  1. If there are language/cultural barriers, they are more easily overcome when the content is simpler. That’s not a secret. Not that complex series don’t travel at all, but it’s one reason why Hollywood has shifted much of its strategy as markets globalized. That’s not an insult to international audiences. They tend to prefer character-driven content that’s locally produced generally, as Americans do.
  2. This show is so elementary-school. Actually, there are shows made for children that are more complex. I’m sure it helps international audiences understand what’s going on when everything is so blunt and schematic. Carter standing there like a lump as Paris discussed her wedding dreams just shows how little the show regards either character. Neither is written as a full person.
  3. Bleh. Chadam redux. Snooze. That pairing only worked somewhat with Justin Hartley as Adam, yet they keep trying to make fetch happen. That goes for the whole character of Chelsea, who is somehow still around more than halfway through the year of our Lord 2024. Sick of the sob story. Again, Mal Young made the right decision to bounce MCE, as talented as she is. One of the few good decisions he made during his disastrous tenure, and even then it was long overdue. Kyle’s bitter falling out with Diane (and Jack) could have potential, but like everything on Y&R it feels constrained by JG’s shallow writing and low budget.
  4. I hope Sonja’s story doesn’t end tragically, but there are lots of reports of her out-of-control drinking from fans who’ve attended her shows and appearances as well. https://pagesix.com/2024/07/03/entertainment/jeff-lewis-sonja-morgans-drunk-behavior-was-worse-than-what-aired-on-wwhl-15th-anniversary/
  5. Rublev also out in the first round:
  6. I remember that Lori McNeil match. I was a huge Monica Seles fan and loathed Steffi, so I was thrilled. Marketa loses all 2,000 of her points, which is a gag. And to lose in straights to a young player who herself lost in R1 last year.
  7. And they left a visible stock-footage watermark on Sasha Calle’s intro slide a few years ago. The meticulousness that Y&R is known for has dipped dramatically.
  8. Yikes at Marketa going out in the first round. 😱
