didn't come from money like Greenlee and Kendall. I agreed with you 100%. At that time on the show both could've flourished. It was brought up in the tribute thread that Taylor Miller was asking to be paired with David Canary and that storyline just writes itself with the Cortlandt/Chandler history. IMO, Adam was wasted and kept redoing the same thing after his storyline with Gloria. So i would have enjoyed him Honestly falling for Nina. Erica was in a sweet spot before she kidnap Maria's child. I felt like they needed to focus more on her new friendships with Janet and Skye and how she learns to coexist with other women. More focus on her being a business mentor, Giving her and David a real chance at a romance etc....

@j swiftAll great points. Real life is stranger than fiction, i know/knew many men. Who were cad's like Tad and when they finally settled down, it was always mostly with someone the complete opposite of the women they dated! I never wanted Liza with tad, i never felt like he truly cared for her in that way. And he hurt her to a point i could never buy it. I did love his pairing with Cara though, loved that he married a doctor too! Maybe Erica was looking in all the wrong places, maybe her true love was a bit younger than her and was an adopted Martin.... @Khan Not trying to convince you. It was just a thought because I'm always trying to rewrite things from the last decade LOL. Respect your opinion though!!! @All My Shadows Also some great points. I really appreciate your response. Just for the record, many couplings have started from a idea just like mine. People have been paired just because they was popular, were in the same age range, or the same race etc. That's why they always test out the chemistry before they go forward with the storyline. I would definitely consider them friends. I said if i was the head writer i would've made them the new core family meaning it was not going to be short term. We can agree to disagree, i personally think it would be dope. @allmc2008True. I think about them like it happen yesterday too! Pine Valley wasn't just Agnes baby it was mine too!

I don't know if I buy that pairing them would kill other story opportunities. Many of the other soaps have paired two stars. You just need to use them as a true umbrella with many layers to pull from. I read many times on this very forum that most viewers felt that both Erica and Tad last good storylines were in the 90s. So, why not take a chance and go for it? A moment like this is perfect for flipping your show on it's head, and reinventing the focus of the show. If I was writing it, they would definitely get married and would be the new unconventional core family. I just got done watching Erice and Jackson reality show/talkshow and when Tad pretends to be dating Erica was so funny. @Vee They started dating at the top of summer 2009 until Greens return on valentine's day 2010. I have always in the minority of thinking Pratt had good ideas, he just needed someone who cared about the show to tap his hand and keep him straight. @j swift Yes he was was, I loved his character. I wouldn't mind reverting him I just believe they wouldn't have had to do that if they had slowed things down a bit. His mission was to become a "have" and you make him a millionaire overnight! Where's the fun in that?

@Khan @Franko. Yes i remember that dream episode. It was cute!!!! I'M actually talking about pairing them realistically, she's the show biggest female star and he was the shows biggest male star how that didn't happen even before Dixie and/Or Brooke? It came to my mind when i saw a old clip of Tad and Jenny with Erica in NYC. I believe that was untapped drama there, how many martins have Erica been with?

@allmc2008 Those train scenes still stand the test of time. I love Angie and Jesse, so glad they were allowed to come back and salute their stand as a iconic daytime treasure. Back in 2008, i didn't even realize that reunion scene was borrowed from Cliff and nina storybook. It doesn't make any sense to me how nobody thought of repeating the Phoebe/Charles/Mona with ERica/Jack/Brooke. There was this great scene at the hospital right before brookes disappearance. Brooke had on this mature sexy leather get up flirting Jack in front of Erica I need to find those scenes. Sometimes I think the show missed out on never pairing Erica and Tad. Have these two episodes from the 80s been posted? First one has Estelle.... Second one was a much better episode to me has Kelly... In both episodes characters keep talking about some party Brooke gave, I wanna see those episodes.

If the character wasn't an Ewing they didn't care to give the family a stable viewpoint. I don't necessarily think clayton needed another child; he already had a son who was capable of being thorn to the jr but of course stripped him of his manhood tried the best to make him unrootable

I didn't mind Robin here. She was pretty good imo. Well I didn't hate her like most of you did on "Ambitious ". This was one of my favorite episodes, they slowed things down and the writing felt more focused and intimate. Looking forward to them test results.
