  1. The team of Paul Rauch, Carolyn Culliton and Millee Taggart were really onto something at GL. It wasn't anywhere near as wonderful as the Nancy Curlee era, or even the early part of James Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten's run, but it was the most consistently entertaining that the show had been in some time.
  2. And just imagine the hilarity that would ensue as "Dee's good buddy," actor Wayne Northrop -- "y'know, the guy that played the limo driver on 'Dynasty'?" -- is cast to play "Roman," and he follows the real Roman around Salem, learning all he can about the guy? Of course, John wouldn't be able to stand who gets cast to play him, because he still remembered when he played the dad on that "godawful sitcom" with Sandy Duncan "and that Bateman kid." ("Do you HEAR the way he talks!? Tell me, Doc, do I sound like that when I talk?")
  3. How desperate was THE LOVE BOAT to reverse its' falling ratings? THIS desperate! And I guess it wouldn't have been the '80's without the appearance of at least one Landers sisters. (Although, having both appear on the same episode might have been way too much of an already bad thing.)
  4. I got it, too! Eric Forrester is not the real Eric Forrester. He's an impostor who stole the real Eric's identity. Therefore, none of the Forresters are actual Forresters. This sounds like something on "Wizards and Warriors."
  5. I seriously would have dismissed the whole UFO thing as Fallon's brain tumor-induced hallucination. Always remember what Dionne (and Luther!) told you, @j swift: it's never too late for love.
  6. Lord, who wasn't in a relationship with Tori, lol?
  7. Exactly. PAPER DOLLS was too unfocused. Plus, I don't know whether it would have worked better as a straight-ahead drama series with SOME soapy elements. Diana Gould (another KL alum) created BERRENGER'S; but, yes, Lynn Marie Latham and Bernard Lechowick worked on the show, too. And even David Jacobs, I think, said that BERRENGER'S had too many characters and not enough time to let the audience get to know them before dropping them into major, ongoing storylines. BE's major problem, I think, was that too many roles had to be recast for the series, and that the replacements, good as they might have been, paled in comparison to the original actors. Plus, I think the milieu (the perfume industry) might have been too limiting for the series. Not enough high stakes.
  8. I really have to wonder about anyone who would enjoy cherry chocolates. Those things are so sickly sweet to me, lol. Forget the podcasts. Ladies and gentlemen, I present: "Marlena: the Miniseries." (And, if Ron Carlivati were writing, it would star former "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" actor Deidre Hall. Which, yes, would mean Dee would be playing herself, lol.)
  9. IMO, 10/9c was the ideal time slot for a network primetime soap. Dinner had been made and eaten, the kids had been put to bed, your next day had been mapped out, and now you were settling down before the evening news (and Carson). You could devote all your energy - or, as much energy as you can muster at that point - to watching a good, involving show. Of course, I also think some nights worked better for the primetime soaps than others. Thursdays and Fridays? Good. Mondays? Also good. Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays? Eh. I think most of those shows - certainly, BE, THE MONROES and PAPER DOLLS - would have flopped in any time slot. (Same goes for the 10pm shows that you've mentioned.). Those shows had problems that went beyond bad time slots.
  10. No, I want a soap that doesn't insult the hell out of its' viewers' intelligence back.
  11. Again, I don't care. This should be Nancy's story, not Craig's. His story is done.
  12. Or...? He could have produced a true crime podcast series on the Salem Strangler.
  13. It's like that comment that Dixie Carter's Julia once made on "Designing Women": all the girls back then were being named Tiffany and Heather, and she wondered how it would sound when they were elderly. "Of course," she said, "by then, all the girls will be named Beulah, Maude and Ethel."
  14. Seriously, why must Corday insist on keeping drippy, dreary MR when CM has proven herself as Jennifer? (Have I mentioned that Cady won the Emmy for playing Jennifer...and Melissa didn't?)
  15. So, that's what Craig is doing now (that he's gay)? He's just gonna go around Salem, feeling up all the men? I still wish this was Nancy's story, not Craig's. I don't give a flip about Craig coming out of the closet, or which repugnant s.o.b. he's hooked up with now, but I do about how Nancy copes with the dissolution of a marriage she had had her heart and soul invested in.
  16. You know, @carolineg, talking about Marlena's old radio show(s) has me thinking Johnny should be helping his grandma right now produce a podcast series on mental health issues, not getting possessed by the devil and running around town with his clothes off. But, I guess that isn't exciting enough for the suits at Corday/NBC/Sony. Also, seeing performances like Liz's makes me sad that music isn't the integral part to DAYS that it once was. I think that (the use of music) what was helped separate DAYS from the other shows.
  17. I don't blame @DRW50 either. It was a terrible way to bring up what is, for many, a painful topic. It was one thing to reveal that Ben had been molested, but to use that to explain or justify killing others was nothing short of stomach-churning. It had to have been one of GL's lowest points ever. Agree.
  18. Perhaps. Of course, I wasn't a big MP fan, so it wouldn't have made much difference to me, lol.
  19. I remember when Marlena re-started her radio show - although, I admit, I wasn't watching DAYS much at that point. But I remember that, and how it seemed like they dropped it almost as soon as it began, and thinking that maybe they had a much bigger story planned but changed their minds right away. You know, I don't even CARE how ridic it is that Liz is performing at a health club opening? I'm just always happy to see Gloria Loring perform!
  20. Sorry, but I couldn't think of any other way to put it, lol.
