Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I just managed to find NYC online and watched the entire season: It felt a lot like an E! show attempting to do a housewives show. Ten years ago. Jenna, Erin and Jessel felt NY to me. They could all have been part of the original show and I want to see more of them. Someone should tell Brynn that Samantha Jones was not a bimbo. (She reminds me of Melanie Smith for some reason. The way she looks, not the way she acts.) Ubah is stunning and she is friend material. She doesn't share anything and her moment was a stupid fight. Sai reminds me of Tahiry on Love and Hip Hop. Her initial cute persona didn't work out for her and by the end of the season she was a mess. I didn't get enough NY from this show.

When and Why did Soaps Start Making Fun of Themselves? And has That Trend Led to the End??
Also... Desperate Housewives. It was meant to be a soap opera, yet it was winning awards as a comedy show. People thought that it might work in daytime as well. Look at CW's Dynasty. It never took itself seriously. There is no point in watching a soap that doesn't take itself seriously (and that was my problem with Santa Barbara at a point where things got too crazy).

GH: Character Recast
In all fairness, there doesn't seem to be a race or ethnicity casting problem. It is just an odd choice. Like recasting Susan Lucci with Catherine Hickland as Erica in 1982. But it is always fun to be offended 🥰

GH: Character Recast
He must be someone's father. Do we know who the boy's mother was? I just read thata little Stone was autistic.

GH: Character Recast
Does the name Jagger Cates mean anything in today's GH universe? Probably not, since he is John Cates now. Was Jagger involved with any of the ladies currently on the show?

GH: Character Recast
May I add Kelly Menighan Hensley as Emily Stewart on ATWT?

GH: Character Recast
Ι haven't been this offended since John McCook was replaced by Dennis Cole on Y&R and Kristen Vigard by Jennifer Cook on GL. Soaps are so over.

1990s trends
The "primetime" look. The City and Sunset Beach (at least for a while) did it. In my opinion it never works in soaps, at least not for me. That's a reason I never got into the UK soaps.

GH: January 2024 Discussion Thread
Maxie has been through so many crazy and random stories which left her with three children from three different men. For me this is always a sign that a character has not much story left, until one of the kids grow up. She is a familiar face with a different vibe than most soap actresses her age and she would be just fine as a C character, someone like Amy Vining. She is not someone I see and think, she needs to go NOW. There other characters and actors for that in my list.

GH: January 2024 Discussion Thread
Sorry but I can't hate FV. GH is the only soap that doesn't feel dead soap walking, or milk that you have left in the fridge for years. He tries new things, he respects the veterans, is on budget and has people talking. Would I like a new opening? Yes. Better sets? Of course. But I wouldn't trade these things for a new bored producer with late 90s Days of Our Lives aesthetics who just wants a check for a while. (Would I mind someone like Wendy Riche, Susan Bedsow-Horgan, Ginger Smith or a back from the dead Robert Calhoun though? No.) As for KS.. The poor woman is playing a C character at this point, but I guess many of you can't stand watching a fat chick with issues who can't find clothes her size that make her feel good. I am sure many of you might have wanted Jesse Brewer recast with a more glamorous and less problematic actress in the early 80s?

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
I adored Ava Lazar. She was leading lady material. The other Santanas not so much. Although I must admit that I found Wanda de Jesus a strong presence. Gina's entire arch could/should have been given to Santana.

😍 Another 90s trend: the steamy sex scene. Sax, satin sheets and all.

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
Wow, your Santa Barbara is fascinating. It almost reads like an East Coast soap. Perhaps that was the show's real problem. It was not meant to be as "simple" and one-dimensional as it ended up being.

Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
I have seem some random episodes where Draper and April discuss moving to Oakdale. What was that all about? I am obsessed with late 70's-1980 episodes. Such a "grown up", modern soap. Friends, co-workers, couples, crime, mystery and of course Raven living her life unapologetically like a man.

1990s trends
The 90s had the primetime specials as it has already been said in the 80s thread. The psychotic obsessive woman who became crazier than ever. A Latino invasion with new families and romantic leads. Everyone trying to outreily James E. Reily with insane, outlandish posts. The teens become more prominent. The Melrose Place aesthetics. Even NY soaps got a California vibe.
