I'll believe it when Trump tells me not to believe it.

Once again, I'll quote @marceline: the GOP always wrecks the economy. Always.

I could buy that he didn't know from the start that it wasn't all for a "counterterrorism video," but did he really believe those tactics would protect himself and his loved ones from being attacked? It never occurred to him at any point to stop and ask, "What's REALLY goin' on here, fellas?" Some folks just have no common sense whatsoever.

Bill Cosby
No, this isn't from any of his past 1100 tv shows, but I still think it's apt:

Lanny Davis: "Ladies & gents, if you voted for Trump, listen to the tape and ask yourself, is Donald Trump lying?" Khan: "And then ask yourself, do you care?" The answers, as they say, might surprise you.

Makes me wonder, too. The GOP were, and are, determined to destroy Obama's legacy and win at all costs. Perhaps they really would sell out themselves, and us, to Russia; and perhaps they really did do that sooner than anyone wants to think. Thank you, Jane. At least you have the guts to set the record straight. I wish I had that same courage to do the same with my own mother.

The soap opera writers' discussion
I'm surprised to learn that Joseph Hardy's career in soaps went back as far as it did. My assumption had been he had worked strictly in the theatre before ABC and RYAN'S HOPE came calling.

Why are soap fans so averse to online streaming?
I can't speak for all soap fans, of course, but I think I'm averse to online streaming -- not just w/ soaps, but really all programming in general -- just because I think that the internet is great for a lot of things (such as message boards and social media) but not great for everything. Call me old-fashioned, but I think part of the joy in watching any TV series is knowing when it will be on the TV schedule, and on which network, and then planning my weeks accordingly. (Oh, the memories I have from my childhood, reading the "Fall Preview" issue of TV Guide, and then drawing up little grids that would be, for me, a makeshift day-at-a-glance.) Best example: knowing that no matter HOW crappy my week had been at school, I had KNOTS LANDING every Thursday night at 9pm (CST) to look forward to. From Monday through Thursday afternoon, it gave me drive; and it was also, for me, a signal that Friday night (and the TGIF sitcoms on ABC) and the weekend were literally around the corner.

So, they still want to call it a "white nationalist" rally, huh? Okay. Gotcha, NYT.

I'll bet that when the Obamas read that column, they just laughed and laughed and laughed. (I know I would.) FB is filth, but it's the only social media platform that I will use, and the only way I can keep in touch with many of my former schoolmates.

For a second, I saw the name "Kristin Davis" and I thought, "OMG, what does Charlotte have to do with any of this!?". Well, I know I've said on at least one occasion that I thought Stormygate, and not Russia, could be his undoing. But I consider Susan McDougal kind of a side plot, spun off from Stormygate -- which, in and of itself, could prove to be part of the Proteus-like umbrella story that is Russia. #itallconnects Oh, wouldn't THAT be something. The Clintons and Trump, side by side, in the same damn scandal. I feel like people on the left AND the right would commit mass suicide.

I know there has to be a connection between Karen McDougal, Stormy Daniels and Russia. There just has to be.

You know, say what you will about the Clintons: maybe they ARE a pair of vipers, grasping at every bit of power that floats their way. But when they've been right about something, they've been right. Bill warned Hillary's team that overlooking the WWC in their election strategies would cost them big, and he was right. Hillary warned us (like CRAZY) that Trump would be Putin's puppet in the WH, and SHE was right. They've been right about a lot of other things in years past, but you get my drift. As venal as they are, they also know how to read people pretty darn well. I mean, you don't get to be as powerful as they were and still are by being total hayseeds, amirite?

Tell you what, Sarah, how about if the media, or anyone who isn't a Trumpist, quits going after the Trump administration on every little f**k up, when the Trump administration actually thinks for once before acting or reacting. Oops, too late, here comes another f**k up! Once again, these people are being such hypocrites. Obama couldn't so much as brush his teeth without the right bitching about him.

The Politics Thread
In the past year or so, I've read two articles that quote Obama as saying he worries privately whether his presidency might have happened too early. Which is also what I used to feel, back in the day. I used to think the backlash was the consequence of a nation that wasn't yet ready for a president like him and needed more time to GET ready. Freedom from slavery or from Jim Crow segregation didn't happen in a day, I thought; and just as it took generations of white people in this country to come around (however begrudgingly) toward accepting us as equals in the eyes of the law, they need, or needed, generations more toward accepting the possibility that we could be their leaders as well. But, these days...I dunno...maybe y'all are right: maybe it wouldn't have made any difference whether someone like Obama had come along in 2008, or 2088. Americans, as a whole, were never going to be ready for anyone other than a white, male Christian to be their leader. Even as I sit here, still wondering whether forcing them to get ready is what ultimately brought us to this point. Because, as soon as what they always feared would happen did happen, they appeared ready, willing and able to flush the entire American experiment down the old poop-shoot and offer this country up to the highest bidder -- which, in our case, just happens to be Mother Russia. I don't think I'm being too reactionary when I say that there will come a time, very soon, when we hear the news that all elections will be suspended "until further notice." Which means, of course, Trump will have what he wants most: to be president for life.

...And all because some people couldn't handle a black man being president. Sad. You know, even with all its' many -- and I do mean many -- faults, I still loved living in the United States of America. It's just a shame that I had to watch it die during my lifetime.

Agree! Trump's comments and performance were embarrassing (and probably treasonous), but not at all startling if you've been following along. And if these people now expect the GOP to do anything about it -- boy, do I have news for them!

GH: Classic Thread
It's weird to think a former writer for "The Honeymooners" and "The Phil Silvers Show" also worked on GH. It's also weird that Pat Falken Smith was involved in neither the beginning of the Ice Princess storyline (since, as you say, A.J. Russell pitched it) or in how it turned out (since Thom Racina -- or rather, one of his novels -- ended up being the one to finish it during the WGA strike). Speaking of the Ice Princess, does anyone know how it was supposed to have turned out? Because, as we all know, the original story had nothing at all to do with weather machines.

B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
I take issue with the fact that CAPITOL's biggest problem was its' writing. The truth is, CAPITOL had a very good HW, for once, with Henry Slesar. But either CBS or John Conboy (or both) was impatient with the fact that CAPITOL's numbers weren't inching up fast enough for their liking, so they dumped Slesar, and replaced him with the abysmal Jimmy Lipton. The rest, as they say, is history. Trust me, if they had exercised a bit more faith and patience, Slesar might've been able to turn CAPITOL into a hit.
