B&B/Y&R: March 2024 Spoilers
So true. For years and years the narrative was Hope was saintly like Taylor while Steffy was trashy/slutty like Brooke. I remember Thudley even bragging about the irony of it all. That all changed first with the Wyatt/Hope/Liam triangle back in 2014 and then Steffy being single for most of 2018-2020 before settling down with Finn, but only after she whored out 2015-17 between all three Spencer men.

B&B/Y&R: March 2024 Spoilers
LOL. Ten to one Sheila pops up for the final seconds of B&B’s 3/20 episode for a “shocking” March Madness cliffhanger no one saw coming…😏 The writing has been extremely wildly inconsistent. We have Steffy bold enough to over to Sheila’s and pop her in the face, and put her in her place yet two episodes later Steffy is terrified to death of the dark and of Sheila?

Y&R: February 2024 Discussion Thread
Haha I know you’re behind so I didn’t want to spoil too much but for three days in a row now Ashley/Tucker/Audra has been the highlight. Actually something I wanted to applaud was Hayley Erin’s Grace actually having rare raw emotional moments with Cole and Victoria, which was a nice change of pace. However… ……knowing JG though I already have the sense Claire is going to get lumped into the same category as Chelsea, Chloe, and Sally. Major yikes!!!

Y&R: February 2024 Discussion Thread
So true, and aside from Keemo I remember the show just casually mentioning David Sherman (Mitchell’s gay son introduced back in 2013) and Lydia Summers were dead too. Onto today 2/28….. It’s official, Ashley has slide into Tricia Dennison territory type of crazy. Not crazy enough that everyone can pick up on it, but crazy enough we know she’s crazy. Actually Ashley breaking down and kissing Tucker in front of Audra gave me vibes of Tricia breaking down and kissing Tony on New Year’s Eve 1999. JG did a pretty bad job of Billy’s DID story a few years back so I don’t really want to see another split personality story at all especially with Ashley, I don’t need to see another “Night Hope” story on daytime ever again, but if Tucker has gaslighted Ashley to the point she’s crazy you know what I wouldn’t mind that kind of old school story telling but only if Tucker got a major comeuppance afterwards.

Tank Jobs and Sabotage
True story around that time there were some messages boards and e-mail chain messages (remember those?) dissecting an e-mail hoax/urban legend claiming the infamous atheist Madalyn Murray O’Hair was suing CBS to get the show cancelled because it focused too much on God or something like that and that’s why the show moved or something. What the hoax didn’t disclose was O’Hair had been literally missing for years at that point and also misspelled her name. Not long after the hoax was discredited O’Hair’s body was discovered. I have to agree, I know I had stopped watching at some point 1995-ish as years later when I saw the Lily Tomlin era in reruns I didn’t remember that at all.

Four Seasons and Done
I had been interested in starting this topic for a while now, but I was wondering if we could dig into shows that lasted four seasons and then done due to various reasons. Some shows start off big but ended with a whimper. Shows strived for that magic number of 100 for a hope of getting syndication deals, but so many failed to reach it. Obviously in the days of streaming that’s no longer relevant but it’s still notable. Back in the 80’s two of my favorite shows Scarecrow and Mrs. King and The Equalizer suffer this fate, in the the 90’s a good number of sitcoms on both NBC (from Dear John to Caroline in the City) and CBS (Evening Shade for example ) saw this occur along with notable cult dramas as well. In more recent times shows like Ugly Betty and Revenge ended up being four at done. Just curious on anyone else’s thoughts and examples.

YR: show gets 4 year renewal
That’s the current speculation: https://tvline.com/news/young-and-the-restless-renewed-4-years-season-51-1235174734/ To quote: A CBS insider tells TVLine that B&B‘s current renewal pact — which, like Y&R, expires this May — includes an additional option year. The source adds that said option will be exercised, thus cementing B&B‘s existence through the 2024-25 TV season.

Y&R: February 2024 Discussion Thread
Okay today’s 2/27’s episode had a fantastic additional confrontation between Audra and Ashley. Not spoil it too much but this was probably the nastiest we’ve seen Audra yet. No doubt at all now that Ashley is loony and I like ED is clearly giving us exaggerated mannerisms to show us something is not right with Ashley. Good to see Mamie again. Good to see MM again but did I hear right? Naya has passed away? Good god renewal or not Josh Griffith can go [!@#$%^&*] himself for wasting all the potential of Ptosha Storey and the character just like that.

YR: show gets 4 year renewal
As others have stated, I’m happy to see Y&R get another multi year renewal as there was actually part of me that thought this was the Y&R might be a goner, or just get a one year renewal or get moved to Paramount+. But of course, does this also mean four more years of Josh Griffith? 😵💫 Unless this renewal puts JG in a good mood and ignites a long forgotten spark, it’s wayyyy past time for JG to have left the building. Hoping this renewal does bring some good changes sooner than later. Not expecting miracles, but this is something positive for a show that still has so much untapped potential.

Y&R: February 2024 Discussion Thread
While B&B is busy imploding and inspiring righteous indignation, I see it Y&R was just listless as ever today🤣 Chance as an instant businessman doesn’t not work and it’s fairly awkward to watch. FAIL. Tessa giving up her singing career to manage Society and have goofy moments with Mariah? FAIL. Abby on a board of directors while still being at Society…? FAIL. Esther snooping and eavesdropping around Chancellor Winters could be interesting but wasting it on a faux “drama” moment between Deven and Billy just wasn’t interesting at all. @Taoboiand @Antoyne I never finished up Thursday and Friday so I’m definitely going back to see this Ashley/Audra scene. Because the only bright spot in today’s show (2/26) was the ending scene.

B&B: Actress OUT!
LOL!!! I’m just trying to figure out how Thudley will explain a future Sheila return and twist. My guess is Steffy only “killed” an android that Sheila built to resemble her. 😏 LOL!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Actually all this time I would have wished that Sheila killed Liam with some poisonous bees Lance style after learning he was going to hurt Finn by stealing Steffy back. 😁

B&B: February 2024 Discussion Thread
I agree 100% with this. It seems odd as Sheila was largely backburned for months now and the characters were moving on and away, yet suddenly here in the past week it back a hot topic again out of the blue and went to the extreme with no build up or fanfare? And where is this story going from here? Will it be all forgotten in a month’s time when we get some other ridiculous story shoved down our throats? Reminds me of the random Xander return that started the year out that went nowhere. Thudley is a no talent hack who offers NOTHING anymore.
-
B&B: Actress OUT!
Such an excellent point for sure. Sheila’s 2017-18 return was so mishandled badly even worse than the 2003 one. Her current return started out intriguing but then the whole champagne label switch-a-roo that lead to a body count was too much, as was the toe and the stuff with Bill. Yikes! I do agree this probably isn’t the end for KB as Sheila at all, wouldn’t be surprised if she’s back in a few months as Thudley’s latest “big show changing twist!”

ALL: They Almost Became
I don’t think Lanier is bland at all as an actress rather it is Griffith’s writing that made the character bland. Lanier’s first year completely revitalized a once dead end character and made the character more mature, edgier, and bitchier, but apparently that was too much drama for Griffith to handle so he regressed the character back to a weeping whiner like Hunter King played. We were flat out robbed of AL having a rivalry with ZS. Lanier is fine in this role, if the show could use her correctly, especially given AL had shown to be formidable towards ZS, SW, and CH while eating Stafford alive. Given Y&R’s track record, “Experienced Emmy winners” there’s a high chance Alderson and Ainsworth both would have been DOA flops.

Y&R: February 2024 Discussion Thread
I’ve been waiting for this for years and years but instead all we ever get are either outrageous character destroying stories (Sharon, Neil) or characters going inexplicably crazy, disastrous stunts that end up failing (Clear Springs, Newman Towers, Volcanoes), absurdly killing off characters, and then a sheer aversion to any drama (aside from Griffith remember Passanate’s unremarkable and boring tenure?) Network interference or not it is clear as daylight none of these hacks were ever capable of writing compelling even when it came to something simple.

Falcon Crest
Meant to say thanks for the clarification especially about Bonanza. As it turned out it was the 60 min Wagon Train that briefly expanded to 90 mins for one season when it began airing in color ad a way to compete with The Virginian. Now back to Falcon Crest…

Falcon Crest
This what I see on my screen, notice the “leaving soon” is only listed on the lower one under “Drama TV” and not continue watching:

Amazon to shut down FREEVEE
More at Deadline and Variety about the rumor that’s been quashed (for now?) https://deadline.com/2024/02/amazon-insists-no-changes-to-freevee-despite-reports-of-shutdown-streaming-1235832878/amp/ https://variety.com/2024/digital/news/amazon-freevee-shutting-down-denies-1235918326/amp/ Seems the rumor got started off a clickbait article on AdWeek.

Falcon Crest
Oh no doubt I agree, it just becomes more aggravating when you have something like Falcon Crest, which never got a full DVD release and hadn’t been on a legitimate service since the SoapNet era just get hauled off or in the example among many of LA Law, where internationally the whole series is on DVD but not in Region 1. I feel like FC could’ve just gotten a complete series on release years ago even if it was at a loss, Idk. It almost reminds of how back when Disney would do limited releases of their older material be it rescreening or VHS limited time only releases while advertising ominously “Get it before it goes back into the Disney vault!!” lol. Granted some things will always be a classic and some things are better left in the past. For every I Love Lucy, Perry Mason, and Andy Griffith people clamor for, there’s always shows like Hazel, Ironside, and Medical Center that no one is clamoring for minus a few skeletal hands rising from the grave 🤣 Off-topic, As for westerns well those were the escapist adventure/fantasy dramas for many in the the 50’s and 60’s that were monster hits and served as a bit of a precursor to daytime soaps as they expanded from 30 minutes to 60 minutes to even 90 minutes in the cases of the Virginian and I think Bonanza temporary…? Maybe if Gunsmoke had just written and serialized a growing relationship between Marshal Dillon and Miss Kitty…
