Banner-flying antics: Rabid fans of Y&R's Lily&Cane pairing (Christel Khalil and Daniel Goddard). Those fans paid lots of money to have banners flown from airplanes over the studio, long story. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Fans did what fans do, I get that -- this isn't about them. I can't critique fans of pairings for simply being fans. The issue for me was that DG encouraged the banners and fan adulation. It's hard to describe accurately. It wasn't what it said, but how he said it. He comes off as smarmy/unctuous -- what I mean is... seemingly outwardly oh so gracious and charming, but in a way that felt more egotistical underneath, almost creepy. He wanted attention. It's one thing to be politely grateful at unusual shows of fan attention. It's a whole other thing to be intentionally stoking that attention. And then when CK had moved on, the show wanted to pair DG with Beth Maitland, and he actively sabotaged that.

Thank you (I think?) for posting the articles. They're horrifying and I feel quite ill. What I mean is, I appreciate you posting the articles, from a historical perspective. The history of such societal attitudes makes me quite ill. And egads how Michael Logan wrote it. I've seen recently glorification of a certain rape-pairing from another television program, from certain fans, on social media. I don't want to go off-topic with the other show on this OLTL thread, so I won't give details. Just sayin' some of that attitude is sadly still out there. Here's hoping that all shows daytime/primetime/films will stop with that trope.

Christel Khalil was so tired of that pairing. Glad she has a business storylines and new male actors to interact with on Y&R. (I don't actually like the Y&R business stories, but I do like that Lily gets to have a life of her own).

It also aligns more closely to substance use disorders than to other psychiatric conditions. adding onto that now: I remember reading about this back in 2013 when the DSM-5 was first published. They talked back then about how compulsive gambling can have a physiological affect on part of the brain similar to how substance abuse disorder can affect the physical brain.

I watched up until the New York news interruption several minutes ago. From what I've seen, the whole Eva/Dana-Leslie scene is very complex and layered. Eva figuring it out. Dana gaslighting Eva. Well-written and well-acted. Hope to watch the rest of the scene on Pplus/CBS later.
