Let's assume for the moment that individuals have indeed threatened harm against Kavanaugh and his family. Do you mean to tell me that Kavanaugh, the "carpool dad" who coaches his daughter's basketball team, would stay the course, even if it meant subjecting his wife and children to further threats and humiliation? Maybe his family urged him not to withdraw his nomination and that's why he said what he said. That's always possible. But, having lived for thirty-three years with a loving father who would have thrown himself on top a live grenade to protect me and my older brother, I can't see how any husband and father in his situation would think anything was more important than keeping his loved ones out of harm's way. IMO, any other dad would say, "To hell with it, the SCOTUS ain't worth subjecting my kids to this bullshit!" and they'd withdraw. But, maybe that's just me. I was hoping the same thing. These women are about to enter the lion's den. May God have mercy on their souls. "For the time being" being, of course, the operative words. I still think that man's on his way out. And if it doesn't happen after their meeting on Thursday -- between them and Ford/Ramirez's testimonies, it's gonna be a helluva news day -- it'll happen very soon afterward. Forgot to do this earlier, but thanks, you two, for answering my questions!

Christmas lights. Just before the holiday season. Good one, Shaggy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't someone here (marceline?) point out that even if Trump were to pardon Manafort and Cohen, they would still face charges from NY state, which he couldn't pardon them from? Furthermore, isn't it true that NY would be allowed to use Manafort and Cohen's arranged testimonies as evidence of their guilt?

So, Kavanaugh was allegedly part of a date-rape ring? God. What a shitheel. Thus far, he's been described in all the anecdotes as pitifully drunk (and thus probably unable to become aroused). But, what if, on at least one occasion, he wasn't drunk and/or he was able to penetrate one of his victims anyway? That's what keeps running through my mind about this case. (That, and "Kavanaugh secret child" for some reason.) At some point, I feel that some woman -- maybe it's Avenatti's client, maybe it's someone else -- is going to come forward and say, "No, Brett Kavanaugh did more than try to force my clothes off or make me touch his genitals with my face, he literally held me down, tore off my clothes and came inside me!" (Sorry to be so graphic, by the way.)

Ironically, Kavanaugh worked on the infamous Kenneth Starr's team. The very same team that worked to bring down Bill Clinton with the Monica Lewinsky/Paula Jones controversy. So, like Ratt once said, "what goes around, comes around."

That is so appalling, DD. I don't know what to say, except I'm sorry that you (and other women) had to endure that nightmare. Unfortunately, they do. Another perfect example of people deliberately misinterpreting scripture -- "submitting," in that context, is definitely not what evangelicals say it means -- to support their own, butthead beliefs.

Very. "Trump said this is why they should have been fighting the Ford allegations from the beginning." That might have stopped some women from coming forward, but it wouldn't have stopped them all. "Trump is calm [...] and sticking with Kavanaugh." And here I thought there was no honor among p***y thieves.

Of course, they would want (again) to accelerate. It's no secret the GOP wants him on the SCOTUS before any more fit hits the shan. That way, it won't matter how many come forward, because it'll be too late to do anything about it.

Allegations made by that "Tiger Mom" lady, no less. ICAM, Carl. Before this week is over, I guarantee we'll see the number rise into the double digits. Sexual predators are like me at an all-you-can-eat buffet: they don't stop until management cuts them off.

Man, Brett really needs to stop drinking, lol.

It seems that Vee (and Mr. Avenatti) would have to agree with you. Let me guess: Brett was "incoherently drunk" when he (allegedly) assaulted Mr. Avenatti's client as well. See, that's the trouble with guys like Brett Kavanaugh. Under "normal" circumstances, they might be fine, upstanding people. But, as soon as they hit the old bottle, it's goodbye Dr. Jekyll, hello Mr. Hyde. I'm sure Mrs. Kavanaugh knows this only too well.

I always swat away that man like the gnat that he is and then move on. Ronan's on this one, too? Fasten your seat belts, boys and girls, and hold on for dear life! This roller coaster ain't done yet!

Obviously, I don't blame any of these "tweeters" for extracting humor out of something so ludicrous. (Honestly, who keeps calendars from 36 years ago? When they were still in high school?) Neither is President Orange Creamsicle. I'm kidding. But I see your point, DD.

Meanwhile, I'm still trying to figure out why I would stick on my desktop a Post-It that says only "October 17th." (I'm sure it's supposed to remind me of something...but what?) Just what the nation's been waiting for: little Brett Kavanaugh's review of "Johnny Tremain." As opposed to whose record? Trump's?

Right. That was the central source of conflict between Clint and Asa (and between Asa and Bo). Linda Gottlieb and Michael Malone made a serious error in making Clint so homophobic during that storyline. I feel like that, plus CR's offscreen troubles that kept him away from the show for awhile, really helped TPTB lose sight of who or what Clint had been up to the point.

The soap opera writers' discussion
IA. In its heyday, AMC had a marvelous sense of humor, and I think the Dobsons could have revived some of that, had they ever been approached about taking over, and allowed to write without interference.

Ah sookie sookie now! But, you know, Kavanaugh could force Kamala Harris to give him a blow job at gunpoint, in front of the entire committee, and they'd still confirm him. (Not that Sister Harris would comply, mind you. That's one bullet she'll gladly take.)

The soap opera writers' discussion
If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: it's truly a shame that Patrick Mulcahey never worked for AMC. I think he would have done some amazing work for that show, but I guess no one at ABC ever thought to see whether he were interested.

Yep. I've said in the past that, in many ways, OLTL never did come back from Eterna. RE: Harry O'Neill -- In retrospect, it's annoying how the writers made it seem as if Pete was Niki's true love, when history says it was Vince Wolek. But, since they had foolishly killed off Vince years before, and they needed that past love to create conflict between Clint and Viki, I guess they had no choice but to rewrite history. ETA: Thanks, j swift, for pointing out the error!
