ALL: Speculation on the Future of Successful Daytime Soap Operas
If the AMC movies actually happen, I think it's far more likely a test balloon to see if they can put it back to series somehow. It's like how Peacock clearly toyed with Beyond Salem before pulling the trigger to move Days entirely to streaming. With the prime time attempt and then the Lifetime movies, it's obvious ABC sees some value in the brand but are unsure how to proceed forward with it.

Speaking of which, I wonder if they're going to release studio versions of the songs? I'd be interested in hearing them at least.

ALL: Speculation on the Future of Successful Daytime Soap Operas
I don't think you can compare the late night situation with daytime. First of all, the late night ad revenue has absolutely plummeted - from $439 million in 2018 to dropping by 50% last year. Daytime (and primetime) is still profitable, part in due to license fees to streaming, off network syndication and overseas sales. Late night shows do not have this, which is why Colbert's show costing 100 million (or around ~650k per episode) became a huge issue. It was entirely reliant on first-run ad revenue and estimated on losing about $40 million per year. Add what we know about The Talk's streaming numbers since Beyond the Gates had a four digit increase on that medium. While the added est. 300k viewers on streaming might not sound like much, that's 300k clicking on a streaming platform per day to see a new episode of their stories. There's a reason why Days of our Lives is now secured for the next three seasons on Peacock. Ultimately, streaming has helped out soaps so far with platforms wanting to secure cheap content that makes people log on daily. It's killing shows that are leaning towards current subjects and that has no after life like late night shows.

Urban development I assume? It didn't seem in bad enough shape to tear down otherwise.

I mean, how old is Anita supposed to be? When were the Articulettes "big"? I'd assume Articulettes would've had hits in the 70s/80s... but then they've also thrown New Jack Swing vibes in there. I suspect they've never actually sat down and tried to figure it out lol

DAYS: July 2025 Discussion Thread
I think you're misinterpreting what they mean with outlines - stuff like the "Who shot EJ" storyline would've been discussed in the writers room considering they dropped clues and such before Ron left. Same thing with Gwen's return - likely she's tied to the hospital funding plot (I don't know this for sure, so it's not a spoiler) and if that's the case it was probably discussed before Ron left. So yes, they're probably using ideas and "outlines" that were put into motion before Ron left. That he's not being credited doesn't mean they're not staying true to the projected resolutions, though they're likely setting things up for their own storylines (hence certain characters just leaving that I'm sure wouldn't have left if Ron was still there).

No, I remember it too. I don't recall who said it, but they're using Ron's outlines though I assume they're changing some things up and writing out some characters they're not interested in. I assume the "Who shot EJ" storyline is the main one they're keeping to Ron's outline since everything for it was planted while he was still there.

I wouldn't mind it if they took the long-term approach with that to be honest. They've already shown us that she has dysfunctional coping mechanisms, but I don't think they need to go further than that right now (do we really want to see Dani in rehab at this point?). Too many soaps do the whole "character goes on a bender and then they're in AA". I'd rather let it stew for a bit. I agree that this doesn't make sense for her to fake a pregnancy at this point. It seems rather... pointless? We haven't seen her and Bill attempt to get pregnant or know of any medical issue for her preventing having children... also, what is she even planning to do? Fake a pregnancy for nine months (increasingly risking everything) and stealing a baby? I guess it's time like this when JERs endless character monologues would be useful for Hayley, because I don't get it and I suspect the explanation won't be great either. I kind of like this idea because at least it would make some sort of sense, though she still needs that baby to make it work. Again, she and Bill haven't really tried, nor have we had any discussions where he absolutely does not want to be a father again.

There's a $7.99 tier that includes DAYS, NBC and Bravo. If anything they're using Love Island as a bait to get people to pay more for Peacock.

I guess having a squatter in your home is sort of annoying, but the Salem real estate market is horrible. I still say they should have the next mayoral election be about the housing crisis in Salem. It's gross. It's weird how we have a lot of other gay couples in the DAYS universe (Will and Sonny, Paul and Andrew, Dmitri and unknown dude, potentially Craig with an unknown partner) and they get stuck on Leo. I can only assume Greg Rikaart has agreed to work for the money in the change jar.

Beverly Hills, 90210 Discussion Thread
Well, the HD remaster seems to at least include all the episodes on streaming as a few markets (Sweden, Greece) seems to have gotten it. The bad news is of course that there's no OG music, but a small step in the right direction nevertheless... I assume the reason why it seems like a slow rollout in markets is because they're trying to license it out to outside streamers before putting it up on Paramount+ so they can profit as much as possible from it.

I think there's a lot to play with Martin being the oldest male grandson and being favoured by Anita and Vernon. It could certainly lead to interesting interactions with Nicole (overachiever who felt she had something to prove) and Dani (underachiever who never felt good enough). Not sure if they'll go full on with that resentment though, especially considering Nicole is Martin's mother (even though they've barely had any scenes together). But it would certainly be something different.

I feel like Ron would often write out / skip character's pregnancies tbh on screen. Sarah, Kristen, Joy... who else? It wouldn't surprise me if he intended to bring her back down the road.

I think refreshing things are usually fine when you consistently tour and allows things not to go stale for both the artists and the audience... but I agree. If you're having a one-off reunion concert after 30? 40? years it's pure nostalgia bait.

Falcon Crest
They originally wanted Barbara Stanwyck, so I guess the wig was a choice to make Angela look more like her. Wisely, they ditched it (or Jane Wyman made them do so lol). Interesting that the Vintage Years pilot got an early trailer preview. I guess they must've decided to scrap it entirely when the show was moved to a mid-season premiere.

BTG: Encore Discussion Thread
I think in general, this week is just likely lower in the ratings. I noticed that with DAYS it's gone from being consistently in the top 5 for the past few weeks to being in the lower top ten on Peacock. I assume lower viewings levels worried them, but it's likely unnecessary. Daytime is a marathon, not a sprint.
