I'm surprised Kit didn't return with his partner wanting Lucy to be a surrogate in the late 80's. Dynasty obviously ripped off his character with Steven Carrington. Mark Wheeler (Kit) seemed to have an odd career. His IMDB credits are spotty He did a lot of work for Ron Howard dating back to the late 70's. I found some info on him about 10 years ago that he taught acting to college students. He had head full of awesome 70's hair that would rival one of the Cassidy brothers.

I guess Geoffrey Scott (Mark) was supposed to be Dynasty's competition to Tom Selleck. The 70's and 80's were the eras of the mustache. I noticed it's now making a comeback with the younger generation.

Teri Austin was in a relationship with Ted Shackelford at the time. I often wonder if the relationship had fizzled by the time Jill went crazy, and it was used as a way to write Teri out of KL?

Thanks for the info on Bill's death. I had a feeling they may have left it open but wasn't sure. Bill, Missy, and Ricky should have returned to the show in the 80's.

I could see them doing a Rachel/Mac/Missy triangle. Missy now a mature woman would probably be going by her full name of Melissa at that point. I read Bill died in a boating accident in 1970. They could have written that his body was never found so they assumed he was dead. He could have washed up on some island and been there for 15 years with amnesia. He shows up in Missy's life. It would have been nice to get Joe Gallison back as Bill ,but a good re-cast would have worked. John Considine could have played Bill instead of Reginald. Missy's son Ricky would now be grown and could come on as part of the young set. Too bad Missy couldn't have been pregnant at the time of Bill's death. They could have had another son " Palmer Matthews". to help beef up the Matthews family. Ricky could have been the rebellious one and Palmer the Mr. Do Right that Ricky was jealous of.

Rachel & Missy were both at Walter & Lenore's wedding in that grainy 1968 episode that was posted several years ago but I don't think they spoke to each other. Both being considered from the wrong side of the tracks you would think they would have written them as knowing each other. Carol Roux with her issues obviously would have not returned to the role in the 80's. I wonder what actress would be considered as a re-cast Missy? Jaime Lyn Bauer? or maybe Louise Sorel? Denise Alexander may have been better cast as Missy than Mary. Maybe they could have gotten Joe Gallison to return as a back from the dead Bill.

I remember Stuart Pankin mainly from the HBO skit comedy series " Not Necessarily the News" during the 80's. He was also a frequent guest on game shows during that era.

Re: The 1997 reunion movie Back to the Cul-De-Sac. It was great seeing what the characters were up to 4 years later after the series end, but it was a bit of a letdown plot wise. As Chris B stated, it was a relief that Paige only had a cameo at the beginning. They felt the need to bring back Kate and have her drop the bomb that Gary had gotten her pregnant and they have a 4-year-old daughter together. She is also sleeping with Brian. Val writing the screenplay with the alcoholic screenwriter who winds up dead was contrived. Abby owing the IRS in back taxes was pretty funny. They freeze her assets, and she has to go back to work for Gary and assisting Karen. Of course, Karen & Mack were screaming over Meg again and the secret about Greg being her father. Mack also having a midlife crisis during their 15-year anniversary was annoying. Ann just kind of hung around Greg's place making bitchy comments. Of course, Greg was in the thick of things with everyone pretty much pissed off at him for one reason or another. Diana, Michael, and Ginger come to Mack & Karens anniversary at Val and Gary's house. The Ewing home has miraculously grown in square footage in 4 years since viewers last saw it. The foyer is larger with a space for a grandfather clock and the stairs are pushed back about 6ft from the door, the floors are all on the same level instead of that weird step down, and the ceilings look about 10 to 12 ft tall. They now have the space to host a huge dinner party complete with catering staff....LOL

I have been watching seasons 12-14 over the past several days. Some observations. Gary & Tidal Energy......When he loses the ranch due this mess, it would have been an interesting plot twist if J.R. had been behind it and takes possession of the ranch. It could have opened up a final showdown with Gary/Val/J.R.. The Bobby back from the dead ruined any crossovers. Thanks Patrick Duffy with your stupid screw up. Too Much Paige......and the guy of the week she's sleeping with. The Mary Robeson Plot....re-written backstory of Laura's mother not being dead. I'm still in the middle of re-watching this unfold. Kevin Dobson and Michelle Lee loved chewing scenery with the Meg crap. They would continue with the Meg drama in "Back to the Cul-de-sac" (1997) Gary/Kate.......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Karen The Vigilante..........Karen goes ape crap and takes off in her Lincoln Town Car after being shot with a paint gun which results in the car crash of the teen boys (with Jason in the car). Karen was off the rails by the point. Val's Brain Virus.........the writers obviously hated Joan Van Ark by this time and made her look like an idiot every chance they got.

Jack Lord was from Brooklyn, so I figured he still at roots there and could pop in as Gerald. Jack Klugman did enter my mind as well.......LOL

I'm surprised John Aniston wasn't brought on as a re-cast Gerald before he headed to Days. Here's a totally random one, Jack Lord from the original Hawaii Five-0 series. The only problem with that is I can't really picture sophisticated Lord being married to gruff Ford's Ada. Lord & Ford hey that sounds like a business partnership...LOL

I ran across this ITV series from the 1970's on youtube. It has kind of a soap feel to it. I was tempted to post it in the foreign soaps thread, but it is considered a courtroom drama. I will post one segment as an example. There are other episodes on the uploaders page.

In the first season of Knots Gary was very protective, supportive, and loving to Val. In season 2 he pretty much couldn't stand the sight of her and even when she tried to support him in his screw ups, he resented her even more. He also started the cheating after only being remarried for about a year. When Val had cancer, Gary preferred she die than to have to deal with her having to get a colostomy. He also trashed their house throwing a hissy fit like a 5-year-old. In season 14 when he thought she was dead he immediately hit the sheets with Kate. Gary obviously never used condoms so I'm surprised Val didn't get STD's

Robert Colbert left Y&R around 1983-84. He played heavies earlier in his career, maybe he would have worked as Gerald Davis. SFT ended in 1986 Larry Haines would be available.

I like Lezlie Dalton as Elizabeth, but I can see how she can grate on other people's nerves. She has a listless quality about her like she is channeling Katharine Hepburn with her breathless line deliveries and acting ticks. That's a great thing about being a soap viewer. We all have our favorites characters and actors that makes interesting and diverse conversations.

What actor would have been a good re-cast for Gerald Davis? Maybe Ed Nelson after Capitol ?

I recently have been doing a OLTL history dive. Why the heck did they kill off Meredith Lord? I read Lynn Benesch didn't renew her contract, but they could have recast. Maybe Jacqueline Courtney could have been recast Meredith instead of playing Pat. I think that was a major mistake as the character could have driven story for decades. Did she die in the garage at Llanfair? They also killed Victor off 3 years later. Then it became all these convoluted stories of Vicki having long lost siblings and then making Victor the ultimate monster (The DID) storyline. Erika Slezak hated that storyline. She joked that Ernest Graves who originated the role would be rolling over in his grave if he knew what they had done to that character.

I just realized I goofed in my post. Wizard of Odds aired 1973-1974 instead of 74-75. Actor Don DeFore makes an appearance in this as a guest concerning the Hazel quiz. He is asked about the child actor who played his son Bobby Buntrock. DeFore mentions he is engaged to be married. Unfortunately, by the time the episode was taped, Buntrock had been deceased over a month from a car accident. DeFore obviously didn't know. Whitney Bake who played his mother didn't know he had been killed till decades later.
