  1. I’ve noticed a number of people talking about how the Democrats needed to do better in this and that and whatever. But speaking as someone outside of the US looking in, their campaign was exactly the campaign that would make me vote for them. And judging by the popular vote figures thus far, the majority of the US population thought that too.

The only reason that it is such a sh*tshow is because of the Electoral College. It outlived its usefulness many years ago, and unfortunately it means that election campaigns are unnecessarily skewed to a handful of swing states, when really it should be about the whole nation.

But also, I wanted to say this: the fact that so many people still voted for Trump despite (or perhaps because of) the wreckage he has caused the last 4 years indicates to me that America is a very very broken country, probably permanently so. And I don’t think even the best Democratic campaign can start to fix that without a lot of pushback from vested interests at the very least.

But yes - America is severely broken.

STEPHANIE ARRIVES. Bob hires her as a new PR person in his fight against the envionmental group Chris is supporting to stop that plant being put in the wildlife refuge. Stephanie sets up a TV debate between Anderson and the environmentalists almost immediately. Mary, in particular, is suspicious of the similarity between Stephanie and Brooke. But Bob slips first, and accidentally calls Stephanie "Brooke". Stephanie is, herself, having flashbacks to the car accident. Seems they weren't working too hard to hide the fact Stephanie and Brooke were one in the same.

For a moment, I had to remind myself this was DAYS and not some weird plot in B&B 🤣

That's absolutely fascinating to see even if doesn't work at all for me. The inner dialogue and Eure's playing of it just doesn't feel right, except the bit of sarcasm about his job.

My sister is missing and might be dead? Ah, life.

(Jennifer is missing because Laura put her on the bus alone. Laura had asked Donna to babysit, then took off with Jennifer and told Donna not to answer the phone until she returned. Laura stayed out all day.)

Looks like this is from June 19, 1979 (per Jason's daily summaries)

    "3443...6/19/79: (summary via Mitch)
Cast: Tom, Alice, Mickey, Maggie, Mike, Don, Marlena, Margo, Jordan, Donna, Laura (FBO).
Sets: Mickey’s Office, Marlena’s Office, Horton Living Room & Front Door, Mickey & Maggie’s Kitchen, Mike’s Kitchen.

Donna confides in Alice that it was not her fault that Jennifer ran away, but feels to blame.  Don tries to convince Mickey that Laura is out of control.  Marlena remembers Samantha locking her up.  Mike wonders to Mickey if Laura’s problem is hereditary.  Maggie and Alice worry about Jennifer. Jordan tells Marlena he is in charge.  Mike apologizes to Margo on marrying into the Hortons."

I watched that clip on Youtube a few months back, and was captivated by Tracy Bregman playing Donna (knowing that just a few short years later she would begin her iconic role as Lauren Fenmore on Y&R). But at that time, Tracy had only just turned 16, and yet there she was already matching it with the likes of Frances Reid. She was definitely a star in the making.

  5. It does need to be said though that despite the stark numbers, Y&R was the only soap that actually *increased* its figures this week. Yes it is still down 700K from this time last year, but slowly and surely it is still bouncing back to where it was.

We shall see what happens over the next few months...

Aaaaand finally, we get to Don's senatorial campaign, in which the big scandal was going to be Marlena and Don LIVING IN SIN, causing Don to temporarily move out. This becomes mitigated by Don proposing...until Lorraine shows up. Lorraine apparently lived with Don for a month in 1964 until he found out she was turning tricks, and he never heard from her again, but apparently now he has a daughter: Tracey E. Bregman's Donna. And despite being clumsily named after him, he turns out not to even be her father, and it was all a scam to get money out of Don. Except, when it all was exposed, Lorraine skips town and leaves Donna in Salem??? WTF! So now she's Marlena's ward-du-jour.

Woah woah woah... Donna wasn’t even Don’s daughter after all???
