"Secret Storm" memories.
The story of Ms. Crawford's appearance is that her daughter (who played the contract role of Joan Boreman Kane) was unable to play the role due to unplanned surgery. The show hired Joan Crawford to play the role for two episodes. This casting was front-page news (at least in my town), and the show was probably happy with the amount of publicity that the show received.

And when I mentioned his acting, I was referring to The Secret Storm. Later, the show wrote in Ursula Blackwell's son. I am not sure who played this role.

The Doctors Discussion Thread
to amybrickwallace, I believe that Clarice Blackburn and Joel Crothers may have also appeared on both The Doctors and (certainly) Dark Shadows. Robert Colbert and Ramsey Mosteller worked on both shows. Robert Costello produced both of them.

Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
Ms. Lyman said that she based the character of Opal on All My Children on Elly Jo from The Edge of Night. I don't know what you would consider the first "big" role for Ms. Lyman. She appeared on A World Apart prior to being on The Edge of Night. I think that she had possibly been on Search for Tomorrow or Love of Life (I forget which) prior to that. She was also on One Life to Live on which she may have played a nun.

"Secret Storm" memories.
It was before he was on either The Doctors or had appeared in Capote's A Christmas Memory. After all of that, he joined the cast of The Secret Storm. He was nice in appearance, but his acting was not all that great to me. After leaving The Secret Storm, I never saw him or heard of him again.

Donnie Melvin also played Johnny Fletcher as a child on The Guiding Light.

Love Is a Many Splendored Thing
I found mention of the character of Cathy Loomis on the show, as played by Holly Peters. I have no information on how the character fit into the storyline.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
It is true that Ms. Nixon originally thought of Ava as bi-racial. However, for some reason (perhaps on the opinion of co-creator Mr. Marland), this storyline was discarded. Ms. Nixon, instead, used it on All My Children when it was discovered that Opal had once had an affair with an African-American man and that there was a son as a result. (I think the son was named Adrian.) It is also true that Lillian Hayman was offered the role of Minnie Madden. I read an interview with Louise Stubbs in which she said that she had been all but cast as Minnie, but, then, the show was suddenly strongly considering another actress (who was Lillian Hayman) for the role. The possible casting of Ms. Hayman was not originally intended. However, executive producer (Paul Rauch) disliked Ellen Holly in the Carla role on One Life to Live. He told her that her voice (which was a natural wonder in my opinion) was horrible and that she should begin seeing a voice coach. He also said that she should cut her hair because most lawyers her age would have short hair. (I tend to agree with this; Ms. Holly looked much better after she had her hair cut.) Ms. Holly learned that she was being dismissed. It is said that Ms. Hayman was told by someone in the parking garage that her parking space would no longer be reserved because she had just taped her final episode of the show. Ms. Hayman was quite (and justifiably so) upset and hearing this. She knew that there were many months left on her contract with ABC. She then contacted Agnes Nixon, and Ms. Nixon told her that she no longer had any association with One Life to Live. At this point, Ms. Hayman was offered a role (Minnie) on Loving. I was/am a huge fan of the late Ms. Hayman, but I think that Louise Stubbs was superb in the role as Minnie. What I would have loved to see is this (on All My Children): Frankie Faison was seen as the man who had the affair with Opal. The show should hired Ellen Holly as the wife of Frankie Faison. He could have been a man who was constantly asking Opal and Palmer for things, blackmailing Opal. Ellen Holly would have played his long-suffering wife. She could have been in cahoots with her husband, or she could have been sympathetic to Opal's situation. This would have been similar to the character of Ray and Bertha who had been introduced on All My Children in the 1970s. (And later, when Reggie was introduced and adopted by Jackson, he could have been a relative of Opal's son. By the way, I think that Reggie should have gone into the ministry and have been said to be was entering Divinity School when he was written off All My Children.)

All My Children Tribute Thread
She was only brought back for a few episodes. Taylor Miller (the actress's name) thought that if she made a good impression that the show may possibly hire her back in a contract role. She had some scenes with David Canary (as Adam) in which she flirted with him. (Mr. Canary had good chemistry with most other performers.) These scenes were very good, but the show did not bring her back.

I think that Harding Lemay, who was ending his time on Another World, could have worked wonders on Love of Life. It is too bad that this hiring did not happen.

Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
Dashiell Mortell has been killed in an automobile accident. His grandmother, Lee Grant, played Rose Peabody on Search for Tomorrow (and was later on the primetime serial Peyton Place as Stella Chernak.) Actress Dinah Manoff's son has died. his Grandmother is actress Lee Grant BAINBRIDGE ISLAND — A Bainbridge Island man was killed in a nine-vehicle crash Saturday while traveling back to school at Washington State University. Dashiell Mortell, 19, was a passenger in a vehicle taking five WSU students back to Pullman ahead of the first day of spring semester classes Monday. The vehicle flipped on its side after it hit another vehicle that was slowing around a wreck on Interst...ate 90 near Cle Elum. Mortell was killed when a truck then struck the roof of the vehicle he was in, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Brian Moore. That crash set off a six-vehicle wreck caused by drivers attempting to avoid the first crash. Two Bremerton natives and a Vancouver man from the vehicle traveling to Pullman were taken to a Kittitas County hospital with minor injuries. Another Vancouver man from the vehicle was taken to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Moore said the crash was caused by driving too fast for the conditions and noted that there had been significant snowfall in the area. Mortell was a 2015 graduate of Bainbridge High School. He had been involved with student government at the school, rowed with the Bainbridge Island Rowing Club and participated in theater productions with Bainbridge Performing Arts. Mortell was the son of well-known actress and islander Dinah (Mortell) Manoff and Arthur Mortell. Manoff was a fixture in the “Golden Girls” spin-off show, “Empty Nest,” and made appearances in several movies throughout her acting career, including in a role in “Grease.” The teen followed in his mother’s footsteps in acting, perhaps most fittingly as a greaser in BPA's 2012 production of "The Outsiders." The show was produced and directed by Manoff. The young actor's stage presence took that show to a different level, BPA Executive Director Dominique Cantwell said. The young man could fill the stage with magnetic energy, she added. “He had the talent and the ability for those skills to take him absolutely anywhere on or off the stage,” she said. “He had just this enormous spark and potential that anybody watching could see from a mile away.” Mortell was widely beloved in the island's theater community and beyond, Cantwell said. “He had talent and intensity and generosity," she said. "It was just endless, and it will live on in those who loved him on and offstage.” Funeral arrangements for Dashiell Mortell are pending.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
MissLlanviewPA, I think that Gary Tomlin was one of the best executive producers that this show had. I don't think that he should have been replaced when he was. There was one thing that I disliked about his time producing the show - I did not like the animation. However, I know that a lot of viewers did, and I could accept it.

All My Children Tribute Thread
Around the time that Cindy and the AIDS storyline were being introduced, there was a character who was posing as a clairvoyant or faith healer. This character (I honestly do not remember the gender, but I am thinking that it was a female character) was appealing to Phoebe, who was concerned for Hillary and others in her extended family. I cannot remember the name of the character or the performer who played the role. Does anyone remember?
