I've been re-watching Dallas a bit and the change they do to Pam's character between seasons 4 and 5 is so incredibly jarring. While the back-and-forth with the baby stuff is mildly annoying in those first four seasons, ultimately it's about a woman asserting her rights to bodily autonomy despite immense pressure to throw caution to the wind and produce a heir. Then in the season 5 premiere Bobby suddenly mentions that "Pam's been so high and low" and a few episodes later she's gone so looney she's catatonic and ready to jump off roofs - at that point I'm surprised the writers didn't just throw in that she had a wandering uterus causing her to go insane! Like, I get that it's a set up for them to adopt Kristin's baby but they could've handled it much better wrecking Pam as a character.

IIRC, she wanted to know it was the actual final episode in order to do a reappearance and they couldn't promise her that as it wasn't officially cancelled at that point.

Knots Landing
Kenny and Ginger's decoration in season one is hilarious, especially the whole bean bags/pillows instead of couches, just to show off what a swingin' couple they are! When Kenny's finally kicked out for a bit Ginger apparently went on a splurge and bought herself a couple of proper furniture.

She became a billionaire selling beauty products and didn't need to back-track on her decision to leave 🤷

Ratings from the 70's
What's surprising is that Edge of Night's male demo is nothing special, especially since the story has always been that it was male skewing.

Knots Landing
I mean, they obviously used the same sets for Karen and Abby's house and the Ewing and Avery house in the first seasons at least.

JR was afraid of Gary because he was unpredictable and he couldn't control him; if Gary actually ever got his [!@#$%^&*] together he felt like he would be a force to be reckoned with. Hence why he wanted Gary out and away from Southfork. He even said as much. In comparison, Bobby was predictable and he could calculate his moves. So much he mortaged her beloved Southfork in a risky deal and constantly tried to chase away her two other sons I think people confuse Larry and Linda's chemistry with JR and Sue Ellen loving each other; I don't think JR was capable of love. If anything it seemed more like both very obsessively possessive and couldn't stand the thought of the other finding happiness elsewhere. They were by all accounts a toxic couple and in real life you'd probably want them both as far away from each other as possible. Sue Ellen was the wife JR deserved though. I've always said that there's two ways to end the series - either with JR getting everything he thinks he wants - ie Ewing Oil and dominance in business, but his personal life ends up wrecked because of it and ultimately ends up alone on top. Or he loses Ewing Oil, but finds personal happiness. But he can't have both.

Well, you know, except for all those times he tried to literally destroy Gary, Bobby and their wives.

I think the simpler reason is that it's just cheaper to produce one hour of a show as opposed to two half hour shows, hence the failed 90 minute Another World experiment.

I love how even when they dress Dee Hall up in 80s gear she's wearing a damn suit.

Falcon Crest
I love that part because it always makes me laugh so hard 😅 In the season premiere they completely forget that the winery was flooded with wine, but there's no sign of it in the follow up scenes.

Falcon Crest
They actually DID want her back for a few scenes to die on camera but she turned them down lol.

Falcon Crest
It honestly seems like CBS nixing the nazi treasure storyline really just gave an incredible blow to the show which it never recovered fully from. This start-and-stop storylines really culminates in season 7 when Freilich seemingly can't expand a storyline beyond three episodes; Maggie's supposed "alcoholism" being a prime example. She basically becomes a full-blown alcoholic overnight and then recovers just as quickly.

I've been pretty sure Stacey has been wearing a wig for a while now. I assume she might not want to have the long blonde Kristen hair herself, while the show seemingly thinks that's how the character should look.

Falcon Crest
It's ridiculous to put anything on a single character - it's more that they tried to revamp the show in season 8 to make it more grounded and when that didn't work they once again brought in a new team in season 9 that also had to deal with major budget cuts because of the ratings falling off. I do love season 9 though, even if it should've been called "Falcon Crest: The New Generation" and sold as a spin-off. Genele cracks me up.

Actually, CWs app supposedly had more cleaned up episodes for a while, but for some reason they haven't put those up again. I never watched those myself, so can't verify, but it would be odd that they haven't put those up elsewhere again.

Knots Landing
I don't think they exactly "knew" from the start, even if you argue writing's was on the wall. Shows back then weren't given final seasons - they were produced to go on indefinitively and it likely wasn't until Jacobs & co sat down and talked with CBS late in the season that they realised that there would've been even further cuts for a 15th season, so they decided to end it. I assume that's why there was a bit of a gap between the 17th episode and the final two.

Have they defined Dmitri's sexuality yet? Peter Porte's gay so I guess Ron could re-heat the old "obsessed DiMera" trope and have him either constantly kidnap either Andrew or Paul 😅
-
Days: May 2023 Discussion Thread
It's odd how many DiMera's are currently on the rooster to be honest - to the point it might be time to clear out some of them as I don't think we need as many of them as there currently are.

Bill Bell Jr. and Maria Arena Bell sell Malibu mansion to Jay-Z and Beyonce
I kind of assumed that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are going to tear down the house and only bought it due to the location. Maybe it's the those early Tina-designed Destiny's Child outfits that skewers my opinion, but I've never taken Beyoncé for the minimalist type.
