I think Ned and Olivia do fine as a cornerstone of the show on recurring - they appear plenty, or did until this year but that's a recent lull. I think Rena needs a contract unless she doesn't want one. Lois being much more loving and indulgent re: Tracy and the Qs has also shone through in this run, and is a nice change. I don't think Olivia was always a caricature, but she certainly has been broader since FV/RC came in. That was fine with me because I think Lisa sells it all, can often be fun to watch and is very sweet with Wally, but I don't need more from either of them at this point. Still, Olivia and Lois' backstory are almost totally identical and they are best friends from Bensonhurst so I would like to see them discuss the Ned issue more openly, something that has barely been done since RC first put them together. I don't think Sasha's career change is problematic - there are lots of pro chefs who transitioned from other 'bigger' careers. I think keeping Sasha around is problematic.

The link worked fine both times. Jordan just has never worked as a character for me. Vinessa Antoine was very talented but the character has always been merely functional, caught between loyalties and entirely plot-motivated. There's no there there and never has been. The last recast was bad and Tanisha Harper can't act at all. I'd dump her with along so many others (including T.J. and Molly) and find better Black characters to invest in. I also think/hope the surrogacy story is not long for this world. I am also pretty sure Trina and T.J. are related, or at least treat each other like close cousins and have for years. I have my doubts Drew will squire around both Nina and Willow - he has always had chemistry with KMM (just as she has with Steve), but I thought that scene with them was largely Drew doing just an unselfish thing for Nina and surprising himself, jut as he did the other day in the office scenes. I guess we'll see. I do think she is working hard.

That's very true. I was thinking how astute that line was, because it's what has sold Jason to women despite his being a professional killer for years. His 'purity' which too often suggests something unattainable for most of us. Unlike Sonny I don't think Jason is a predator to women - I think he can go without women or sex - but he is what he has allowed himself to be made into, what he has embraced and he has never seen much reason to stop, even after having children. His latest attempt to go legit with his piece of the coffee business may or may not be a feint; it did surprise me. But it won't last.

I think so too, but I really don't need Jordan around period; she's a dead character. I do suspect that in the short term she may be in the mix a bit to seem like the respectable option in his life vs. Drew's messy, dysfunctional fascination with Nina, but I think Drew and Nina is where it's going. I also think they have begun to build Nina up to not needing a man again (maybe for the first time in her life).

They're pretty much back to the classic setup these days IMO - Wanda and Vision back in the fold, Carol leading, etc. But I haven't read much of the MacKay run. Bendis had begun moving them back there at the end of his run with one of his books set entirely in the old mansion and a lot of domestic stuff with that group, but he was running out of steam at that point in his tenure. I think Hickman's run was excellent and had a lot of friendships and camaraderie, but it was also very focused on epic cosmic stakes vs. the classical soap opera.

I actually do think Lesli Kay did a good job as a recast tbh. But it was clear they had little or nothing for her to do, even if she at least was engaged with music. The Alcazar pairing was so bizarre and clearly designed to marginalize him after he flew too close to the sun with Carly. I think they were definitely teasing it late last year with Sonny and Lois. There were too many heartfelt scenes with them as she stuck her nose into his love life, and she was too involved with it and even tussling with Nina who she does not know. I don't see a need to do anything about Olivia tbh. She's Ned's wife, she's married to him, she's one of several Q matriarchs. She fills a fun supporting role and she's definitely not going to steal Lois' shine any time soon lol. Just leave her where she is (and maybe eventually let her sleep with Scorpio).

I agree. I just think immediately slapping him onto the nearest woman would be too much of an example of what FV loves to do, which is throw recurring or dayplayers at major characters to keep costs low. I'd rather see someone hired for Lois, or see this character built up more for more natural reasons. She was, and it's almost never been talked about on the show except for very early when RC put them together. I'm not sure even Lois/Ned/Olivia have discussed it, which is nuts. But I wouldn't break them up, because Wally and Rena are never going to consent to a reunion lol. Lisa is good with Wally. I'd just like to see it addressed onscreen. I do think Miller's Jason/Drew was often quite different from Steve's though. Starting with the tender and close relationships with his family, which the show later tried to attach to Steve.

More OLTL people? I don't think it's what GH fans are craving after three (four if you count Caleb) separate roles for two OLTL stars, among many, many other OLTL visitors lol. You and me both, IIRC! I kind of believe they were, though I also think a Sonny/Ava ONS was going to happen in some way as drama for Sonny and Nina. I seriously doubt scheming Ava was their idea though.

I'm not even sure why they ended Martin and Lucy, unless D&C were trying yet another horrific round of elderly Scott and Lucy (since they slept together yet again for no reason). Martin was a decent enough partner for her in a pinch, even if I don't think she ever found out about Blair, Deception, etc. I will never give up on Kevin and Lucy or more for her character, but Martin was fine and felt reasonably organic, unlike most of these cheap convenience couples I mentioned (like Robert and Diane). (I also think Blair/Melador would make a solid recurring villain for Lucy, Maxie and Deception to bounce off of from time to time, but the audience would stone them for that and rightly so.)- GH: April 2024 Discussion Thread
I still think they fumbled the bag massively with both ME and Richard Burgi in 2015-16. Burgi, a noted, sexy primetime star, came on as a scheming Paul Hornsby - a character with a very grey history both on the show and with Tracy - and had real chemistry with Jane. Instead he was a serial killer packed away so Burgi could go fail at Y&R, which I don't blame him for. Same with ME's Finn. When Easton first returned as his (sigh) third character, against all odds Finn was quirky, idiosyncratic and actually different from Easton's usual schtick. Furthermore, he had intense chemistry with Jane and was played with her regularly as a friend and doctor. They should've gone for it. Instead FV was determined to find a sexy new supercouple for ME and pushed for Easton/Budig, then Easton/Finola and on and on and here we are.- GH: April 2024 Discussion Thread
No. They need to stop foisting recurring and bit players off on important characters. I like Martin in small doses but it would just be another excuse for Frank to put two ABC stars together and expect everyone to fangurl out. This is a larger longtime issue with this regime: I don't give a fúck about Yuri who is just the successor to Milo for FV in terms of hot random guys they keep giving jobs and then pretend are suddenly fan favorites. And the new cop instructor is hot but do I consider using him the same as actually finding out a story and character tailored to Lois and (gasp) hiring someone new? No. It's just Frank rifling through the bin of random characters, slapping them together and calling it a pairing or story. I don't care. This started with Laura and Kevin, BTW - Genie insisted on a new man, so Frank just tossed Jon Lindstrom her way because he's on recurring, cheap and well-liked. Now here we are. Hire new people, test for chemistry and stop cheaping out. No, I don't care if it's an ex-soap star. I am not going to get excited seeing "Lois and Tad" together.- GH: April 2024 Discussion Thread

Yeah, I think the reality is that they don't know what to do with Sasha and are playing the string with some characters out. I would just write her out immediately, but that's me. And I don't think they're going to reduce Trina to a nanny (she appears to be keeping the job with Ava, and it's inevitable she'll go back to school) but I do like them making the connection with Ace. I remember people howling about her not spending enough time with him, Laura, etc. after the first several weeks following Spencer's death. It's six of one and half a dozen of another. But really, fanbases aside I don't pay much attention to Soap Twitter period except for the recent hubbub with the creative turnover. What's clear at a glance is there's been a vacuum since DC's heyday (and Jamey's apparent departure - he was always a histrionic, dominant and OTT personality) of people in that sphere all trying to be tastemakers and sound very influential and important on there, and the truth is I have no idea who almost any of them are and I don't care. They all seem really quick to attach themselves to very mediocre couples, actors and stories in the last decade - online used to be a bit better than that IMO - but I guess that's to be expected if your livelihood or sense of self depends on a genre that's been in the doghouse for years (hopefully not for too much longer). Everybody seems to be the one to make a grand pronouncement about The State of GH a month into the writing change, and that's not realistic at this point IMO. I do think it's much improved; I do think it needs to cut and change faster. The question is if they have freedom to do that. And no, I don't think Chris Van Etten is puppetmastering the show from BTS lol. But knowing FV it wouldn't shock me if he tried to keep a pet writer in there for some machinations, because I absolutely do not believe PM was his choice. Anyway we'll see soon enough.- GH: April 2024 Discussion Thread
