  1. Jeanne definitely spoke out that she hated the story. Making Devon Katherine's grandson was adding insult to injury. It was just the culmination of one misjudged story decision after another. Having Devon as a billionaire is a story dead end. I proposed the same outcome years ago. And Katherine discovered her daughter became a nun and devoted herself to good works before dying. That would have wrapped up that story for good. Instead we had Tucker, who happened to be Katherine's son, and happened to have an affair with Harmony, who gave birth to Devon, who happened to be adopted by Neil etc
  2. Thanks for that clip.It really illustrates how the directing was part of the story telling. We even had that 'soap' shot where both face the camera, so one is actually talking to the others back. I think, (wrongly) that has been deemed as old fashioned. My point is that once upon a time, there was dry blocking and dress rehearsal etc so the actors/camera people had time to co-ordinate all these moves and make changes etc. Whereas now I think they only have a quick run through and then tape, so there isn't the time available to execute the director's vision. Occasionally there are some interesting angles used but overall nothing of this level.
  3. One thing I noticed in that 86 episode was the camera work and staging. Obviously, as they had more time then, the actors and camera moved around quite a bit more, which added to the visual and dramatic impact. Nowadays, everybody pretty much stands still and the camera angles are static throughout the scene. Also, the constant music underscore added to the drama.
  4. When was the last time Maggie was at the Hortons for the ornament ceremony? She was apart of that family for years...but that seems to have been erased.
  5. Marland spent time establishing the Reardons as a new family but subsequent writers were more interested in their own creations and slowly the Reardons (and the Bauers) were dropped. There was still plenty of potential for those characters eg Tony,Jim but Pam Long and others were hell bent on pushing the Shaynes and the Coopers. The same thing happened to the Matthews. McKinnons and Loves on AW.
  6. In contrast Marland said he enjoyed writing 'Young Love' stories because that very lack of life experience would lead them to make less wise, but forgiveable choices. Also, that kept the plot bubbling along. Older viewers would tut, tut and muse on the folly of youth while younger viewers would eat it up.
  7. Joan Lorring Young Dr Malone(radio) Tracey Adams Malone
  8. A thought. As much as I hate SORASING and think Phyllis id disposable at this point... Why not bring in her grandaughter Lucy? She is roughly the same age as Faith and Moses, so could provide some much needed oomph to their non story. She could land on Phyllis' doorstep and demand her gran steps up to provide some support. Have Phyllis feel guilty that she hasn't had much interaction. Maybe Daniel returns for a few eps to give some context. While he's in town he could hook up with his ex Lily to provide angst for her and Billy. Of course, Lucy being a spoiler for Faith/Moses would bring Phyllis into conflict with Sharon and Nick,Victor and Nikki. Lots of story possibilities. The big stumbling block is whether the show and La Staff would want Phyllis as a grandmother. What do you think??
  9. Doug Watson came on as Mac in August 74. Mac and Rachel married in Feb 75, so the courtship was brief (in soap terms). Robert and Lenore were married about a year March 74-June 75. Not sure how much time they were a couple before that -most 73?
  10. An astute observation. Lemay's characters seemed to be attracted quickly and just as ready to break up and move on. As one quote put it, you watched to see what is happening , rather than what will happen.
  11. I gave up after the Tuscan wedding and tuned back in for new Chance (miscast) and Jill's return. But there is nothing to get me to watch again. The dreadful cheap production and the awful stories/wasted potential...
  12. Did Shane and Kimberley on Days ever get back together? Might have been nice for Days 50th to have Bill and Laura remarry.
  13. If onlt that decision had not been made. Then to resurrect that character and waste Gins Tognini. Then to bring Stafford back again... GH Dr Mark Dante. Gerald Gordon was no longer the audience draw that brought him to GH in the first place nor was Dr Dante a cherished character, so it was definitely a surprise when he re-appeared.
  14. Fred J Scollay As The World Turns Emmett Harris (according to Soap Bubbles article in TD thread) 1976?
  15. They got some things wrong there. Pamela Toll as Sandy Wilson? Tony Ferra? That's the first time I've ever seen in print that John Rice was Steve's cousin and that Toni and Billy are half siblings. Until the reruns were screened, those two connections were never known, unless you watched and remembered from original screenings.
  16. Days Anna DiMera in 2007 after 21 years. That was a Hogan Sheffer move I believe. Somebody was really looking at history at that point.
  17. Jim McMullen Pilots/Proposals Scruples Greg Dunne 1981 Roy Thinnes Pilots/Proposals Scruples Bennett Hall 1981 Jessica Walter Pilots/Proposals Scruples Maggie McGregor 1981 Kale Brown Pilots/Proposals Scruples Kenny Higgins 1981 Walter Brooke Pilots/Proposals Scruples Dr Rutgers 1981
  18. That got me thinking about ATWT under Marland, and that he always made a thing of respecting history he never actually brought back characters from the past. Yes, Penny, Don and others made guest appearances but I think James and Susan Srewart were the only characters that came back for long term stints.
  19. Casey Allen Another World TV announcer 1967
  20. Requests Joseph Taylor Lisa D Brenner Chantal Contouri Donna Bacalla
  21. Jay Barney His ATWT role of Ed Lang (a detective) continued into 1961. He had 2 other roles that year Secret Storm Model agency manager Brighter Day Nightclub owner
  22. Geraldine Court came on as Jennifer in late 1971. Irna Phillips official return was Jan 72 and a short while later Gillian Spencer became Jennifer. I wonder was this because Irna was not happy with Geraldine as Jennifer? Or had she in fact been working on ATWT before the official announcement and created the role of Jennifer? Many questions and unfortunately no concrete answers.
  23. I don't recall Alex having anything to do with Marie or the Hortons at that time. Once Jessica left, that connection seems to have been forgotten. Alex never scored an ornament on the Horton tree?
  24. Janice looks fine, but I'm not sure that dress is the best look for her. Thanks for that. The larger color pic looks much better. Tom left Y&R for primetime. He booked a pilot called Time Travellers with another ex soaper Sam Groom but it didn't sell. he was one of the original team on Entertainment Tonight but was dropped. He never landed a series so I guess the chance to return to daytime was tempting. Maxwell was going to be the next big villian, but it seems plans changed when Joe Mascolo agreed to return as Stefano and Tom was out of a job.
