One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Because, although he had played major league baseball, Tate Harmon was, in fact, blind as a [!@#$%^&*] bat. I thought so, too, but I've since read somewhere that can't-see-for-[!@#$%^&*] Tate actually didn't know. I don't recall Rex "outing" Tate, but I do recall they recreated Tom Cruise's infamous jumping-the-couch moment on "Oprah" when Tate talked about how much he loved Adriana. The last two running simultaneously WAS bad. But, you know, I don't think it would've been bad if OLTL had gradually become another EON. Not that this means anything, but Wikipedia says Tate used Adriana as a cover. So, I have no idea. I've read she was a cover, and I've read she wasn't. Guess that's what I get for just following the show on-and-off through SOD and other magazine summaries.

Ah. God. Those years and those stories have become one big blur. It was so ridiculous to believe that a baseball player/underwear model was also involved in a far-right/white supremacist organization. Might as well have been an international spy. And from what I remember, Chris Beetem was actually PISSED about the change in his character.

And don't forget the One Pure People bullshit. Or did that happen later? Sorry for thinking Haver was the Killing Club killer. Could you really blame me for mixing up my OLTL serial killer storylines, lol? My God, it seemed like there were so many at the time. Reminds me of what Henry Slesar said when ABC hired him to co-HW the show: "It was with the caveat that OLTL was not a crime show; yet, when I joined, there were two murder mysteries running concurrently." I've watched the scenes between Viki and Marcie. I must admit I can detect some meta stuff going on -- not just with Marcie's whining (which she was prone to do a LOT, IMO), but with Viki's comment about the murders in the book being so "barbaric." You could tell not everyone was thrilled with the real-life book.

Apparently, poor people and brown people are not dying off fast enough for the administration. What's next? Sending everyone winter coats infected with bubonic plague?

TBH, I'm not even entirely sold on their "we thought he looked like the guy from UB40!" defense. They were probably just cruising.

"Squi"? "SQUI"?? I'm in Preppie Hell. You were still a pre-teen. Ergo, it doesn't count. Can I just add that I find these screen caps of Kavanaugh simultaneously hilarious and endearing? That drunken attempted rapist really missed his calling as a mime.

Back to the NYT article that Vee linked to earlier: I'm noticing a trend: first, they thought one guy looked like the lead singer from UB40 (which led to a bar fight, as such cases of mistaken identity tend to do); then, they think one of their group is a "heartthrob" because (they thought) he looked like Dr. Noah Drake on GH. I know teenagers are always music-, fashion-, and pop culture-obsessed, but man, these guys must've had shitty tastes if their references included UB40 and Rick [!@#$%^&*] Springfield.

You know, Mr. President, it is possible that someone might have slipped something into her one beer. Or that she's the kind who doesn't need to drink much alcohol before she blacks out. Or that maybe -- just maybe -- the trauma of being attacked by two men caused her to block out psychologically some of the circumstances surrounding that event. You're right, Julia: he never stops being trash.

From the NYT article: Another football player, Mr. Davis, was the heartthrob of the bunch, classmates said. They thought he looked like the singer Rick Springfield. How much alcohol do you have to consume to think Rick Springfield is good-looking?

And people really think Hillary-as-President would have been so much worse? Dunkin' should send all those agents free coffee and donuts.

Anyone who's even skimmed the Bible knows that God loves irony, lol. To think: Whether he is confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and whether he is, in fact, guilty of attempted rape and other crimes, Kav's behavior and rhetoric last week will follow him, if not for the rest of his life, then for years to come. It's all there, on the Internet, never to be erased. Much of this circus might have been avoided, though, had he said, "I drank a lot when I was young, and I didn't always behave responsibly. Although I can't recall for certain whether I assaulted Professor Ford or Ms. Ramirez, as a member of the legal profession, and as a husband and father of two daughters, I apologize now for my actions, and for the damage, both physical and mental, that I have inflicted upon them, and their loved ones. Further, as a Supreme Court Justice, I pledge to ensure that the rights of all victims, male and female, are protected under the U.S. Constitution. I know my words cannot erase the years of torment that Ms. Ford and others have endured. Nevertheless, I pray that they, and the rest of this country, will find it in their hearts to forgive me." Done. He could give that business about "even if I don't have the final votes," because even he knows his confirmation's in the bag; and despite what many think, he is not under trial. Ergo, what harm would it have done just to apologize and avoid this mess? Instead, he subjected us to lie after lie after lie, all to cover up what remains so obvious: that Brett Michael Kavanaugh is a shy loser who can't hold his liquor, who strikes out repeatedly with women*, and who has no business presiding over ANY court, much less the highest court in the land. (*Seriously, was Ashley the first woman not to tell him "no"?) And the sad part -- I mean the REALLY sad part? 1. Clarence Thomas remains on the bench. 2. Even if Kav isn't confirmed, we're sure to get another right-leaning, conservative judge confirmed by Congress, so removing him actually changes nothing in the way of SCOTUS' ideological makeup. 3. Confirmation or no confirmation, the statute of limitations has probably run out on his crimes, so forget about prosecuting him in criminal court, too.

In their minds, it's killing off all the right people. It's moments like these when I am glad for the strong sense of faith that both my parents instilled in me as a child. I couldn't possibly live in this country, with the way things are now, without knowing there IS a God or relying upon Him to see me and my loved ones through.

Bill Maher was on "Alice"? But seriously. I, too, thought it was ridiculous that he would say that Hillary lost because she wouldn't appear on his show. (Has Trump ever appeared on "Real Time," or "Politically Incorrect" for that matter?) If anything, appearing on RT would have cost her even more votes, because BM is just so vile. The only thing that lost Hillary the election was the right's successful campaign to paint her as some combination Imelda Marcos, Margaret Thatcher and your garden-variety human trafficker on "Law & Order: SVU." What IS the truth there? Because, from my perspective, it seems like the Israeli/Palestine situation is more of a "both sides" thing than something like what happened in Charlottesville ever will be. But, I'm not as bright on int'l politics as I'd like to be, so maybe I've got the whole thing wrong?
