  1. Let's leave Unfaithful alone, a movie and director I shall defend to my dying day.
  2. Hope y'all ready for Alan to do a tight 20 minutes on Independence Day!
  3. It is a shame, as it seems like an innocent mistake on his part. But typical of Y&R to pinch a penny and cut a corner in pursuit of the most mediocre coaster of a soap opera possible.
  4. Burgi probably costs more.
  5. In fairness, Jamey's already gotten a show on OWN. He doesn't need daytime to continue to thrive.
  6. Robert is very talented and still sexy as hell, but he'll be wasted here. I think he's actually been doing a lot of theater and TV.
  7. I'm not depressed, I'm over it. I think this genre needs to survive and thrive and be revitalized, but it is not going to do it in this condition, marking time and space on network TV alone, catering largely to a shrinking red audience. Y&R is a shell of itself. OLTL didn't go out perfect but it went out strong and vital and full of energy, and it (along with AMC) was revived within a year in a way that made it modular and fresh for a new paradigm. I can promise you I would not be watching it today if it were like Y&R; I turned it off many times. The fact that the revivals didn't survive because of poor management doesn't change the fact that those shows were the wave of the future. But daytime soaps as they are now don't want a future. They want to mark time. Until that changes, I'm not interested. And saying these shows shouldn't shake things up because it might offend more old women in Florida or wherever and lose a few more eyes isn't offering a solution, it's just asking for more of the same.
  8. Who cares? It's not like these shows are worth keeping on in their current state.
  9. It would amuse me if Locher really did cut the feed if Sarah started in on Moonves. But I doubt he'll let her get to that.
  10. He was on tour. It sounds like it was just a heart attack.
  11. It sounds like it's not a full reboot, since Whoopi will be reprising her role as HW Rose Schwartz. That's nice to hear and actually makes me interested.
  12. Richard Burgi is amazingly talented, has done a ton of primetime and film and it astounds me how two(?) modern soaps have gotten ahold of him but both squandered him.
  13. Jesus, what a week.
  14. Alan Locher is sure to be eager to discuss Sarah's blackballing by ATWT's parent network CBS. Only a deeply irrational person or a clueless and vapid functionary would seek to preserve the honor of a very publicly scandal-ridden host company for a soap opera that has been off the air and defunct for over ten years!
  15. It is, yes. But the social change is ready, and the shows would find a more blended audience with what they lost on new platforms like streaming. The networks and shows don't care because they don't care about evolving the genre or their shows; they just want to keep them onscreen marking time for as long as possible. Y&R especially is coasting on past acclaim, it's a dead cell. The only show vaguely attempting to do more for the future is DAYS, and they're not exactly delivering great quality.
  16. That's a really unique idea. I'm curious why the women are the ideal counterbalance though.
  17. Gay story and Black story on soaps is still few and far between today, because outside of DAYS they don't cater to the more coastal online contingent much; they cater to red state demographics.
  18. They would never have executed Luke and Laura the same way today. Going for the rape twist at all and the way they bumbled around it with romantic foibles, jealousy, a lot of discussion among the two of them, etc. for over a year afterwards would never have happened. You also couldn't get away with E.J. raping Sami at gunpoint in the passenger seat of a car on the side of a road and then having them become a supercouple today, and that was maybe 15 years ago.
  19. What was the point of him marrying Victoria? What is the story?
