  1. Is it fair to assume both seasons filmed by Sept? Might as well be 2 years ahead! Unless a soap is filmed 4-6 weeks in advance, it doesn't really matter because once you hit 2 months out, any adjustments made will be too late. Might as well film it all. I'm really glad the show was renewed. I binged Sept-Feb during Jan/Feb. I'll be another big binge in a few weeks. Binging really helps overcome the inconsistent pacing. Plus for NBC, the ads they include are 'fresh,' so streaming does make a difference.
  2. Seriously. I think that would be great. The audience wouldn't care at all. Think about how many doppelgangers/twins has Y&R had over the years - Kay, John, Cassie, Phyllis, Lauren, Cane, Patty - that's 7 just off the top of my head. Y&R has probably as many doubles as DAYS has had returns from the dead.
  3. I just binged the enter season to date during the past month. MM definitely benefited from better writing and a new approach. I do believe that Abby is in an alter. What would've been great: if Gwen is actually protecting Abby, who showed up to the room and got into an altercation with Dr. Laura and accidentally pushed her. So Chanel drives from Miami to see her mom, but wasn't there for christening. Did they establish that Paulina was actually moving to Salem permanently? I just got that she wanted to invest there. It was strange for Paulina to direct Chanel to 'pound the pavement' to find a job there - as if knocking on doors, help wanted signs have been relevant since the 1990s. And why didn't Chanel question Paulina about staying in 'Springfield' permanently? Odd set-up, but both characters have potential. It's too bad that Victor can't have scenes with Ciara. I always liked their scenes, but it's understandable. Clare as a doe-eyed ingenue just doesn't work - this is combo of writing and actor. Please make Ben Marlena's kid. Seriously. If Cin can have a psychic connection, then the 'unspoken' mom-son bond that caused Dr. Marlena Evans to throw all logic out the window regarding Ben would be somewhat plausible.
  4. Ratings/streaming numbers are all that matters. So if RH came back as Todd for, say, a two-week test period, do you think viewers would be so repulsed that the ratings would show a sharp drop? It's possible that the 2-3MM (1%) or so people who still consistently watch GH actually like characters like Sonny/Jason/Nina, etc. v the 300MM+ (99%) who don't watch. It's just a theory.
  5. I suppose Susan will be involved in EJ's - that would be one way of keeping SH on. Kristen definitely needs a rest. And there's really going to be a debate about Sami choosing nuEJ v Lucas? Seriously. I imagine that will be settled in the first episode. No way Ron doesn't exploit his body from the start. As far as AS staying on, I wonder how much is tied to renewal and whatever new budget constraints are imposed. I'm just glad she's on at all. It's hard to believe DAYS has like 20 episodes left to film unless NBC added more to last year's renewal order. I'm assuming the Olympics delay has already been covered with the episodes that aired early/blackout inserts in Oct. Plus two episodes because hockey didn't air.
  6. They should've cast PD as Sally1 - she could've pulled it off.
  7. Happy Anniversary, Edge!
  8. Happy Anniversary! Now why doesn't P&G monetize that library on a streaming service....
  9. I'd argue Capitol shouldn't never kicked SFT. When you look at SFT's ratings at the time of cancellation, it's downright shocking. The only thing B&B has excelled at: production. Their use of exterior location remotes, including LA and Studio City, is unmatched in this century. Otherwise, B&B rarely has stories worth watching - and this is from someone who has tuned in and out many times. The show should be better and history has shown upcoming stories like the above are not only destined for disappointment, but also will never be spoken of within 3 - 5 episodes after conclusion.
  10. Poor Vinny or some other rando character that will show up out of the blue for 4 episodes and then be off'd. No soap has ever faceplanted at crime-related stories more consistently than B&B. It's absolutely shocking how bad they are at it - and not in the campy, fun way. Just terrible television.
  11. Y&R: John, Dina, Colleen, Diane, Cassandra and Hillary. We know Dru ain't dead. DAYS: Renee NEVER being revived always puzzled me. The character and actress seemed very popular. ATWT: Rose. Yeah, OTT at times, but without Lily's baggage, it allowed MB to take chances. ATWT worst offenses were recasting Connor and Molly. ATWT seemed to be pretty good about not killing off legacy characters. B&B: Macy.
  12. Preach it! Paul/Lauren were also favorites so I was shocked that I totally dug the Paul/Cassandra. Pricket never did it for me. And, gosh, if Mary Williams was such a great character - with her sanctimonious attitude - but the one thing I liked is that they never moved her uptown. It was refreshing to have that contrast from all the rich folks. Wasn't Mary a big fan of Isabella because she also spent a lot of time in church? I don't really remember much from that era.
  13. It's funny you should frame it that way - I remember going back home and not only my parents, but my brother were totally into the Cassandra story. NA was not only stunning, but also a solid actor. Was there a specific reason why she was axed? The weird Brad/Paul rivalry flopped instantly. I'll admit I was a big Paul/Cassandra stan.
  14. Y&R - they have a rich catalog of choices even if you only go back to 1990 (30 years!). And has been mentioned so many of the key players then are still on now. It makes viewing them interesting even for 'newer' viewers. B&B - I don't have an issue with MC - especially since 2 are ones that haven't been seen before. Also, B&B locations shoots are prime time quality. Unlike Y&R, a lot of the major B&B actors started 'late' HT (2007), JMW (2008), DD (2009), SC (2010), DB/TK/RS (2013). After that it's JG (2006), who's rarely on, and then KKL/JMcC (1987) - so you have 20 years of shows with only 2 current actors. Hunter Tylo/Jacob Young are still familiar with audiences, but their characters are absent from current canvas. I can see why they'd be reluctant to air anything pre-2007 and probably pre-2010.
  15. You're correct about YR's approach to 'psycho' women back then (Veronica, Mari Jo), they didn't just snap randomly - there was a lot of build up. What I meant by quota is that every two years or so, another woman went over the edge for good and usually in a big way: Lisa (1989), Sheila (1993), Mari Jo (1996), Veronica (1998), Tricia (2001). I seem to recall Leanna was destined to have the same fate, but something switched radically. I'm definitely missing stuff and maybe others. But it was a clear pattern. I guess I was remembering that I really liked Tricia, how she evolved and was more sad to see her go. I just reread her bio and it all came flooding back to me. She was involved in some really good stuff. I disliked the Victor/Tricia stuff ('ick'), but was surprised when she made the false allegations. To be fair, he was conning her.
  16. CBS may keep Y&R (R)/B&B (R) when new episodes run out, instead of TPiR/LMAD (R) because advertising is really drying up across the board. Therefore, ratings won't matter as much. I noticed the last two episodes of episodes of B&B on CAA only had CBS/Viacom-related promos (CAA, Showtime, ET, etc) - zero product advertisements. For those who watch through TV/DVR, have you noticed a drop in product advertising? I always like Sabryn Genet, but Y&R had to fill it's annual 'psycho' woman quota. It's too bad. I like that they're pulling episodes from different eras. I certainly would not have expected this one.
  17. @DramatistDreamer Yes, I was referring to CAA. It seems like that would be the paid platform that would be best for Y&R. It's no different than Hulu or Netflix - they charge a monthly fee. Granted it's smaller, but it is relevant for Y&R seeker because Y&R and CBS are associated closely together. Of all times to push older soap fans (clearly the group that's most streaming apprehensive), this would be it. And Sony has proven to be quite savvy with streaming DAYS. Y&R should be easy for them. Honestly, just get Y&R and B&B, both of which have complete libraries somewhere. Speaking of P&G, a few months ago, I did a calculation and P&G likely has the largest single library of content than any other 'studio.' Just ATWT/GL have at least 16,000 combined episodes (from 1978). Throw in AW, SFT, EON, Texas. That's a lot of money just being squandered. I've never understood the reluctance to distribute those shows on a widespread basis.
  18. Exactly the issue. However, they could license them to CAA since Y&R is established there. I'm sure some of the continued issues with 'classic' soap episodes (meaning pre-2000) has to do with music rights as well. Considering they are talking about August start for sports, except for DAYS, soaps are going to vanish - the networks aren't going to air soap repeats forever. ABC will add an hour of news and CBS will slot game shows.
  19. I'll give CBS a lot of slack here. In fact, I'd rather have them air any Y&R(R)/B&B(R) rather than completely dropping them for TPIR(R)/LMAD (R). I'm choosing not to stream either of the airings today, but I'm sure they'll be ones that will be worth watching. If you figure production resumes July 1 - it'll be mid- or late-July before new ones start to air. B&B will clearly crank them out fast so they get out first. I wonder if B&B ended up banking extra episodes because of the 12+ Impeachment pre-emptions or if they simply slowed down production? At least ABC has given exact info on GH, CBS has been silent about inventory.
  20. Considering they are talking June or July now before lockdown ends, Y&R could have 6-8 weeks of repeats - so 30 or 40 episodes, unless CBS decides to slots double TPIR (R) since I think TPIR does quite well in repeats.
  21. @All My Shadows Keeping in-tact really depends on the era and context of the episode. Y&R had some amazing eras where pretty much everything was quite watchable. So I do agree there's probably some key classic episodes that would hold up. However, there's also A stories peaks that probably needed at least 2-3 episodes to really - that's where a condensed version of the big story would be interesting to watch. I have a feeling we're going to be seeing 100% repeats sooner, so maybe they can do a couple of back-to-back. But I believe we all agree Classic Y&R towers over anything produced today - from stories, dialogue, acting, production, etc.
  22. @Errol I could see this: 10 AM TPIR (R) 11 AM Y&R (30 min) M-Th equivalent of 2 episodes a week. Friday 30 min (R) 11:30 CBS News Special Report Noon Local News 12:30 B&B 1:00 The Talk 2:00 LMAD (R)
  23. @Errol @KMan101 Thanks for the background! CBS should definitely consider heavily editing 'classic' episodes of Y&R - the unfortunate nature of a regular soap episode is that it contains B&C stories that often were at an uninteresting stage and/or featuring long-forgotten characters when compared with the 'A' story, which is the reason it was selected for re-airing. It sounds like ABC recognized that and came up with a solution that resonated with the audience. Another option for Y&R (and GH) would be to split the remaining new episodes into 30-minutes, but that's highly unlikely. The network could fill the other 30-minutes with news.
  24. Didn't ABC do something called "Daytime to Remember" after they cancelled maybe "Loving/The City?' I think they rotated classic episodes of the Big Three shows. Maybe I'm dreaming, but I couldn't sworn someone mentioned it after AMC/OLTL axed and that it did well in ratings. OC, that would've been different era and pre-YouTube.
  25. Agreed. If they have 20 left (4 weeks), they can extend to almost 7 weeks. Do we know if B&B also is airing a classic episode this Friday?
